Samia has taken this fight, looking for a winning return to action following her defeat and harsh post-fight treatment in Belfast, followed by a quick beating from Christina Ricci. Selena is still looking for her first career win, and at 18, she is vulnerable against the shorter, but experienced, English girl.

Samia is wearing a nice black bikini for the fight, with Selena in a white one-piece. Both girls look apprehensive.

Round 1

Samia starts well, looking to attack the taller Selena to the body, but the teenager is frustrating her, keeping the speedy Brit at arm’s length, and Samia just can’t quite get to her, all the time having to take frequent left jabs to her face as she tries to get close enough. She backs off, comes forward, gets punched, does the same again, just can’t get there, and Selena has had a good round, leaving Samia red-faced at the bell.

Selena takes the first.

Round 2

Selena is boxing nicely, well coached, well schooled, and controlling the smaller Samia in the early exchanges, with the Brit upping her aggression, landing some solid bodyshots at last, still taking two headshots for every shot she lands, and her face is bruising, the girl frowning as she finally gets Selena onto the ropes, where she unloads some good shots, at last hurting the younger girl, who is whimpering by the bell.

Samia takes and equalising round.

Round 3

Now Samia is trying to draw Selena into a brawl, not usually good tactics for the little Brit, but Gomez just grins, tactically better than she’s been before, and she’s still keeping Samia at arm’s length, still landing those jabs, and Smith’s face is looking pretty bruised now, she’s taken a lot of shots. Finally, Selena makes a mistake, Samia gets inside her guard and takes her to the ropes, looks for some bodyshots, but can’t get the leverage, and isn’t able to hurt Selena.

Dull round, but Selena looked the better girl.

Round 4

Samia comes straight into attack, sensing she has Selena tiring, and she soon gets her to the ropes, hurting the American to the body, but she needs to get some head punches in, and every time she tries, she’s getting picked off, those jabs smacking into her face, sapping her energy and her will, and the round is drawing to a close with Samia now on the ropes, and now she’s beginning to take a beating here, with young Selena getting some neat shots into her face. It’s a dazed Samia who weaves her way to her stool.

Selena takes another round.

Round 5

Samia’s not so quick out this time, and Selena is on her early, jabbing that left jab again and again into Samia’s face, blood smeared over it now from the combination of a split lip and a damaged nose, another left jab rocks the smaller girl, then Selena puts her on the floor with a good right hook, and Samia just about beats the count at a wobbly 9. A smiling Selena closes in on little Samia – she has time to finish this fight right here, but she can’t quite find the right punch – Samia survives.

Another round for Selena – could this be her first career victory?

Round 6

Selena soon gets to work on an exhausted Samia in the sixth, batting her to the ropes in the opening seconds and hurting her to the body – she’s trying to set the older girl up for an uppercut, throws a left uppie, which isn’t clean, but it’s enough to put Samia down again, and she doesn’t try to get up.

Selena Gomez knocked Samia Smith out in round 6.

Selena just can’t stop smiling after her win, telling Denise van Outen, “Wow, that felt good! Outboxed her, outpunched her, beat her up, knocked her out! Wow! Wow! Who’s next? Dunno! I just wanna enjoy this moment!” Samia Smith agrees to a short interview, clearly shocked in defeat, “Didn’t expect that! But, I have to say ‘well done’ and get on with my life! Maybe I need a rest, but not til I’ve beaten Ryder again! Then I’ll decide!”
