BEFORE:
"I'm not taking Jennifer lightly at all," says Gemma. "She hasn't fought a lot in the FCBA, but she's only lost once...and that was to Righetti. She beat Nichols. If she beat Nichols, she can beat me. She's not going to, mind. But she can."
"Sure, I'm the underdog," says a smiling Jennifer. "I'm the underdog in almost every fight. But I've surprised some girls in the past. And I think Gemma's in for a surprise tonight."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside now. Want to thank Miley Cyrus for her help in the last bout, and joining me now is the owner of Lookout! Boxing herself, Paris Hilton! Paris, thanks for joining us tonight."
Paris: "My pleasure, Jennifer. Anything for my good friend, Wiz."
O'Dell: "And what's your take on this upcoming lightweight battle?"
Paris: "You have to like Gemma, here. But, this is no turkey shoot. Finnigan's a good boxer. She'll be a challenge for Gemma, I think."
O'Dell: "Well, Paris, this one was a bit before your time, but, interesting choice of music for Finnigan..."
Paris: "What IS that?"
O'Dell: "That's a band called Romeo Void, and the song is appropriate. It's called 'Never Say Never'!"
Paris: "Finnigan into the ring now...Nice bikini! Gold and green. I've got to have one of those made..."
O'Dell: "And we all know THAT song. That's 'London Calling' and that means The Gravesend Gladiator is on her way to the ring!"
Paris: "What's the deal with all the black bikinis tonight?"
O'Dell: "Not sure, but Gemma's sure rocking that one!"
Paris: "I kind of like a bit more color in my swimwear. I've got to give Wiz some fashion advice..."
O'Dell: "If there's anyone on the PLANET who could use that, it's Wiz. And there's the bell. Round one underway. Arterton forward, stalking Finnigan. The blonde a pure boxer, a lot like Helfer, more rigid, but with the same gameplan. Snapping out jabs, wants distance. Arterton can play that game, but the brunette likes the inside work, too, and that's where she's looking to go. Finnigan lands a left, but Gemma keeps coming, lands a hook to the belly and snaps a left to the chin as Jennifer circles away."
Paris: "Finnigan's not keeping Gemma off. Arterton just walking through that jab, crowding the blonde."
O'Dell: "That's clearly the brunette's plan. Relentless pressure. Hooking to the body, snapping a straight right between Jennifer's gloves. Finnigan a flurry, but Gemma deflects a couple, takes the rest, keeps coming, cutting off the ring, closing in, banging home heavy leather to the body. Good right hand, Gemma! That one stung the blonde!"
Paris: "Finnigan wobbled just a second, but covered up and ducked away. Gemma on her again. Straight left snaps back Finnigan's head. Jennifer trapped on the ropes!"
O'Dell: "Gemma digging hooks to the body, bringing down the guard...right cross to the side of the head and down goes Jennifer! Finnigan pulling herself up on the ropes at five. Referee begins the eight count but there's the bell. That's the end of the first. Big round for Gemma Arterton!"
Paris: "Check the replay on the right hand, Jennifer. Watch Gemma bang a left hook to the kidney here. Finnigan leans down, dropping her elbows to protect the body, and Gemma rips the right hand over the left glove. Nicely done."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Back to live action in round two and Arterton quickly back to the hunt. Finnigan seems to have recovered nicely from the knockdown, back on her toes, moving and jabbing, looking to find space for a right hand, but Gemma closing, banging to the body. Nice hooks to the ribs and kidneys. Finnigan works her way back to open canvas, lands a left jab. Gemma walks through, bangs leather to the midsection, sends Jennifer circling away."
Paris: "Finnigan's got to find a way to slow Gemma down here. If Arterton can walk through her punches..."
O'Dell: "And that's just what Gemma's doing, willing to eat a jab to slam home a hook to the flank. Works Finnigan back to the ropes, hammers away downstairs. Jennifer landing up top, but Gemma bunching her up with tummy work. Jennifer slips away, back to the center, but Gemma's relentless here."
Paris: "Arterton's really controlling this thing. Jennifer can't get space. Gemma's in her shorts."
O'Dell: "And she's working that belly, spanking leather home as the bell rings ending round two, and it's another good one for Arterton."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Into the third now and Gemma right back to the attack. Boring forward, walking through jabs, working the body with heavy leather."
Paris: "Got to be getting demoralizing for Jennifer. She just can't keep Gemma off."
