At welterweight we have the current ‘b###h’ on the Street, Catherine against the former ‘b###h’ Suranne, and the younger Catherine is confident of extending her winning streak against a girl she has described as ‘past it’.

The girls enter the ring at pretty much the same time, Catherine in a red one piece, with Suranne in a black bikini – Catherine looks bigger and heavier than Suranne, who has slimmed down since her Coronation Street days.

Round 1

Neither girl seems to want to take the initiative at first, not wanting to make a mistake, and it’s fairly slow going for the first half of the round. Catherine begins to look the keener girl in the second half of the round, and she lands a few pretty solid punches to Suranne’s face which has the older girl holding and clinging. Pushing her back, Catherine then gets her to the body, but gets caught on the counter attack, and she’s the one on the ropes at the close.

Round 2

More of the same in the early exchanges, with both girls content to wait for the other to make a mistake, and Suranne is the girl looking more frisky by the midpoint, confident she can take the blonde on with her ranging hooks. This plays into Catherine’s hands slightly, and she looks the better boxer when she bumps Suranne’s head back with a couple of firm jabs, before rocking her with a booming right uppercut. Suranne stumbles backwards messily, her knees quake, and she goes down, sitting on her butt and looking around her, dazed, getting to her feet at 6, but then she gets hurt with a lovely left hook to the mouth, and almost goes down again before the bell.

Round 3

Suranne’s bleeding from the mouth after that battering, and she soon finds Catherine back in her face, popping her head back with more textbook jabbing. Suranne needs to drag this fight down, and she starts to frustrate the blonde with defensive tactics, grabbing her, holding, clinching, roughing her up around the body, pushing her off and hitting her before she can gather her thoughts – the blonde is taking more punishment than she gives out as the round progresses, her inexperience showing.

Round 4

Again Suranne ties Catherine up at close quarters, now landing her mixed bag of hooks to the big blonde’s body, the girl beginning to slow down to a standstill as the leaner brunette gets into her, hurting her with those bodyshots, then for the first time landing to the head, stunning Catherine with two left hooks to the ear, looking to land a big right, but the girl’s defence holds out, and, even though she takes a pummelling on the ropes in the final seconds, Catherine never looks like going down.

Round 5

Suranne starts the round well, once again cracking some nice punches into Catherine’s ribcage, and she has her girl on the ropes midway through the round, confident that she won’t have the ringcraft to box her way out. She’s right, too, and Catherine soaks up plenty more blows to her ample body before fighting back, and fighting back hard, landing left, right, left to the brunette’s face, and the older Suranne begins to look weary as she gets sent backwards, the blood beginning to fly as her mouth takes the brunt of another combination from Catherine who is looking the stronger of the pair now.

Round 6

Suranne is definitely weakening by now, and Catherine switches her attack to the body, hurting the older girl with some heavy punches, taking the breath out of her, bringing that guard down, then freeing up her face – and smack, smack – Catherine flicks the jabs into Suranne’s face, the older girl again teetering back on her heels, and she gets floored again with a right hook which whips across her face, glancing off her jaw, but she’s made enough contact to sit Suranne down for a 7 count. Catherine continues to pick Suranne off, not quite able to finish the job as she begins to run short on energy herself, and the round ends with the girls leaning against one another, looking tired.

Round 7

Who can last longer? Suranne is really showing little aggression in this round, and this enables Catherine to cuff her around the face quite easily, then she hurts the brunette with a sickening right to the belly, and Suranne slumps to the canvas, on her knees, hauling herself up at 8, a gasping wreck, saved from taking any more punishment by a sympathetic referee.

A triumphant Catherine jumps up and down in the ring, proclaiming, “I told you Jones was past it! Time for you to pack it in, old girl! Before everyone treats you like a jobber!”
