Boxing After Dark

Before: Grudge match results from argument over “Law and Order” backstage gossip. Harmon claims she battered Lowell during role-bids offer from the producer to take the job, Carey insists the bout never took place, saying she left the show to pursue other creative directions. Fight gets a nice Boxing After Dark audience of rabid LAO fans in addition to the usual crowd. Angie in white aerobics two piece, hair back, Carey in light blue jockey cotton two piece.

During R1: Lowell lanky, and fights with the orthodox straight up jab and cross routine. Angie lanky, but pushing and swiping her punches ala Wayne McCullough, comes out the aggressor. Carey able to lean back and walk Angie onto looping uppercuts to the chest and face, then pivot to the right to open up a sweet angle for the hook. Harmon getting wrong-footed as Carey racks up points.

R2,3: Angie pressure starts to tell as Carey gets overwhelmed from the sheer volume. Double and triple jabbing with a little peck from the elbow. Angie forces Carey to the ropes, then whips the right hand in sidearm to begin chugging lefts and rights as she bashes away. Lowell covering up, pushing Angie back but unable to get distance, and Harmon eagerly walks back in to pepper her fellow brunette with chopping blows. Angie scores an unintentional elbow to the mouth late in the third--Carey swoons, hunching forward, and soaking up thudding left and right uppercuts to her torso at the bell, Lowell shaken by the heavy-handed assault as Harmon bodies up to make eye contact until referee intervention.

R4: Carey using those long legs to step around Harmon, and she’s out jabbing Angie this round to set up hard right crosses on those dark brown eyes. Harmon getting knocked off stride as Carey leans her limber body into the right hands, and Angie in retreat isn’t nearly as effective. Carey stalking, able to bring the jab off her hip to spank Angie’s lip or eye at will, slip Harmon’s earnest, but pedestrian right, and comes back with whip action hooks to the brunette;s ribcage. Angie wincing at the bell as Lowell nods en route to her corner.

R5: Harmon out with a vengeance, uses that little flicking jab to get Carey backing up, and a gorgeous over-committed right hand on the face sprawls Lowell to the ropes. Angie sees the blank expression and open mouth, and goes to work, slicing Carey  up with the wide left hook. Flicking backhand jab, then in with the crunching right hand on the mouth as Lowell reels. Carey hurting, catching many many punches on her shiny face AND THE REF JUMPS IN!!! Lowell in a daze as Harmon leaps for joy--TKO5 Angie Harmon.

After: “It was easier the second time around,” quotes Angie as the winner gets to write the history. Lowell bitter in defeat continues to deny that she’s 0-2 against Harmon, but the decisive finish weighs against her, Angie not known as a puncher, simply out too much leather on target for Carey to cope with--Lowell listless, soaking up shots, gave the ref no choice.
