BEFORE:
"Rohm's been rather disappointing, hasn't she?" says a smiling Cat. "I mean, who's she ever beaten, really? Plus, she's like a hundred years old! It's about time someone puts her out to pasture, and I'll be happy to do the job tonight!"
"Cat's nothing more than a stay-busy for me, " says a dead-serious Lis. "I suspect some of the boys think she'll look pretty all stretched out, which is why this fight got made. Well, don't worry, boys, Lis will be happy to oblige."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Would that be one Ted Nugent on the speakers doing a little ditty called 'Cat Scratch Fever'?"
McCarthy: "If you say so, Jenny, but there's no mistaking the blonde in the black robe. That would be Cat Deeley of BBU-UK. Cat gets in the ring, drops the robe to reveal a basic black bikini, and, she's no J-Mac, but she doesn't look half bad in that thing..."
O'Dell: "Uh oh! I hear bagpipes playing 'Ride of the Valkyrie', and there's no doubt the closest thing to a Valkyrie in the FCBA is German-born Elisabeth Rohm!"
McCarthy: "Again, Rohm's no J-Mac, but that sea foam green bikini doesn't look bad on her. Who's the lunatic in the dress with her?"
O'Dell: "Now, Mac, you know very WELL that's Poindexter Del Crunchy and that's a KILT, not a dress. And I think you also know who Rhona Mitra is, and why it isn't wise to make fun of Pointy!"
McCarthy: "Rhonda who?"
O'Dell: "ANYway, the preliminaries are about over, let's hear your pick, Mac!"
McCarthy: "I think Deeley's slicker and quicker than Rohm. I think all she has to do is box her and Lis is in trouble. If this goes ten, Deeley wins wide, and I think it will."
O'Dell: "Well, you heard it here first, and we're ready to go. There's the bell for round one, and Deeley's on her horse right away, circling the Bazz blonde, snapping out a nice right jab. Rohm stalking, looking to close."
McCarthy: "And Deeley doesn't want any of that. Keeps legging to open ground. Gets off, and gets out. Good, stuff."
O'Dell: "Rohm not finding Cat here. Continues to stalk and try to cut off the ring, but Cat showing good movement, fast hands. Nice double up on the jab by Cat before scooting away to her right, staying away from Lis' right hand."
McCarthy: "This is an excellent strategy. Hurley may be smarter than I thought. There's the bell, and that's a good, solid first round to Cat Deeley."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Round two and Deeley with a nice right hand lead, follows with a left hook to the ribs, ducks a right hand counter, slips away to the right, back on her bicycle, as Rohm slowly stalks again."
McCarthy: "Cat snapping out that left jab, moving those feet, tassels bouncing, as Lis keeps coming forward, but it's like the bull and the matador. Cat keeps pulling the cape away."
O'Dell: "Cat with a one-two upstairs. Lis counters with a nice straight left, her best punch of the fight, but Deeley not hurt, dances back to open canvas. Stops, pops, bounces right again. Rohm landing a jab or two here, but Cat's gone before she can follow up, catches Lis coming forward with another one-two to the face. Lis with a short left hook to the ribs, but Deeley slaps a left to the side of the head and circles away as the bell rings. Another round to Deeley, I think."
McCarthy: "No doubt, Jenny. Deeley's having things her way so far, just like I predicted."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Action back underway, Rohm aggressively after Cat, but Deeley keeping the range with that long, accurate jab. Stopping Rohm, then slipping away. Rohm keeps coming, keeps pressuring, starting to find the range with that left jab."
McCarthy: "Rohm landing a left and a glancing right here. Cat fires back with a three-punch combination to the head. Lis downstairs with a left-right set of hooks to the flanks. Best exchange of the fight so far!"
O'Dell: "Deeley up and out of there, back to the center and Rohm relentless, letting her hands go at range here. Deeley firing back. Both girls missing more than they're landing, but both scoring. Lis not hard to find, willing to take one to give one...and there's the bell. Looked pretty even to me, Mac!"
McCarthy: "Yeah, I've got that one a draw. Good round for both girls."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Three in the books and here comes the fourth, and we're seeing the same pattern, Deeley sticking and moving, Rohm stalking..."
McCarthy: "Oh! Nice right from Cat there! Snapped Rohm's head back!"
O'Dell: "Cat following up that jab with probably her biggest punch of the fight. There's another! Stopped Lis in her tracks for a second, but Rohm right back after Deeley."
McCarthy: "Lis getting too aggressive here, I think...another hard right from Deeley! Cat staying in there just a bit longer, leaning into those follow up rights off the left jab!"
