Boxing on the Beach

Before: Malibu becoming a hotbed of hard-bodied cougar confrontations--older beauties who’ve kept up their conditioning refusing into yield the sun to the typical 20-something beach bunny. McCarthy really trimming down--strong limbed and tight-tummied--long-time beach veteran aging gracefully, looking firmer than ever. Cox a life-long gym rat always in shape--don’t tell HER she’s past her prime. Courteney in scarlet bikini, small black work out gloves, scruffy beach ponytail. Jenny in metallic blue bikini with halter style top, boy-leg bottoms; small black work out gloves; short bib hair cut. Malibu beach  front high noon--standard ring, bleachers, hot sun.

During R1: Brisk--both women ferreting each other out with frisky double jabs--both easing back from one another’s touch. Jabs to body negotiate range--fight ranging around the ring as girls take turns thrusting-in as the other springs back out of range, Not typical beach fare: girls boxing at a high level, using their legs, using the ring, gauging the opponent in a tactical first.

R2: Similar brisk, uptempo movement/sporadic punching. Girls range-in with jabs, then flurry viciously in combination, then disengage: bright, furious moments of activity punctuating tense moments of circling and stepping. Courteney places the best right hand of the round on Jenny’s chin, follows up moments later with a slutty right dug hard beneath Jenny’s left breast t take another close round.

R3: Taut, banging small-mitt contact when the girls close and work: fists cracking off slender ribs, muscular arms shivering as the girls lather and bat at each other. Courteney’s jab showing its class--marking Jenny under her left eye: Cox able to poke for initiative, then carve out advantage during the exchanges as Jenny’s usually rushing to catch up. McCarthy seething, attacking, but getting managed by the cooler, headier brunette in a series of crisp exchanges all around the ring

R4: Courteney‘s got the jab--stabbing it to Jenny’s face, or thrusting it to blonde‘s form, midsection. Cox starting to dial n the right cross--non-anticipatory delivery tidy off the shoulder, cleaving across Jenny’s chin and rattling her. Cox stepping right, dragging her left foot and clawing come-along hooks across Jenny’s breasts--or leaning in on that front (left) foot to really gouge the hook up into Jenny’s sternum. McCarthy grimacing, fielding hard touches, but grimly walking through them: Courteney under pressure throughout the round as she sidesteps, channeling her blonde into punishment.

R5: Jenny’s right hands get on track, scoring over Cox’s left shoulder and backing her up. Jenny edging in with lead left shoulder and hooking Cox’s tight abs and ribs: bright POK! PAK! Sounding out as Mac gets in there. Cox slide-stepping away, hands up, elbows in--she jabs as she’s retreating, making sure Jenny can’t pounce--but McCarthy’s clearly the aggressor in the fifth.

R6: Girls electing to trade more--fight still using a lot of ring, but fighters standing, leaning forward and getting off toe-to-toe more often. Mac heavier handed, but less accurate: Cox doing a nice job scoring-off-the-block, out-hitting Jenny in combination, Courteney with little torso twists, bibs, lean-backs, always moving her head even when her feet are stationary--then ripping, batting, lathering away off Jenny’s misses. Court comfortable sliding back half a step to adjust range, walking Jenny into the jab, then tarting her up the right cross--chipping little shots all adding up in blonde’s trim legs and tight backside through 6.

R7: Jenny working hard, face scowling--she’s setting her feet to punch, landing very loud right hands in Courteney’s left flank--but brunette continues to mesmerize art close-quarters. Cox nifty-quick inside--rolling a shoulder, parrying a shot, slipping a shot, then digging back hooks or dropping chopping right hands: Court nibbling, whittling away consistently, controlling Jenny, maybe even breaking her down somewhat in the seventh.

R8: Jenny tilting forward behind her gloves, looking for an opening: Court edges in on left foot, twitching three nasty, rising left hooks up into Jenny’s ribs and tummy. McCarthy grunting, forward with a hopeful right hand: Court slips in under it, deposits another hook short n’ vicious to ribs. Court slides back half a step while jabbing Jenny’s mouth, then edges in on front foot, ripping jagged left uppercut to sternum, easing away to the right as Mac gasps in pain, That’s the way of it--Courteney displaying exquisite left-hand technique to Jenny’s body, managing McCarthy’s pressure, pre-empting her, walking her into punishment. Jenny whiffing on shots, grimacing--by the third minute she STOPS coming forward, breathing hard through her mouth as she steps out, regroups and rests her throbbing body.

R9: Courteney electing to press, encounters more jenny than expected. Fierce, brisk, rapid-fire pounding back and forth as Cox goes shoulder to shoulder in hopes of lathering Jenny into submission. Mac benefiting from Courtney’s bolder stance: blonde able to land an equal amount of punches, slowly getting the better of it as a result. Weight of shot belongs to Jenny though Cox’s consistent body work may have wicked the KO power from the blonde, Mac shouldering Courteney around, bumping and slugging her, scoring in bursts to body, then clanging tight hooks off Coxie’s overhanging forehead. chopping rights to her temple in close.

R10: Cox a little choosier--looking to circle and prowl a bit before edging back inside--bit she wants the contact, seeking Jenny out all over the ring. Mac scoring well with a muscular, tight left hook to the Cox midsection, but otherwise frustrated: blonde unable to land anything concussive up top. Court also establishing to paunch via the close-in hook, but doubling the shot from there to breasts--easing to her right (back) foot while pivoting right to alter angle. In and out, getting off first, getting off quick--Courteney Cox out hustles Jenny McCarthy, touching her up, tidying her up and visibly discouraging her at the bell. Comes back UD10 Courteney Cox.

After: Good sharp, sun kissed battle--Cox proving an ageless wonder in open-air boxing really negating many of the McCarthy advantages coming in. Non-televised, but print reporters on the scene relay their impressions: both women looking very fit and polished over the course of a hard-working dime.
