Before: beware the hyper! Crawford talking up this fight like it’s a meeting of titans, but neither girl really known for explosive punching, both are cerebral boxers who set up right hand well, tend to break their opponents down and fight for decisions for first, Kos second. Farrell the readier of the two, she had the height she needs, but Crawford definitely the beefier--just a question of whether she can find ways to use it. Cindy in teal later-style sports bra, grey cotton stretch shorts, ponytail--Terry in royal blue high neck sports bra high cut aerobics briefs, ponytail.
During R1-3: Loping, calculating, tentative battle at long distance--girls leaning in with jab, stepping around, usually missing the infrequent right hands thrown. it’s Crawford’s mind of fight--Terry cooperating, not pressuring the big brunette--Cindy able to work a breast an eye or a cheek at will with her heavy left hand, touching up Terry’s body parts with methodical precision. All three rounds to Cindy.
R4: Crawford shifts her weight to the barefoot, looking drive in with the right cross, and midway through, she trades hooks, the catches Farrell’s long legs, then locking up--good hard, straight lick did damage. Typical Cindy doesn’t look to finish--she stays away, content to lay in that pile diver jab to the belly or between the eyes--Farrell lumping up through 4.
R5: Crawford’s best round this far. Changing up tempo in the first minute, she charges across the ring, jabs Terry to the ropes and bends into a crashing right hand on the face that has Farrell hanging on. Crawford stepping back outside, lets her left hand do most of the heavy lifting the rest of the way--Farrell with her back to the corner, covering up, unable to get her feet moving, starts to get potshotted as Cindy leans in on her front door, pokes the left, drops the right hand down the middle, then leans onto her back foot to make Farrell’s pushing receipts fall short. Masterful, if sleep-inducing domination from Crawford as she bloodies Terry’s nose this round with pinpoint licks.
R6: Cindy up on her toes, loping heavily, but fluidly around her girl, stuffing the jab in between the breasts, then pushing it into the face. Only when Crawford stop circling does she settle down, step in with the rangefinder to really bang back Terry’s head. Farrell just not doing anything--she’s not moving her hands, she can’t find the distance with the right cross--she’s just admiring Cindy’s artful ring generalship as Crawford continues to bust up Farrell’s face.
R7: FIGHT! Farrell suddenly wakes up and goes right at Crawford, doubling up on the jab, and hurling in a tough overhand right between the breasts to back the champ to the ropes. Hammer and tongs trade as the big women bend side to side, pulling haymakers into one another’s jaw and CRAEFIRED IS HURT! Both girls clapping hooks onto chins, but Cindy’s legs give way as Farrell gets the better of the trade. Farrell continues to bang away, but Cindy shows some slick D, covering up, bouncing from one set of corner ropes to the other and dropping the right hand in over Terry’s shoulder. Down the stretch, TERYY goes wobbly butt as Cindy beats the left hook with a short right hand on the teeth. Crawford brawling Farrell to the ropes, neatly reversing their positions and piling on with pumping lefts and rights to the body at the bell. Farrell awarded the all-action round as the crows wakes up cheering.
R8: Girls go back to the long distance jab, but it’s more intense, and both are keen follow up with heavy straight right hand as connect percentages start to rise. Even most of the way with both women scoring one-twos, but down the stretch, Terry beats Cindy to the cross, bashing face and leaving Crawford stunned momentarily. Farrell stepping back with a hurt Crawford draped all over her, nailing the swooning supermodel with a crisp little left uppercut inside.
R9: Cindy slowing things down, doesn’t like the slugging, and up on her ties, she regains control with the stick. Farrell just can’t get off--following Cindy to the corners, getting touched up, then turned as Crawford spins off the ropes.
R10: Shutout Cindy Crawford, CC taking no nchances--she’s got the better legs in this fight an she uses them, circling non-stop--slapping and winging her jab, only occasionally stepping in with it--Farrell turning and turning never gets off as scattered booing greets the evasive genius of Crawford. At the end, a happy, sweating Cindy c all smiles, gives Terry a big hug and lifts her mitts to strut the ring. Come back UD10, Farrell shaking her head in disappointment really doesn’t know what happened.
After: Crawford boxes her way to a pretty wide margin in this one, Terry competitive, but losing a lot of rounds due to hypnosis more than anything else. Cindy a very difficult big woman to lay chess with, Farrell doing better in the wilder exchanges, but unable to impose that kid of structure ion the fight. Crawford waxing eloquent in post fight again, damning Peta Wilson to the far corners of her empire, setting her sights once again on a catch weight but with Theron at welter--all boxing settles in for the long hard winter iof Cindy’s reign as insiders guess she’ll e favoring the patsy route to glory this time.
