Before: “It’s only natural for fans to want to see Jolene and I duke it out,” reasons AJ in preflight comments. “We’re similar builds, we’ve both done genre work, although that’s ALL Jolene can do--people want to see me clean up with my own backyard.” Blalock assesses the challenge in front of her “Jolie’s the best boxer in the division, she’s a southpaw, she’s torn Jennifer Connelly up in fights--those are solid credentials. They don’t mean anything against Jolene Blalock. I’m blowing Angelina away--no way she stands up to my punching.” Jolie in “Tomb Raider” black bikini, long battle braid--Jolene with short blonde tousle, pea green bra style sport bikini.

R1: Geometry very important to this bout. Girls stand shoulder to shoulder (Jolie’s right against Jolene’s left), forming a 90 degree L. Basically flat footed--as torsos weave there’s distance, but both can close up flush with just a lean. Jolie hand position: right on top of the left at her stomach and chest--she’s crouching forward, extending her right elbow to help block punches, bobbing up and down with minimum exertion. Jolene with a similar posture--bit more upright. Jolie dictating with class--easing her right shoulder into Jolene’s chest, then roasting midsection with sudden left uppies--thumping away in abrupt bursts, getting low, pivoting to the right and getting a slashing right hook in above Jolene’s left hip. In and out, patient stepping pace--Jolie just touches Blalock up--right hooks behind the left elbow or clouting on the cheek (often doubling up to take both in combination)--well-placed left hands snug between jugs or straight into jaw, always capped off with a tight right hook and head-bob on the way out. Jolene frustrated with her lack of contact--right hands consistently missing over top, jabs deflected by the southpaw angular defense.

R2: Angelina right back in there--the crouch, the angle, bending at the waist--tight slicing punches working over Jolene’s hip, lower back, cheek, chin, jugs and tummy. Scalding work to breadbasket as Jolie’s able to snuggle close and rip the left uppercut, then slide off to the side--Blalock flustered at AJ’s unusual combination of angles and lanky delivery from close range. Midway through--Jolie with a brisk right hook, spanking at Jolene’s left flank, then clouting her cheek--Blalock lumping up nicely, but she’s got an answer. Jolene mimicking Jolie, eases her left shoulder into Angelina’s chest, hoists the right uppercut thick to flat midriff in close, slides outside to clap a hook to ear and drives in HARD with that right hand to jaw. JOLIE SPRAWLS TO CANVAS! Angelina in wobbly-shock, hands and knees splayed out on all fours wide--eyes glassy with hurt and it’s OVER! Jolie switched off by Blalock’s devastating right hand early.

After: Jolie prettying Blalock up through most of the minutes--even exposing Angelina at the outset, but Jolene’s slinging power puts Jolie down with a shout. Blalock not one for post bout humiliations, but this one’s special--got to keep rival lanky bodies in their places. Nice sinewy walk of shame--Jolene very grabby with Angelina, long fingers on Jolie’s bony ribcage and hips, turning her in the corners, tugging at her long arms to pull her around--Jolie still not sure what just happened.
