“I want to beat Charlize Theron before I’m forty,: Soto told reporters before this fight--her reason for returning to the bring after nearly two years in absentia. “I’ve been a champion, I’ve been acclaimed as the sultriest brunette in boxing (‘89.’90, and ‘94)--there’s nothing left for me to prove aside from conquering the finest blonde of my generation.” To get rounds, Soto selected brash newcomer Amie, best known in Britain for keeping the blondes of “Footballers’ Wives” down in stirring brawls--but like Talisa--Susie had higher ambitions. “When I see what a cheap floozy like Kelly Brook has done,” Amie groused to The Sun, “or even a witless hag like Elizabeth Hurley, I know I can have the same level--if not more--success overseas as they.”  So two ambitious brunettes fought before an exclusive crows of some 60 or 70 tuxedo’d and begowned luminaries in luxurious surroundings--a classic confrontation of cougar and cub.

In the beginning, and for much the night, Talisa showed few signs of rust as she dished out a sobering boxing lesson to her fresh-faced foe. Attacking behind a strong jab, batting body shots and tidy hooks to the chin, Talisa constantly pressed Amie to convenient walls or doors, beating the British beauty with a steady rhythm, and constantly falling in to muscle her in bruising clinches. Amie went down in the first to an electric hook off her chin, would be shook again in the fourth and systematically outfought in the midrounds as Soto strung classy minutes together in relentless sequence.

But in the end, this would be a night for youthful vigor and irrepressible stamina. The effervescent Amie would be mesmerized, refused to succumb to the punishment and down the stretch, she was standing and trading, even backing Soto up in shattering exchanges that saw the older woman visibly deteriorate. With Susie surging strong  in the tenth, Soto’s legs just didn’t have any more to give--she would hit cold floor with the sharp sound of wet beef on marble twice before succumbing to a numbing barrage up against an ornate closed door--Amie lathering in hooks and uppercuts with youthful gusto for a devastating KO win. Hard rounds for Soto, who dismissed the loss as wages for a long lay off, but one has to wonder if this beautiful brunette’s moment has passed.
