Gabrielle is a pretty slick boxer, a girl who never really got the breaks in FCBA when she was young enough to be a major contender, and she’s keen to beat the young Brit who promises so much at welter, maybe just a little lacking defensively at the moment.

Gabrielle wears a black bikini tonight, with Michelle in a white one-piece, making her look strangely timid.

Round 1

Gabrielle starts well, outclassing the young Brit early, confusing her as she dodges back and forth, moving the girl around the ring, picking her off already as she cuffs her face almost too easily, then gets at her body when the pair clinch. Union’s making Ryan look silly, but she loses concentration late in the round, and gets punished as Ryan bangs her in the face good and hard, three solid shots, then a right into the gut, before dropping heron her butt at bell with a left to the chin.

That knockdown steals the round for Michelle.

Round 2

Gabrielle has used the break to shake off any harm done by Michelle in that late assult, and she ups the tempo and gradually shreds the Ryan defence with combinations and quick pivots to fresh angles. This is classy stuff from Union, who has young Ryan hurt early and often, the girl’s face reddening and marking, her legs buckling occasionally, but she’s too strong to go down. Union carries on hitting the Brit, looking good as she changes her line and angle of attack, really teaching the kid a lesson in this round.

Good round for Gabrielle.

Round 3

Each girls has felt the power of her opponents fists, and this round starts with a more cautious Michelle jabbing Gabrielle’s face, needing to wear the older girl down to combat her superior leg speed. As the round progresses, Ryan is just methodically working inside to deposit body shots until Union clinches for break, the American getting hurt at this stage as Michelle thumps her ribs and flanks continually.

That’s Michelle’s round, just.

Round 4

Still Michelle Ryan is methodically at Gabrielle, working hard to the older girl’s body, with the older girl only able to counter at this stage by clinching and holding, not looking quite so classy now. Then, midway through the round, Ryan hurts Union, ripping two fast hooks into her ribcage, another to the jaw, before pinging a left across the mouth to have the girl’s knees shaking. It’s a tough finish to the round for Gabrielle as Michelle gives that proud body of hers quite a working over on the ropes.

Michelle takes that round easily.

Round 5

Michelle comes out quickly again, looking to press home the advantage, but Gabrielle shows resilience now, shaking off a beating to her body over the past few minutes to work her magic around the ring. The older girl shocks Ryan by being more mobile this time out, and she’s boxing the Brit well, too clever to stand still and she’s smacking Michelle around, pivoting, swirling those shapely hips, and unloading some neat shots. Michelle’s still getting enough shots into Union’s body to keep her partly defensive, but this has been a great recovery.

Gabrielle sneaks a round back.

Round 6

Gabrielle bounces out of her corner all cute and dancing again, but Ryan's will prevails - she gets to Union's chest, forcing tidy exchanges on the inside. These are hard minutes for Gabrielle as the two girls fight it out shoulder to shoulder. Michelle is handing the older girl a savage battering to her flanks and belly now, each punch bringing a gasp from her lips, and she does well to keep the Brit off, even landing a few of her own shots in the closing stages.

Another close round to Michelle.

Round 7

Michelle looks a little tired at this stage, allowing Gabrielle to dictate the pace again, and the older girl strangely elects to stay inside, firmly pushing her shoulder into Ryan while pivoting, effectively turning Michelle in the pocket. Union carries on in her classic style, working the angles, keeping Ryan off balance, then outpunching her when they’re in close, working well to the head, smacking the younger girl’s reddened features around nicely.

A resurgent Gabrielle takes that round.

Round 8

The girls are both tiring, Gabrielle no longer on her toes, so they fight it out inside again, with the younger, possibly stronger Ryan starting to prevail again as she bodies Gabrielle to the ropes, the older girl definitely weakening, and Ryan is denying Union the chance to slide to the side. Gabrielle takes a beating again, as Michelle shoves her around, belting heavy punches into her body, giving the older girl a methodical thumping - she's just reducing Gabby in the pocket here. Gabrielle is slick on defence, but she’s suffering in this round, just not able to find an answer as Michelle powers through her guard, lumping her face up.

Michelle wins that round, and is well on top.

Round 9

That 8th round took it's toll on Gabrielle - she doesn't want any more trading with Michelle toe to toe. Union is stuggling now, taking perhaps too much punishment as she stays close, tying Ryan up when she can, pulling her arms into clinches, just hoping for an opening. But Michelle’s being a bully here as she forces the fight on Gabrielle, pushing her around, banging her left and right hooks into that sagging mouth.

Another winning round for Michelle.

Round 10

Michelle comes out looking to finish in style, but brave Gabrielle shows a blended look - some leg outside; some slick trading inside, then that push-and-pivot routine to turn Michelle. This is a great performance from Union, still outboxing the younger girl in the final round of a tough fight, and the matchup ends with Michelle on the ropes defending, Gabrielle picking her off with swift combination punches.

Overall though, Michelle Ryan beats Gabrielle Union on points.

Liz Hurley is pleased that her girl has won the fight with Gabrielle, but had hoped for a knockout, and tells Denise van Outen, “Credit to Gabby – I thought she’d quit when ‘Chelle started beating her up!” Victoria Beckham shakes her head, “My girls fight for me, Hurley – I’m a top manager, you see!”
