TESS VALMORE
BILSON/ HALE Actually I had more fun watching Kristen Bell referee this fight, than I did the fight itself. Quite frankly, to nobody’s surprise, I don’t know who Lacy Hale is. I don’t know how good an actress she is, but as a fighter she leaves s
omething to be desired. Bilson took the first two rounds and Hale the next two. I had the fifth going Bilson’s way. Bilson dialed in the sixth and beat Hale to her knees. Hale got up, but Bell stopped the fight much to Hale’s dismay
FREGE/ CLARKSON We thought this would be a close fight. It wasn’t. After Frege took the first round, Clarkson reeled off four straight. Frege got the sixth and then lost the next three. All Clarkson has to do was finish the fight and she had a win. She did, but barely as Frege put on a rally, but ran out of time. Clarkson got the wide decision
HALLIWELL/ HANNIGAN Hannigan has a three fight contract with RiRy. It looks like it will be a short stay in that stable. If you can’t beat Halliwell, who can you beat? Hannigan did win some rounds, but she had no power and didn’t seem to hurt Halliwell, who dropped her opponent in the first and final rounds. Halliwell got the decision as she should.
DENNINGS/ FISHEL I said it before the fight and I say it again. This was a fight that nothing more than a bout to give Fishel a win, and better her dismal record since coming out of retirement. There was no suspense here. Dennings did manage to win two rounds and survive the fight. Fishel had one knockdown but the fact the Dennings survived to go to a decision was not a feather in Fishel’s cap
CARTER/ PRESSLY I think Pressly is right. Carter should stay down with the flyweights, and Pressly showed us exactly why. After taking the first round, Pressly landed a couple punches to the stomach and a huge right to the jaw and Carter’s night was over big time. Carter wants to stay a bantam. She can expect more of the same
LEYODEN/ SANCHEZ Not much to say about this fight as it went as expected, although it ended a little earlier than I expected. Sanchez took the first round. She should have gone home then. Leyoden came on the take the second and third. In the fourth, she landed a series of hooks and followed with a right cross that put Sanchez into dream land
SHIELDS/ TYLER How did this match get made. Shields is 46 years old and Tyler is 41. This used to be called a cougar fight. Is their such a thing as a cougar now? I mean, are we going to see Betty White in the next PPV? Well anyway, after Shields took the first round, Tyler got in gear and took the next four, including decking Shields twice in the third. Shields managed to take the sixth, but succumbed to Tyler’s punching in the seventh and went down and out.
DECESARE/ ENGLAND This was a bout that was a sure winner prediction wise. Decesare is bigger and much more experienced and more successful. She spent the first four rounds sorting England out, and giving up a round. In the fifth, Decesare came close to disaster as England decked her. The sixth, however, was England’s undoing as Decesare worked her body and chin until a final right uppercut ended the fight. Decesare walked away with a KO victory
WINSTEAD/ PEREGRYM Winstead has been fighting a lot in the BBU. She should stay there. She managed to finish the first round against Peregrym but that is about as far as she got as Peregrym shelled her unmercifully in the second and the fight was stopped. Peregrym is definitely a fine fighter and one of the better young lightweights but she tooting her own horn when she refers to Winstead as a “great fighter” Winstead is 1-7 in her last FCBA fights. Hardly a prime performance, which calls into question how long Foxfire will stay with her. Miss Bell got back into the ring the second time tonight, and this time it was a horrendous sneaky attack on Winstead, who did nothing to Bell in her whole career. The Commissioner should look at the film
LANDRY/ HEIGL This promised to be one of the better fights of the night and it was. Landry got off to a fast start flooring Heigl in the first. Heigl took the next three rounds and Landry the fifth, giving Heigl the lead at the half way point. Landry then took the next three rounds for a commanding lead. Heigl took the last round but it wasn’t enough and Landry got a well deserved decision
HATHAWAY/ STRAVHOSKI. I thought Hathaway would last about two rounds. She went all the way to a decision for what some call a good performance. She did have the fight tied at the end of six and she floored Stravhoski in the first. Stravhoski took the seventh and in the eighth, she pounded Hathaway so badly, Stravhoski was asking the ref to stop the fight so she wouldn’t have to hit her anymore. Hathaway, surprisingly, came back in the ninth, but went down in the tenth, which ended all her hopes of victory. Stravhoski by a decision
GELLAR. STEWART Gellar has become an FCBA joke. In her last 15 FCBA fights she has lost 14 and had one draw. Well now make that 15 losses and 9 straight, The FCBA won’t let my buddy Avril fight, why do they continue to let this loser into the ring. Gellar made it into the fifth when Stewart got in a good body punch and a right to the chin and Gellar did her carpet imitation. Another win for Front Street
CHURCH/ SPEARS I didn’t give Church much of a chance against Britney, but then no one did. We all were right. It was an entertaining two plus rounds and Church did give a good account of herself but she just isn’t in Spear’s class. Spear's body work was just to much for Church and the fight was stopped.
PARK/ DUSHKU This was quite a fight. The fight was even at the end of six with each having a knockdown. Dusku took the next two rounds and a commanding lead going into the ninth. Park came back to take the last two rounds and force the fight into a tie breaker. Park won the eleventh and needed to take the twelve. Unfortunately Dushku took the round and the next round, and walked away with the decision.
