(Result:Simguy/Words:Simgrrl) GINNY'S ACADEMY VS FRONT STREET/EMPIRE BOXING STABLE WAR
|
Before: Well, here's another "mis-match" brought to you by the 'brains' behind the Academy. For some reason, "Ms Ginny" insists on throwing 'lambs' to 'lions' in one-sided contests. Stone is 51 years old and has exactly ONE competitive bout in the last seven years. Over the same time period, Jewel is 27-19-1!
Yet somehow, Stone insists she's up to the task. "I'm in the ring every day; either sparring or working on my fighter's technique," she boasts. "I probably do as much, or more, ring work now than I did in my prime. This is a 'teaching opportunity' for me; a chance to show my girls how to put into practice what they're being taught in the gym. I'm as well-prepped for this fight as I was for Hurley back in '06 - and look how well that turned out."
"Yeah," snorted Jewel. "She's doing more hard work now than in her prime...except back then, they didn't wear gloves and everyone wore bloomers in the ring. Look at her record; Stone has NEVER done any serious fights in the FCBA. She was over the hill before the Fed was even founded! Oh we've all heard stories about how, 'back in the day' Stone was hot stuff...but all the silent movie film of her in action were unfortunately lost in the San Francisco earthquake. So, really, where's the proof?"
Age aside, seeing the two face off at the press conference makes one wonder. Stone, "...looks very good for her age" one (near-sighted) newshound observed; his glasses heavily fogged by his heavy panting. Of course, Sharon in a teeny-tiny thong bikini that proclaims confidently 'I may be old but I'm still hot!' (and a top that only just manages to cover the 'naughty bits' of her surgically enhanced breasts) may have had more than a little to do with his reaction!
Stone is in good shape (appearance-wise) but there are serious questions about whether she's in condition to go ten hard with the young puncher. What Stone has in her favor is that she IS taller; naturally heavier and brings a wealth of experience to the ring. Jewel is shorter and now that she's dropped weight to fight at bantam, smaller; but nobody doubts her conditioning; she can go ten rounds and will likely be reeling in the fading older woman when the fight hits the last turn and they come thundering down the backstretch for home.
In her purple bikini, Jewel looks bigger, and a bit softer, than she has for a while. All that high-living at Front Street seems to agree with her! And she's been around; seemingly forever, but she's still just 37, younger than Cam Diaz for example. She joined the FCBA when she was 25 and is being held up as an example to youngsters as a woman who's probably done more with limited talent than almost anyone else.
Fighting at bantam, light and welter, Jewel's maximized her chances by stripping down her approach to the bare essentials; then honed her few tools to a razor sharp edge. You don't get a lot of bells and whistles with Jewel's style - a frame guard; come-forward attack behind a stubby jab, bashing hooks and heavy right hands - but it's earned her the respect of everyone she's fought and nobody who's gone ten with her will tell you it was an easy paycheck.
R1: Stone knows Jewel inside and out from spending years as her trainer and she - executes a fairly astute Kilcher-busting plan. A long approach jab keeps Jewel covered up; while a wide, low-slung, right takes Jewel heavily in left-side lats. Stone working conservatively, quick to clinch at every opportunity; riding her weight on Jewel while working the edges waiting for the ref's break. Stone putting her body on Kilcher; pushing/walking Jewel backward. Jewel doesn't fight well backing up - she's a come-ahead type of body slugger who doesn't work well when she's forced to move her feet too much.
R2: Same again - Sharon pounding Jewel hard to the body; tying her up; always leaning onto her and pushing/walking Jewel back to the ropes and she takes it all without complaint. While Jewel's not getting off enough to steal points, she's taking a pummeling from the hard-working Stone who isn't shy about uppercutting Jewel's juggs when she's in close - and on more than one occasion, a stray elbow finds it's way into the deep canyon of that Kilcher Kleavage as well.