O'Dell: "Finnigan lands a good combination there. Scoring nicely, but Gemma keeping the pressure on. Banging away to the midsection. Cuts off the ring, lands a stinging left jab to the head, right hook to the body. Finnigan doubles up on the jab, slips away, but Gemma's right back on her. Jabbing with the left, forcing Jennifer back, working the right to the ribs."
Paris: "Jennifer's midsection starting to get awfully red."
O'Dell: "And Gemma looking to brighten that shade up a bit, forcing Finnigan back to the ropes, working those ribs. Jennifer tying up, landing a hook to the ribs of her own, trying to slip free. Referee breaks. Gemma in behind a nice jab, bangs home another to the ribs, and there's the bell. Arterton in control after three."
Paris: "Gemma starting to break Finnigan down here, Jennifer. Really wearing her out to the body."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Back in action now, round four, and Jennifer is back on her toes, circling and jabbing, landing the left as Arterton works her way forward, cutting off the ring, working again to the body and..."
Paris: "GEMMA'S HURT! Right uppercut from Finnigan caught Arterton flush!"
O'Dell: "Gemma covering up as Jennifer goes to work, banging away at the gloves of the brunette, driving her back across the ring into the ropes. Sniper stuff now for the blonde. Arterton covering up, moving the head, but Finnigan sticking that jab home, finding spots for the right hand. Gemma trying to clinch, but Finnigan punching free, slamming a hook to the kidney then a hard right hand that split Gemma's gloves. Arterton tying up, now banging to the body in close. Jennifer circling away. Gemma not chasing now. The blonde scoring with the jab, she's got her distance and she's using it to effect. Arterton getting her legs back somewhat. Snapping out a jab of her own. Finnigan fires back, landing a left-right. And there's the bell. Best round of the fight for Finnigan, Paris!"
Paris: "No question. Check out the replay and see what Jennifer does here. Arterton's been walking through that jab all day, so Finnigan snaps it wide and high. Gemma pulls her head down and to her left to avoid the punch, and Finnigan rings her up with a short uppercut! Best punch of the fight so far. Almost put Gemma down!"
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Back to live action now as round five is underway. Finnigan looking to work outside again, but Gemma's right back to the pressure! Jennifer jabbing, circling, but Arterton again walking through, banging to the body. Good left hook under the right elbow from Gemma. Finnigan trying t slide away, get some space, but Gemma's crowding, working downstairs, banging that reddening midsection..."
Paris: "Has to be frustrating for Jennifer. Landed that big punch last round and thought it would buy her some respect, but it's not working out that way..."
O'Dell: "It most certainly is not. Jennifer trying to jab and move, her, but Gemma cutting off the ring, driving her back into the ropes, going to work with the heavy leather. Finnigan tying up. Gemma punching free. The blonde finally able to slip away to her right, but Gemma's right back in close, snapping to left jabs to the chin, then slamming the right hook to the kidney as the bell rings ending round five. Shutout for Gemma."
Paris: "Sure was. Showed no ill effects from the big punch last round. We're halfway home and Arterton's got a nice lead. I have it 49-45."

Arterton/Finngan Part 2

ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "If Jennifer's going to rally, now would be a good time to start. She's back on her toes jabbing and circling, but Gemma's not playing that little game. The brunette boring in, walking through those jabs, getting in close, working that tummy."
Paris: "Arterton wants to kill those legs, no question about it. Thinks if she does that, she can take Jennifer out of here..."
O'Dell: "And she's probably right about that, the way Gemma can hit. Finnigan tying Arterton up around the head, trying to get a break and she does. Snaps a jab into the brunette's face. Gemma catches a right hand follow on her glove, slams her own right to the ribs, hooks with the left to the side of the head, sending Finnigan's ponytail flying. Jennifer legs away, but Gemma won't let her breathe. Backs hert into the ropes, lands downstairs with a pair of hooks. Grimace on Finnigan's face as she ties up and the round comes to an end."
Paris: "Finnigan's got to find a way to get some space here. Gemma's just grinding her down right now."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "The seventh now underway, and we've seen this play before. Finnigan trying to circle and jab, looking for space to set up some right hands, Gemma pressuring, going to the body, right in the blonde's face."
Paris: "I've got to say, I'm impressed with Arterton. If I didn't have two superior lights in Vonnie and Missy, I might have to talk trade with my buddy Wiz!"