MICHALKA/ ACCOLA Michalka looking to move up to lightweight simply took Accola to the woodshed. Some said that this fight would have been considered a farce sometime ago. but now it seemed competitive. It wasn’t. Michalka shelled Accola for three rounds and beat her into a stupor in the fourth to get a TKO. Will Michalka get a title shot before she finally moves up? She certainly could give the champ an interesting fight
HARNOIS/ COOK I really thought Beth would win and it hard to see one of your friends lose. This just wasn’t Beth’s night. Cook took the fight to her in the first but I expected Beth to come back in the second. In the second, an over hand right caught Beth and she went down and out. I felt for her
LAWRENCE/ CORNISH This was a fight that was unexpected. It was Lawrence’s debut. It wasn’t what you might term, successful. The fight was tied at the end of four but then Cornish went on a tear taking the next four rounds and the tenth to get a wide decision
LIVELY/ DE LA GARZA Lively seems to be getting better in every fight. For the first part of this fight, however, it didn’t look very good for the blonde. De La Garza took four of the first five rounds and put Lively on the canvas in the third. Lively came back in the sixth and looked like champ as she took the rest of the fight to De La Garza She won the last half of the fight and got a one point decision. I had her winning by a somewhat wider margin
HELFER/ SWANEPOEL This was a huge shock and a major upset that could well be the lightweight upset of the year. There was no way that Swanepoel would beat Helfer. Swanepoel did give a good account of herself taking two of the first five rounds but I thought, give Helfer another round or so and it would be all over. It was over in a round but not the way I expected. Swanepoel landed chopping right to the chin and Helfer went out suspended in the ropes. Certainly Helfer did not deserve the walk of shame and the Academy corner should not have permitted it. They will eventually regret it if there is a rematch.
PERABO/ LILLY Lightning struck twice. I never dreamed the Perabo would beat Lilly and my prediction rate is pretty good. It just wasn’t going to happen. Not in anyone’s lifetime. Lilly was looking good and taking charge of the bout at the end of the third, In the fourth Piper land a left to Lilly’s ear and Lilly was hurt. A series of hooks to the chin and then to the body sent Lilly to the canvas. She managed to get to her feet, but the ref didn’t like what he saw and stopped the fight. Perabo gets a huge TKO win
WATSON/ KUNIS This was a big fight for Kunis. Her first for HISC, the class small girl stable. She needed to make a good show for her stablemates. She didn’t have the toughest opponent though. Kunis dominated the fight taking seven of the first nine rounds and putting Watson on the canvas once. Watson made a big comeback in the tenth knocking Kunis down but was unable to finish her. Kunis got a wide decision but apparently didn’t impress her stablemate, Portman
CRUZ/ JONES I enjoyed this fight. Jones gave a better account of herself than I expected. Cruz took the first five rounds and appeared on the way to a shut out. In the sixth Jones put Cruz on the canvas, Jones won the eighth and had Cruz helpless at the end of the ninth. Jones needed a knockout and it appeared that she had Cruz ready to go. In the tenth, however, it was Cruz who landed the knockout punch and gained the KO win
JOHANNSON/ DANES I really don’t remember but this may be the first PPV that had two extra inning bouts. This pretty much followed the script of the Dushku/ Park fight with the two being even at the end of six, then one taking the next two rounds, and the other the last two rounds. We had a draw. Into extra rounds. Johannson took the eleventh and Danes the twelfth. Johannson the salted the fight away taking the next two rounds. It was a fine fight. I just wish Danes would have won
PANETTIERE/ MILLER The first championship fight of the night and it was a good one. Hayden dominated the first part of the fight, but the rounds were close. In the sixth, she floored Miller, not once but twice. Miller then surprisingly came back to take the final four rounds of the fight but it wasn’t enough to overcome Panettiere’s early lead and the two knockdowns. The champ got the decision
DUFF/ CUTHBERT. Every once in a while, in all divisions, we get a champ who shouldn’t be. One who has no chance of defending her title even once. Case in point, Duff. An unlikely champ going in and an ex champ coming out. Duff did give Cuthbert a hard time in the first four rounds but in the fifth the clock struck twelve for Cinderella. Cuthbert hurt Duff to the body and cashed in by going to the head, punching Duff helpless. The ref called a halt to the fight. Cuthbert is the new bantam champ
PALICKI/ THERON. In my prediction I said that Palicki would be able say she “started the golden goddess’s spiral down to the minor leagues” She punched Theron back into the Neolithic period. She destroyed her as a top fighter. She decked the blonde in the second. Theron dropped Palicki in the sixth but couldn’t finish her and Palicki then devastated the old lady by a savage TKO Theron can no longer compete with the good young lightweights. In this fight, Theron proved she has lost her punch (couldn’t finish), her stamina (couldn’t take it), and her smarts,(fought wrong fight) if she ever had any. I seriously doubt she can compete successfully with any top ten fighter any longer and certainly not a champion. She’s on her way to those fights in bars in Tia Juana that Sim wants to see. Congratulations to Adrianne. Great job. For Charlize. get smart. Go away
NOLIN/ RIGHETTI This is ending as a good night. Theron gets pounded into oblivion and then Amanda takes Nolin to the cleaners. Righetti put Nolin on the canvas in the first and then had to put up with Nolin fouls in the second that had her crippled into the third. After that, it was all Righetti, as she swept the rest of the rounds and took the title away from Nolin. I see where Sceej is thinking about putting Palicki up against Amanda. I really like Palicki. Please Sceej think about that very seriously. Not a good idea.
LAW/ REGAN I guess this was the walk out fight. Hey Commissioner, don’t put one of my buddies in the last fight of the night. That’s what the Academy is for. They got a beaten up old blonde to fill that bill. Regan has been very nice to me and i was rooting for her. It was hard to see Beth lose in two but it was great to see Bridget win in two. The first round wasn’t one of her best but in the second round, Bridget rocketed a right that exploded on target and Law was in dreamland big time.
