Before: "Erica's gotten more ink from you clowns in 6 months than I've gotten my whole career," Bridges lambastes collected media in prefight. "That's the way it's always been - I'm pound for pound maybe the best fighter in boxing and I'm not even RANKED! Jenny O'Dell retires Debbe Dunning and you guys throw her a ticker tape parade: I end Stacy Kamano's career and I can't get arrested. Let me ask you geniuses something: when was the last time you saw me lose a fight? When was the last time you even saw me get HURT in a fight? I'm going to take this smoke-and-mirrors brunette APART, okay? Maybe when I stretch Erica out I'll get a little respect around here."
Durance taking the high road, refusing to bait or goad her combustible opponent. "A lot of what Angelica is saying is true - she HAS been overlooked. But people know she's a tough out, and they know this is a ballsy move by my management team and me. I want to prove I'm more than just a flash in the pan, and at lightweight, you do that by beating Angelica Bridges."
Bridges in green crochet bikini, Erica in shades-of-blue setting sun motif bikini, punching ponytail.
During R1: Erica uptempo, brisk, sharp, attacking Bridges all around the ring. Spitting jab and a hard right cross from Durance. Thudding mop up hooks in Bridges' ribs. Torrid combinations toe-to-toe - Durance's fists drumming a tune up and down Angie's torso. Bridges on her heels, backpedalling, trying to impose order - Erica hounding her girl bell to bell, putting mitts on meat and simply outhustling Angelica this round.
R2: Spiteful, meanspirited jab from Angie - she POUNDS away stick to bring Erica to heel. Durance tasting tart leather on her brows and mouth, forced out to arm's length - she's lifting her dukes, parrying, bending at the waist, but she's no longer making the fight. Angie's turn to step Durance down, jab paving the way for sizzling rights - Durance doing a good job of wheeling away from redhead cross and stepping to open canvas. Return-of-serve shutout Angie B: hard looks of mutual respect as girls make eye contact, sizing one another up after 6 taut minutes.
R3: Erica right hand nice and high, attempting to jab her way in through the front door: Bridges meeting her stick for stick and getting the better of it. Angie outboxing Erica as girls rotate clockwise midring - redhead gradually forcing Durance to the perimeter, walking her down behind that merciless rangefinder. Erica moving her head well, seeing Angie's right hand and slipping, blocking or rolling with it - Bridges in charge but not landing the payoff punch the way she wants.
R4: Erica slide-stepping back, baiting Angie forward, timing chop-right hand counters over the jab as Bridges is forced to cover up. Durance over to offence takes the fight immediately to Bridges' ribcage via snapping hook: Erica pounding fist off flank, bringing the mitt back quick to her ready position. Durance stepping right, forcing counterclockwise footwork on Bridges: Angie slightly less comfortable, not getting off as a result. Erica showing her handspeed in combination, working her way up and down Angie's flanks, scoring to either jaw line crisp. Bridges weathering chin checks without flinching, but Durance has found something: combo punching at close range tends to make Angie wait her turn.
R5: Erica getting good corner advice - more combinations, more counterclockwise lateral movement, more in-and-out attacking advised. Bridges dukes up at temples, chin tucked - turning midring, blocking, but her output drops to zero - Erica dictating with precocious feet, blistering fists. Durance' eyes alight, lips set firm in concentration - she's banging out that jab, stepping right, swiping in the right upside Bridges' head, hooking her behind the elbow. Draining attrition applied - Durance stepping, getting in to get off, pivoting out at an angle - all free of charge. Final moments - Bridges showing her first signs of wear: batting right/left on her waist buckles redhead slightly - Durance clips the tight left uppercut to chin to put Angie wobbly butt at the bell.
R6: Erica pressing the pace, pushing Angie downhill - Bridges sullen as she's forced to the ropes, tentative, trying to punch back from her high guard. Durance abrupt, snappy with her punches: leaning in forehead on forehead with Bridges to rip up her waist either hand; dropping the right foot back to pull serious hooks around Bridges' forward guard; setting down on short, hacking right hands on chin, swivelling Angelica's head, sending sweat flying. Bridges brave, but getting touched UP - she's gritting her teeth, holding her hands up rigid, trying to chop short counters back at Durance' head. Dying moments, Durance lighting it up with a brisk combination suddenly hops to her right, hooks Angie's left eye from outside redhead's left shoulder - Bridges swoons into the ropes, now bending far forward in confusion and hurt at the bell.
R7: Bridges ashen faced, rickety off her stool: she's not a confident girl at this point. Durance the polar opposite, strong across the ring, but responsible - she sells like she's coming in brazen, lays up instead, pots the jab/right hand as Bridges crouches forward behind her guard. Durance right hand at her temple as she carves tight, tight left uppercuts to Angie's breasts and face, getting the redhead leaning back into the ropes where searing right crosses can pierce her guard. Angie stooping forward, leaning back, falling apart - it's all too much. Erica blazing away: legs set strong, muscular lefts and rights shellacked onto the target - poor Angie's just wilting into the ropes, face in her gloves as hard fists belt against head, shoulders, ribs. Collapse is slow, heartbreaking - Bridges easing to her knees under the pounding assault, panting on all fours as a huffing, puffing Durance is pushed back. ANGELICA QUITS! Bridges badly beaten, throbbing bodied, can't get off her haunches - it's KO7 Erica Durance!
After: Durance through with a shout - gut-check type fight sees a return to form as Erica pours on class and physicality in equal measure. Bridges simply battered - too much Erica tonight: bitter pill for proud Angie to swallow as Durance lives up to the hype.
"I haven't felt this 'on' since Jennifer Garner," beams Erica in postfight, white towel behind her neck. "Angie's everything they said she'd be. She managed my handspeed initially with her jab - I trumped her jab with my footwork and in the end I think I was a little too athletic for her. I'm so thrilled to have stopped her too - I can't tell you! Not many people step to Angelica Bridges and beat her down - I'm really proud of this accomplishment tonight."
