PARTIAL  REPORT

BOXING AFTER DARK

Before:
Govich entering an optimistic phase of her career: wins a few fights in a row, gets ranked for the first time – obviously upbeat before the fight. Freeman still well-regarded by boxing experts, but waiting for her breakthrough performance to prove beating Biel wasn’t just a fluke.

Fight:
Shutout Freeman for the first two rounds: Govich in constant earmuff, taking it to the body as Cassidy grinds in. Milena unhurt - just outworked - but coming off as strangely lethargic, taking body punches all along. Shutout continues in R3: and now it’s getting uglier. Horrific Cassidy punching has Milena hurt from the get-go, immensely suffering from wrecking torso-punishment. Big Milena rocked at the ropes, bleakly taking hits like a stubborn mule, refusing to bend her knees despite shattering blasts on her chin. Freeman can’t get Govich to go down, but it’s a horrifying display of one big-girl completely owning another big-girl. One round on, Cassidy’s a bit tired, but still able to control the action against an ever-more lethargic, grumpy Milena. Govich just slugging back, pushing free occasionally, but ends up on the ropes taking more punishment still. R5 finally sees Cassidy ease off the gas – Govich at last mounting continued offence to walk Cass down behind her jab, bashing away in payback fashion.

Govich continues her rally in R6, but the redhead’s regaining the initiative late. Violent hook sits a shocked Govich down at the bell – Cass steals the round! Freeman wades in next round: spanking Milena beef in strong patterns while the brunette just lays back, waiting, sponging up. Govich just looking uncomfortable, retreating throughout R8,9: touched up heavy, reacting slow, blinking – just all out frustrated tonight. Continued punishment has Milena mouthbreathing, battered grumpy/slow – Cass drops her early in R10 again! Govich almost good to go, but thick, strong legs keep her standing, taking enormous punches until the bell.

Review: Probably the worst night of Milena Govich’s career – essentially relegated to a punching bag for Cassidy Freeman, winning a mere single round. Recent momentum killed – Govich was never in this fight at all. Great performance for Cassidy finally showing some of that talent everybody’s talking about but we haven’t seen that much of so far.
