Before: Diaz waging psychological warfare before the bout, sneaking into Theron’s training camps, ambushing Theron press conferences, constantly needling the champ and taunting her with that sexy grin. Speculation rampant for this bout: Diaz on a roll and she’s on she’s one of the premiere boxers, but she’s had trouble with punchers, and Theron can both give and take a punch. On the other hand, Theron has struggled in her last couple of outtings, and hasn’t looked as dominant. Still, Charlize is posted a nominal favourite, in what is essentially a pick’em battle.l Diaz in pale blue bra and panties, Charlize in white string bikini.

R1: Diaz on her toes, lets Charlize force the fight, and Theron walks into a sneaky lead right hand that pops her mouth guard out to open the fight. Theron shaking her head, goes on to walk into clipping/swatting combinations as Diaz plays will o’the wisp the rest of the way, Diaz breaking into that smile early, walks Charlize back to her corner, taunting the champ until the ref intervenes.

R2: Charlize coolly cuts off the ring this round, showing Diaz surprising footwork of her own. Charlize spearing at Diaz ribs wit the Rijker straight right hand, then straightening to drop the clipping left hook forget-me-not on Cameron’s chin. Cam doesn’t like the body shots, and her legs get heavy by the midway point, allowing Charlize to square up and punch with leverage. Theron dipping her shoulders, twisting her hips into snapping left hooks, slips and counters a lazy bright from Diaz to put Cameron on her backside in a heartbeat. Diaz takes 8, bouncing up and down to get feeling in her legs--then Charlize grimly walks her down. All Theron as she presses her forearm against Diaz before ripping the one-two to the body, fists bouncing hard off taut muscle and hard ribcage as Cameron wilts, Theron pushing and punching, bobbing up and down into punches, and Diaz can’t take it, finally folding to all fours from accumulated punishment. Final minute sees Cameron desperately rope-a-doping, leaning waaay back into the topes away from the searing Theron hook,  but taking Charlize right hands clean to the midriff at the bell.

R3: Diaz boxing smartly this round, but Theron right with her for much of the time as the girls trade jabs, try for crosses fro  outside, in the final minute, Diaz leans back, catches Theron lunging, and counters with a delicious catspaw left behind the ear. Charlize spills sideways, equilibrium shot, and Diaz puts together a classy flurry to bust the champ up as she sits on the ropes. After the bell, Diaz shoves Theron up against the ropes and tells er “it’s all over baby!” prompting referee intervention.

R4: Theron stalking, cutting off the ring, but Diaz a hair quicker this round. Cameron able to circle, now steering Charlize with the jab, picking her spots to slice in with the accurate right hand to the face. Theron reduced to pivoting, face getting spanked by Diaz’ pesky punching, and Charlize can’t get off.

R5: Theron wades in, trying to get back to Diaz’s slender midsection, but Cameron fighting in retreat, picks her up with slashing combinations. Theron visibly wilting as she steps forward, bending at the waist, covering up, but getting bathed by Diaz slick, slashing, whipping combinations, Cameron clipping up underneath Charlize chin with the quick left, and bashing down on Theron’s face with the chopping right--Theron is badly battered in the opening minute, and her legs look shot. In the second minute, Diaz actually steps it up, seeing the hurt and confusion in Charlize eyes. Fists now crash down on Theron, connecting with knuckle, wrist and palm as Cameron steps back, luring Theron forward into punishment. Charlize going wobbly butt, reaching for her foe and getting pounded into a daze. Diaz on her toes, bouncing backward, nails Charlize a stunning one-two on the lips, and Theron rocks forward, then straightens up, clearly hurt. Cameron reloads, smacking Charlize head to the side with that left on the jaw, then spanking it straight back with the right cross on the face, and Theron crumbles, forward. Diaz spinning in her lead foot, clips Theron on the back of the head with a nuisance hook as Charlize pitches face first to the ropes, then crumbles to the canvas. Charlize desperately hurt, gets to her feet at 10, but the ref has seen enough. Fight is stopped and Diaz lifts Charlize’s title in spectacular fashion.

After: Wasn’t all flash as Diaz had to pick herself up off the canvas to put the hurt in the champ, but this was vintage Cameron D. Theron very sharp in the second, but looked sluggish and outclassed much of the fight, simply took too many punches in the 5th to continue, Cameron. Cameron surprises the experts by putting on a fireworks display, landing power shots in almost every round, and doing very little clowning in this short, destructive affair. Diaz badly damaging both fists in the decisive extended flurrying, still giddy with victory, and promises to dominate her peers with an “iron hand” from this point on.
