Before: Amy stepping up to take on her most experienced opponent, prompting many critics to wonder whether Brenneman is being moved too quickly. Still, Williams at the crossroads with age becoming as significant factor despite being in terrific shape for every bout. Interesting bout, both women bring something the other can’t handle--its all about the execution. Amy in black sports bra, red adidas terrycloth trunks, brown curls back in loose ponytail, Vanessa in royal blue sports bra, white adidas trunks, hair tight bun.
During R1: Contrast in visages--Williams expressionless, calculating, Amy excited, eyes like saucers as she takes the fight right to Vanessa. Williams stepping back, popping the jab, ducking inside Amy’s big sweeping shots and countering with hard, rising licks to the rib-plates, but Brenneman walking through it, keeps the pressure on despite walking into potshots. Midway through the round-=-Vanessa forced to slug as Amy crowd her and both girls begin bashing head to head, curling fists into the body and mouth--Amy backing the smaller girl up under the withering exchange. Vanessa starting to drift as she fades to the ropes, and as she tries to duck any Amy right hand, catches instead right on her face. WILLIAMS GOES DOWN! A stunned Vanessa Williams on her knees, eyebrows arched in shock, eyes closed and Amy clips her once, clips her TWICE with short right uppercuts to that drowsy face. Williams pitches forward to her face as the ref pushes Brenneman away and chaos reigns. Williams out cold, lying quietly on her face as Brenneman whoops it up, Stands as a disputed KO1, but Amy will take it.
After: Brenneman taking heat for crass in ring celebration, knocking Vanessa out with the foul punching, but getting the ex-champ to her knees honestly enough. William stunned in the aftermath, whining “I was down--I was down” to nobody in particular in the post fight mill. Brenneman issuing good pressure, clearly a different fighter when she comes forward, and she’s feeling her oats, issuing g challenges to Tia, Landry, Theron and Bell, On Cat: “She looks good as long as she can push you around. I respect her immensely, but she’s not as strong as I am, I really think I’m ready for her.”