O'Dell: "Arterton forcing Finnigan back, closing, cutting off the ring. Jennifer working that jab, trying to find space, making Gemma move the head..."
Paris: "UPPERCUT! DOWN GOES GEMMA!"
O'Dell: "Arterton hurt by that same right uppercut. Went right to her glutes. Shaking her head now and up at five. Taking the eight. Clearly surprised at Finnigan's power there. Referee waives Jennifer forward and she goes to work. Using the jab, snapping back Gemma's head, circling and turning the brunette. Good right hand to the head stung Gemma! Finnigan doubling up on the jab, sending Arterton backward. Another good right! Arterton still wobbly. Finnigan picking her apart here. Scintillating stuff. Round seven comes to an end, and Jennifer Finnigan is back in the fight!"
Paris: "Check the replay here of how Finnigan sets this up a second time. Watch her backing up and snapping that jab. Making Gemma drop the head to avoid taking it right on the nose and...BOOM! There's the uppercut. Punch coming up as Gemma's head goes down. Slick."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Back to live action, round eight, and we're seeing a more cautious Gemma Arterton. She's trying to work her way forward now, not just walking in. Finnigan's got some room finally and she's using it to good effect, snapping the left jab, landing effectively, using the legs to avoid Gemma, slowing her with the jab, setting her up for well-placed right hands."
Paris: "Know that respect Jennifer was looking for? She's gotten it with that knockdown."
O'Dell: "Looks that way, and she's frustrating Arterton for the first time, sticking with that left hand, circling right, then left, got Gemma on the wrong foot and off balance, lands a solid right hand. Arterton trying to work forward but not finding the blonde."
Paris: "This is good stuff from Finnigan. Quick hands. Good legs. Gemma's not getting off at all."
O'Dell: "Finnigan with a nice three-punch combination to the head there. Slows Gemma down. Jennifer circles away, snapping hard jabs, circles back left, sticks the left, hooks to the side of the head with a right. This is a clinic! And the bell ends it. Super round for Finnigan."
Paris: "Checking my scorecard here and I've got this 76-74 Arterton. Might be a little too close for Gemma's comfort."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "We're into the ninth now, and Finnigan is back on her toes, lands a left, another, a third. Arterton short with a right. Jennifer circles away. Stops. Pops. Lands a two-punch combination to the head, slips away from a counter..."
Paris: "Finnigan's taken control of this fight over the last couple of rounds."
O'Dell: "She certainly has. Gemma trying to close, but being preempted. Good straight right by Finnigan. Jennifer standing her ground now as Gemma moves in. Arterton with a hard right to the head. Finnigan fires back with a left-right to the face. Gemma goes downstairs, lands a hook to the kidney, left jab to the head. Jennifer a flurry! A couple of those landed flush. The two fighters trading now! Arterton with a hard right to the head again! Finnigan goes to the body with a left hook, follows up with a right hook to the side of the head... Gemma lands a left, bangs a right hook to the midsection. Finnigan doubles up on the jab. Gemma lands a good left hook. Follow up right by Arterton!"
Paris: "Finnigan's hurt! That right hand hurt Jennifer!"
O'Dell: "Gemma knows it! She's all in, letting her hands go! Finnigan wobbles by a left hand! Gemma buries a right in the tummy! Finnigan covering up. Gemma sticks a left between the gloves...RIGHT HOOK, GEMMA! DOWN GOES FINNIGAN!"
Paris: "That was a wicked right hand..."
O'Dell: "Jennifer down on her belly! Rolls to her back at seven! She's not getting up! This one is OVER! KO9 Gemma Arterton!"
Paris: "Here's the replay of that last flurry, and there's the hard left jab between the gloves, snap's Jennifer's head back, right into range of Gemma's right hook, which goes behind Finnigan's left glove and lands on the chin. Big punch!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring, where Tess Valmore has our winner, Gemma Arterton!"
Tess: "Gemma, surprised at all by how competitive Jennifer was?"
Gemma: "Not at all. Like I said pre-fight, I knew she could fight. She just hasn't gotten a lot of opportunities in the FCBA. I was surprised a little by her power, but I knew she was good. In fact, she's as good a boxer as I've fought. As good as Lively or Kurylenko. Better than Zeta-Jones. She was a good test. But not one I couldn't pass." |
