Before: Ryan being carefully moved for the first time in her career, takes on perennial contender Williams as the latter looks to play spoiler. Vanessa still the quicker girl, better defensively, but pundits wonder whether she still has the legs to keep a puncher like Ryan off balance for 10. Ryan in red bikini, black gloves, Williams in pale blue bikini, white gloves, long blonde ponytail.

During R1: Williams circling, stepping in off her jab to splatter-punch Ryan with rights and lefts in the waist and on the jaw, weaving back outside to keep the blonde's feet moving. Jeri walking through it, elbows in, hands up, just pumping out the stick, whittling down the ring. Vanessa too classy this round, uses the ring, outworks Ryan with punches in bunches, doesn't stick around to trade as the blonde can't get off.

R2: Ryan keeps marching forward, ignoring Vanessa's punches and tracking Williams better with a stamping jab to the upper chest. Vanessa steered to a corner where she closes up her stance, right hand at her cheek, left hand low, looking to counter. Ryan keeping Vanessa under control with that thumping stick, suddenly turns over a hook inside Williams' high right mittl, stunning her and leaving her vulnerable for a whistling right hand on the chops. Lights out Williams! punch snaps Van's head around--she slumps into the ropes, hands in her lap--Ryan standing tall, refusing to throw any more as Williams lolls out on her feet. Ref steps in--KO2 Jeri Ryan.

After: Pulverizing performance for Ryan, on the heels of her Casta demolition makes the blonde the nw KO queen for the nonce. "I've always been able to punch,: says Ryan, "I've just never had the opportunity to showcase before. When I'm right, there's not a lightweight out there who can take my heat." Williams in shock upon recovery, mumbling about retirement for the first time in her career. "Jeri Ryan couldn't have carried my bikini bottoms in my prime," says an embittered ex-champ, "to lose like that to her...it makes you wonder."
