“If I hear one more snipe about me being too short for this fight I’m going to bax that reporter’s ears.” Danielle Fishel lets out only half jokingly as she steps off the scale at the weigh in. “Seriously, I’ve been fighting taller girls my whole career and I think my record speaks for itself. I’ve met Aly at some of the Foxfire-Bazz social events and she’s a real nice girl with some serious top of the weightclass potential but Luner, Trickey, Carpenter et al with the long legs have all taken their beatings, now it’s Michalka’s turn.” Aly steps up on her scaleto Danielle’s right. “If you think that we trained for this fight with my height as some sort of advantage your crazy. She’s agile, powerful, experienced and she knows how to use her assets probably better than anyone else in this league. Still, I’m not helpless. I’m learning every fight and all the Bazz girls are in disgustingly good shape and have crazy quickness. I’m no exception.”

Danielle’s stocky body looking taut in a royal blue sports bra and matching bottoms and white boxing shoes, hair ponytailed for action. Aly long and lean in a Bazz sponsor Gaultier noir bustier, black bikini bottoms and black boots, her hair hanging down Hellcat tangly style.

Rd1 The fighters meet at center ring, a study in contrasts. Danielle bobbing and weaving making her head a moving target as she begins her relentless pursuit of the blonde’s midsection. Aly dancing lightly to her left snapping off jabs at Fishel in hopes of keeping her at bay. As the first few punches are landed Michalka seems to be getting a slight edge. A couple of her jabs hit home against The Tank’s forehead with the smacking sound of power and precision. Still the blonde’s best punches seem to be having little to no effect on the power packed bantam. Fishel continues to avoid most of the tall blonde’s punches with some evasive quickness of her own.

Rd2 Michalka and Fishel continue to do efficient jobs of making the other fighter miss. Aly using her long powerful legs to dance away from Danielle’s short vicious punches. Meanwhile the Tank’s head and shoulders bobbing everywhere that the blonde’s jabs aren’t. Aly is all jabs and hard work moving swiftly to her right. She’s definitely the aggressor but only catching The Tank on a small percentage of punches and although still crisp, the punches just aren’t slowing Fishel down. The two fighters make use of every square foot of the ring, Fishel trying to chase down the lanky blonde and inflict damage to the torso, Michalka on her bicycle giving her powerful opponent wide berth while flicking off jabs at a furious pace. Quick punches that are starting to pepper The Tank.

Rd3 Both girls warmed up now and ready to go. Fishel’s bobbling and weaving in hyperdrive. She’s landing punches to the gut now and stopping any Aly advances right in their tracks. Yet even in retreat Michalka jabs are landing. More success breeds more aggression. Fishel opens up with some powerful hooks aimed at the blonde’s ribcage. Aly winces with each connection but refuses to back down. Long jabs now combine with uppercuts as Michalka opens up her own repertoire and starts to connect. The crowd now on the edge of their seats as Ali-Frazier comes to mind not only with the two fighters’ styles but with the hope of a quality fight.

Rd4 The fight is now at full intensity. Michalka no longer retreating. She’s standing toe to toe with Fishel using her length to land combinations on Fishel’s thick body. Fishel still moving her body up and down all around and throwing bombs sidearm and hooking the body. Michalka manning up and taking the punishment in order to get her licks in. She lands an overhand to Fishel’s head which seems to

momentarily stun the power puncher but then Dani’s engine stutters and starts back up and bombs fly once again. Michalka creates space sliding around Fishel to avoid her punishment. As close as the fighting is when the bell rings it’s Michalka who is maintaining an edge thus far.

Rd5 Michalka goes on the attack. Finding more luck on the move the tall blonde circles Fishel using her jabs. The punches sting and Dani’s covering up now fully frustrated with her opponent’s long arms. Michalka’s set up several long uppercuts that stun the shorter bantam and bring the crowd to their feet. Fishel withstands a withering assault from Michalka. She continues to cover up waiting for a chance but it isn’t coming and her defenses are allowing in enough oily uppercuts to cause some damage. Michalka too hot to stop dead in her tracks as the bell rings and the ref dances between the two to stop the brawl.

Fishel limps back to her corner, her eyes dark with anger from Michalka’s after bell punches.

Rd6 Fishel out with a purpose. She backs the tangly blonde down against the ropes ignoring the jabs and uppercuts while handing out some devastating body shots. It’s Aly’s turn to cover up and play defense but there’s just too much torso to protect and Dani’s dealing out her share of pain. Suddenly it’s a jugalicious flurry with Fishel doing a bang up job on the blonde’s ample rack. Michalka’s abundance in dire need of relief as Fishel leaves the contents of the Gaultier garment in shambles, a mere off the rack rag from Target as the bell rings. Aly stumbles back to her corner helding onto the damaged goods.

Rd7 More of the same for the two fighters. The Tank out of her pen rolling into her opponent hunting down some more jug. Fishel quickly corners Michalka against the ropes and a serious Dani rally is underway. Heavy work to the body with an occasional jab to the chin to keep the subdued blonde honest. Fishel is working hard to turn the tide against Michalka but the blonde is doing a good job of covering up against the ropes. Suddenly Aly times a defensive jab and knocks Fishel in the forehead. It only slows the tough Fishel for a second. She’s back at Michalka’s body trying to damage the well protected torso. Michalka’s intermittent jabs find Fishel as the bell sounds.

Rd8 Fishel trapping Michalka once again against the ropes. Neither fighter tired as the shorter boxer pounds at the taller’s torso and jugs. Michalka bouncing off the ropes using the movement to avoid The Tanks brutal punches. Crowd goes crazy as Fishel has her way for the third straight round. Suddenly a voice bellows above the crowd. “Get off the blooooody roooopes!” Poindexter Del Crunchy’s command is gospel to Michalka. She moves to the side and escapes to the center of the ring just as the bell rings.

Rd9 Aly gets a stern lecture from Pointy and Monica Brant regarding her strengths and how she’s refused to use them for the past three rounds. Aly bolts from her stool a hellcat unleashed. When Fishel tries to bull her back into a corner Michalka dances back and connects on a powerful combination to the head. Fishel is rocked and staggers back into her own cover up mode. Aly launches bombs from a safe distance knocking Fishel around against the ropes. Dani defends herself against Michalka’s blitzkrieg as best she can but the jabs and uppercuts are landing now.

Rd10 Michalka back in control. She goes right after Fishel with a hard jab and uppercut combination that sends her against the ropes in distress. Michalka pours on the hurt against the wilting Tank connecting with a powerful uppercut to the chin that draws a roar from the crowd and nearly knocks Fishel’s block off. Michalka keeps on the pressure but as each fighter has done before Fishel survives by ducking underneath Michalka’s clutches. The round ends with Michalka chasing down Fishel with her long distance jabs as The Tank covers up in retreat. Michalka takes the round and the fight. UD10

After: A real barn burner, back and forth fight with Michalka ultimately gaining control in the eighth. “Boy that girl is tough!” Michalka gushes while wiping her face with a towel. “She’s just so powerful and she never stops coming at you. Well it’s official. I’ve beaten one of the best bantams of all time. What a feeling. On to bigger and better things!” An obviously disappointed Fishel shows her frustration with the end of the fight. “Well it came down to the last two rounds and give her credit, she took the fight to me. She’s got a real dangerous combination with that long jab and stiff uppercut. I could say that she’s going to give some girls real problems once she polishes up those jabs but I think that sh’e already done that.”