O'Dell: "Rohm still coming forward, but Cat's making her pay. ANOTHER solid right, Deeley! Rohm feeling it, but she's taking them and still coming."
McCarthy: "Deeley snaps Lis's head again there! Rohm still not hurt, but this kind of thing will add up. Those are solid shots."
O'Dell: "Cat circling, snapping out the jab again now as the round comes to an end, and that was Cat's best round yet."
McCarthy: "Sure was. She's slowly taking control of this fight, Jenny! Take a look at one of those right hands here on the replay. Watch the jab stop Rohm's forward momentum. Now, watch Cat step with the right foot and...BAM! Like I said, shots like that will add up!"
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Back to live action here in the fifth. Rohm again stalking, looking to cut off the ring, but Cat too quick here. Moving nicely, using that jab to..."
McCarthy: "DOWN GOES DEELEY! WHAT A RIGHT HAND FROM LIS ROHM!"
O'Dell: "Cat landed the left jab, but Rohm slipped the follow up right and landed a nasty counter right hook to the chin! Deeley up at seven. Going to take the eight count here, and on comes Lis! Cat in a tight guard and Rohm going to work to the body, banging home hooks to the flanks and breadbasket, driving Deeley back into the ropes!"
McCarthy: "This is what'd dangerous for Cat! She's got to ride out this round! She's hurt. The legs aren't there. And Rohm knows it!"
O'Dell: "Lis hooking to the body, trying to bring down that guard. Now banging away to the head as Deeley leans back into the ropes, covering up, clinching, Rohm shoving free. Good right hand wobbled Cat there...and there's the bell! Rohm shoving up off Deeley, heading hard-eyed back to her corner. Cat unsteady, but she survived the round."
McCarthy: "Let's check the big punch on the replay, Jenny. Cat with a nice jab. Now, watch her step into this right hand. Lis slips it, takes a half step left, and bangs the counter home, a short right hook that sent Deeley to the canvas."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Back to live action and Lis is right after Cat. Deeley circling, snapping out the jab, trying to stay away from Rohm."
McCarthy: "Good strategy here for Cat. Just get out of this round, get your legs back. You've still got the lead. You're still in control of the fight."
O'Dell: "Rohm not getting off here, not letting her hands go. Can't seem to get in good position to punch. Deeley doubling up on the jab, circling back to the center. Keeping her distance, scoring points."
McCarthy: "Rohm a little frustrated here. Wants to finish, but Cat too quick, landing and getting out of range. Great round for Deeley."
O'Dell: "And there's the bell, and Cat appears to have stabilized and added to her lead."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Back in action in the seventh, and Cat back on the bicycle."
McCarthy: "Got the legs back after that knockdown. Moving a lot better, and that's bad news for Lis."
O'Dell: "Cat's snapping jabs, bouncing on her toes, circling and moving. Lis trying to get in close, stalking, wants to work the body, but Deeley has other plans. Using that jab to set up those nice, hard rights again."
McCarthy: "Good stuff from Cat here. Long-range right hands with some power behind them. Stopping Rohm cold. OH! Nice whippy hook that put Lis on her heels! Rohm backing up for the first time in the fight!"
O'Dell: "Cat coming forward behind that jab. Still cautious. Scoring right up to the bell. Great round for Cat, who is now in firm control."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Getting started here in the eighth, and I've got Cat with a pretty solid lead here, Mac..."
Jenny: "Four points on my card, might be five, depending on how the judges saw the third."
O'Dell: "And it ain't broke, so Cat isn't fixing it, right back to boxing as Lis continues to stalk, trying to find the range here. Deeley using that straight speed left to keep Rohm away. Nice hard follow up right snapped Lis' head back. Deeley circles away to the left. Snaps out the jab...BIG RIGHT HAND LIS! DOWN GOES CAT! DOWN GOES CAT!"
McCarthy: "Rohm slipped that left jab, hopped a step forward to the right, and blasted a right cross into Cat's chin. Deeley went down face first and she hasn't moved an inch!"
O'Dell: "Doesn't matter if she does or not now! The count reaches ten and it's OVER! The winner by KO8, Elisabeth Rohm!"
AFTER:
McCarthy: "Let's go up to the ring and Jenny O'Dell..."
O'Dell: "Thanks, Mac. I'm here with the winner of tonight's first bout, Lis Rohm, and Lis, I've got to ask, was Cat tougher than you thought?"
Rohm(smiling): "I've got to admit, she was. She's a better boxer than I thought. She's quick. She can move. I knew I could get her out of there if I could get to her. Took some time, but I got there. That's the thing about fighting Lis Rohm. Sooner or later, I'm going to get to you. And then you're going to take a nap on the canvas." |