R3: Jewel stymies Sharon a little this round - jabbing-with; forcing her way forward...at times looking like a drunk walking into a strong wind, but undeterred she keeps at it. Jewel finally starting to get some work done inside; digging into the middle of Stone's aging body. Sharon boxing outside in spurts - trying to thread rights between Jewel's frame guard up top, though she's having little success while doing just enough to keep Jewel from getting too comfortable in the pocket.
R4: Stone jabbing more and better early - then lunging in with slinging rights to the ribcage - then clinching and tucking in some pokes to the ribs before the referee finally separates them. Jewel getting grumpy from the body blows; and she's being frustrated by all the holding and hitting Stone's getting away with. Between rounds, her corner complains and the referee, ever accommodating, assures them, "I'll take a look at it."
R5: Jewel mounting more effective pressure this round - bobbing and weaving her way past Sharon's jab; able to punish her former mentor's soft torso. It's all Jewel until late when a blood-curdling, lapping, right/left combo to the crotch bunches Kilcher up gasping with hurt. Sharon leans in, then beats Kilcher without mercy while the placid ref looks on. Ref's got the best seat in the house yet can't seem to see a thing! Bell: loud boos cascade down as Stone pirouettes away, flouncing back to her corner all smug and self-satisfied; leaving Kilcher a smokin' ruin.
R6: Sharon Stone driving in behind a long lead right to the flank - falling in to tie up Jewel's arms and bundle her up, then and march her back against the ropes where ...while waiting for the referee's break, Sharon shields off the referee and works thick, hard and consistently to Kilcher's crotch. Lapping licks pound the young blonde's bikini front panel as sneaky (wily?) Stone uses her body to hide her perfidy from the ref's view. Thru six, Sharon Stone's getting it done on Kilcher's young body.
R7: Sharon again working the trunks and body; tying up/pushing off. Jewel badly weakened by Stone's consistent fouling; her guard growing sloppy. Stone is able to bang away with stiff one-twos up top and the sleepy, woozy, head-swiveling, shots leave Jewel stumbling around in a fog. Kilcher's nothing if not brave; still struggling to move forward; getting her head slammed back by Sharon's hammering rights. Finally, Jewel collapses in stages: to her her knees; then topples forward onto her heaving bosom and knees; finally sliding forward to splay starfished face down and out. Kilcher stopped by wily veteran Stone in a stunning upset; KO7!
After: "This was a bad match up for Jewel in a lot of ways," our in-house expert observed sagely. "Jewel's never been great against bigger women; and Stone knows Jewel's game better than Kilcher herself does. But most importantly, Stone knows she's got to get rough and make something happen - because odds are, she can't last the distance. And give her credit - Stone's not too proud to do whatever it takes to win. In that way, she's a lot like a Nolin, McCarthy, and other aging fighters who do what they must to put up a 'W'. You add it all up and it wasn't so unimaginable that Kilcher was getting into a bit of a jackpot situation here."
Jewel was unavailable to the media in the immediate aftermath, her handlers claiming she'd been, "...too badly hurt by all the fouls to put in an appearance" but promising "she'll have a lot to say about it later."
Stone, on the other hand, showed up promptly; all bouncy and eager; still wearing the sweaty, clingy, barely-there thong bikini she'd worn into battle - proudly flaunting the same toned old body she's bared in films like 'Basic Instinct 2' and beach photos for the past several years.
"You want to beat fighters like Kilcher," Sharon huffed and puffed, "you either beat their mind, or their body. Jewel's vulnerable to both and I didn't hesitate to take advantage of either one. She's limited in her ability, God love her; but she's one of the best in the FCBA coming forward. She's been able to beat bigger women in the welter division when they don't get on top of her early and let her dictate. I wasn't going to make that mistake; I put my weight on her from the git-go; pushed her around and took her out of her gameplan. I tell my girls, 'You can either be a lion or a lamb - and it's a lot more fun being a lion.' Tonight I gave them an object lesson in just how to do that."
NOTE: The series is tied at 3-3...so it all rests on the shoulders of Julie Benz and Sienna Miller!
