Before: "It's all about Jessica Biel," Charisma says with a smile. "Beat Amanda; get Jessica. I know Jessica's wary of me - she wouldn't make me jump through hoops if she thought she could handle me - that just makes me want to fight her all the more. When people see that I can still turn a girl like Biel inside out, they'll realize that I'm nowhere near the end of my road!" Righetti respectful of Carpenter in pre-fight events, demure - but resolute - at the podium. "You'd think Charisma would know better than to look past an opponent to a future fight," Righetti shrugs. "It's my job to make her pay for that. I don't mind covering Jessica's flank one bit if it gets me fights: hopefully Charisma's just the first of many girls to take the bait!" Charisma in black Veronica Mars bikini; black gloves; hair loose/tangly. Righetti in midnight blue bikini; auburn hair in tight slugger's bun; white gloves.
During R1: Carpenter showing closed stance midring: left shoulder pointed at Amanda; chin tucked; left across gut; right under chin; weight on right (back) foot. Amanda rangier - weight on front (left) foot; hands up, out, widely spaced as she tilts forward in springing position. Rising, batting left hook Amanda - startling CC to face; short, chopping right Amanda, clipping CC to left temple; follow up chopping right to CC's cheek; rangy left uppercut, scraping left side of CC's face as she reels backward wide eyed. Middle minute - CC fights a series of shrewd, slip-and-counter engagements, nipping at Amanda's ribcage and retreating from her as Righetti comes forward. Amanda adjusts late - pumping the jab at CC's left shoulder, forcing Carpenter to bob on the spot - then leaning in with rangy right hands over the top. Righetti's round: Carpenter getting a dose of Amanda's rangy, crisp, athletic delivery in the first.
R2: Similar opening positions: Carpenter in closed stance, bending at the waist - looking to roll-and-counter inside. Amanda more upright, hands up and out, feet wide apart, weight on that sleek left leg. Righetti leading with rising left hooks, then chopping down right hands: nice whippy, batting action as she seeks Carpenter's head. CC bobbing and rolling, parrying shots with left shoulder - answering back right uppercuts to Righetti's midsection on occasion. Amanda the busier, bossier girl: Carpenter fighting cagey - snatching back quick and hard enough to keep Amanda wary.
R3:The ol' mongoose Carpenter...creep steppin' to her right, rolling shots with her right shoulder...she walks Amanda in, turns on a screened right hand blunt n' short to chin: RIGHETTI SCOOTS TO HER BUTT! Ringing poke has Amanda sitting up, blinking, mouth open in shock. Carpenter briskly to neutral corner - rolling her head on her neck, bouncing on the spot as Amanda's quickly up. Resume: Carpenter quickly to the attack - swinging right and left roundhouses to Amanda's ribcage. Righetti forming earmuff - beaten loudly to her torso along the apron: she's sponges it up well, answers with left uppercuts and hooks to Carpenter's breasts to back CC off. Down the stretch, Amanda's shaken off the poke that put her down: she's coming forward, working behind the jab, walking CC down as Carpenter pockets points.
R4: Good follow up from Carpenter. She fades Righetti's early pressure - luring younger woman to ropes, countering viciously off the apron with either hand to Amanda's ribcage. Smarting, wincing - Amanda backs off; Carpenter forward, spitting jabs at Amanda's face to set up driving rights/hooking lefts to midsection. Good thumping work from CC on offence: on defence, she's luring Amanda forward, making Righetti pay for any aggression with savage counterpunching to the body.
R5: Righetti's springy punching off that left leg - the rising hooks; the downward-chopping rights - has CC defensive. Carpenter rolling harm well, but starting to get punched off her stance and forced to retreat. When Carpenter looks to roll-and-counter - Amanda reads it well, hanging back and pumping jabs instead of walking into trouble. Carpenter tries luring Amanda to ropes: Righetti doing a good job jabbing CC's body and chest, putting her on the defensive, then clipping her hard power punches in the vertical plane. Down the stretch - series of ringing left uppercuts to Carpenter's body has her slumping into ropes: Righetti really popping hips, torquing into some gorgeous shots at the bell.
R6: Righetti having tremendous success hitting CC when the two face off midring - Carpenter unusually available to Amanda's sudden, rangy up/down punching. Righetti on her left leg, often feinting with one hand and bringing the other: she's got CC guessing, routinely hooking Carpenter up out of her stance, then clipping her clean-up rights to face. Carpenter frequently staggered - forced to regroup elsewhere: Righetti stepping-to, using her jab to range-in, then crossing Carpenter's defenses up. Righetti also enjoying success to Charisma's mouthwatering rack - hooking it at will, cleaning up on it, owning it. At times, Righetti will palm up on and push CC off - Carpenter normally sturdy, having trouble standing ground when Amanda wants to come forward. CC's chin sturdy - she takes several electrifying whacks throughout round - buttocks set to wobbling, but legs holding her up. Bell: Righetti smirking as she turn away; she's just shut Carpenter out to the tune of 10-8 without the knockdown.
R7: Back to back shutouts, Righetti. Carpenter lumping up - bobbing on the spot, but getting clipped: she's just not reading Amanda's delivery. Righetti weight forward, right foot up on the big toe, hands up and out - she's always poised to punch with either hand, strapping and batting. Clean touches to Carpenter's face usually so rare: Amanda scoring regularly, often spankingly so. Tech corner so pleased during the break, they give Righetti the green light: "Take her out if you get the chance - she's ready!"
R8: OH, THAT CRAFTY CHARISMA! Midway through, CC under pressure, sliding to her right: she manages to get Righetti to reach a right hand, answering with a gorgeous roll-and-counter right uppercut to chin. Amanda soundly struck - stumbling around in panicky earmuff as her legs give way: Carpenter viciously to the waist with either hand just a-STRAPPIN' ingenue beltline. Good firm licks, but Righetti soaks 'em up: by the final minute, Amanda's stepped out or range, regrouped behind her jab and once again applying incremental pressure. Carpenter unable to finish, knows she has the round won, elects to leg out the clock.
R9-10: Grim study in youthful vigour overwhelming experience and guile: Amanda walks Charisma down, punishes her without mercy. Minute after minute, Righetti torments CC with stiff jabs flowing into rising hooks, punctuated with dropping, chopping right hands. Amanda's legs sleek n' springy - she easily bounces out of range as CC mounts desperation reprisals - eating Carpenter up with jabs and clawing hooks until Righetti can go over to offence. Hard to watch as CC fields several booming hooks and right hands off her swelling face: crowd groaning in sympathy as tiring brunette soak 'em up without answering. Righetti equally heartless to the midsection - tilting in over her left foot, popping hips and RIPPING hooks in rangy series to Carpenter's ribs and waist. CC grimacing, retreating all ashen-faced: Righetti able to take canvas at will, out body punching the body punching specialist. Carpenter absorbing long thumping sequences to her flanks along the apron, then clinching Righetti for breaks. Amanda fresh n' sweaty in CC's tired grasp, bouncing on the spot, impatiently waiting for ref to act. Punishing final 6 minutes all Righetti: she lumps up on a legend for a hard fought UD10.
After: Carpenter downcast, puffy, banged up and tender: she runs into one of boxing's most dangerous darkhorse threats on a night when Amanda was at her very best. "Carpenter was a great, great fighter," Amanda's quick to say in postfight. "I could never have battered her in her prime like I did tonight. That said (shrugs) I DID get it done on Carpenter - big. I made the woman look old, I took her legs out of the fight, and I owned her down the stretch. Not a lot of girls can say they took care of Charisma Carpenter the way I did tonight." |
