Before: Has Jewel ever had a gimme fight? Once again, Kilcher steps in against a more experienced foe, but she comes in this time with over 80 hours of sparring and looks it on the scale. Sporting a sleek, relatively taut physique, Jewel almost a body double for the always fit Thorne-Smith, Both girls in powder blue tank tops, navy bottoms for Kilcher, white for Smith.

During R1,2,3: Always unpredictable, the multi-faceted Smith chooses to wage war on the inside, rubbing shoulders and forheads with Kilcher in grinding trench warfare early. Snith getting it done with quicker hands, and a nice to step to the right after punching, making Kilcher move her feet, and beating the singer to the punch. Courtney just a treat to watch, cheek to cheek with Jewel, hands at her tummy blocking Kilcher’s one-two, then scoring clear to Jewel’s jugs and chin with swiping hooks and clipping uppercuts, Smith turning Jewel into punches, slipping on the inside and banging to the body with short, no-backswing blows—Courtney every inch the teach through 3.

R4: Jewel soaking it up and coming back for more, finally gets the better of Courtney with sheer determination. Bodying up and walking Smith to the ropes, Jewel jerks short hooks and chopping right hands to the stomach and chest of Smith, causing Courtney’s lips to tremble as she sucks wind for the first time. Jewel just getting warmed up, shoving Courtney with the left forearm then turning the right shoulder into a piledriving blow to the sternum, when the bell rings.

R5: Court comes to center ring, immediately falling in with Jewel, but kilcher meets her on the way inside with blasting short right lead from the shoulder that sits Snith down in a heartbeat. Courtney stunned, beats the count, and is forced to trade desperately as Jewel storms in, Smith-arms in, gloves at her chin—is able to counter Jewel with chopping blows inside, but Kilcher looking like a little blonde David tua as she starts to batter Courtney on the ropes.

R6: Smith shoulder to shoulder with Jewel, trading right hands, and it’s a losing proposition. Kilcher out-beefing Smith soon has her against the ropes and begins the process of bludgeoning her fellow blonde’s arms, body and breasts with clubbing lefts and rights. Smith pummeled into a tight defensive shell, stands and takes it to the bell.

R7: Carnage continues as Jewel puts together one of her best rounds as a pro. Stunning Smith early with that same, short lead right, Jewel bodies up and plunges her fists into the sobbing Courtney Thorne. Chin on Smith’s shoulder, Jewel mugs the actress, drawing her arms back and belting away downstairs as Smith screams behind her mouthguard. Punishing one sided round sees a wobbly Smith walk to her corner with one hand along the top rope.

R8: Smith trying to save the fight, stands in, forehead to forehead, and beats Jewel to the punch with desperate one-twos inside. Jewel squared up falls into the bad habit of letting Smith get off—Courtney book-ends the exchanges and regains some confidence this round.

R9: The girls fall in together as they have all night long, and once again, Jewel turns her shoulder into that crashing right hand to sit Smith down for the second time in the fight. Courtney soaking up a HUGE shot, barely makes it to her feet and begs the referee to let her continue. Kilcher wades in, unintentionally butting Smith in the teeth as she sets up over Courtney’s chest to do mayhem, Vicious, sustained pounding to the body, breaks up Smith’s defense, and she is helpless as Kilcher lands the odd left hook on her square jaw. Smith battered from corner to corner along the ropes, simply out-muscled, and ion the final minute, she is a pathetic sight. Smith, seated on the turnbuckle, leaning forward, gloves at her face, taking ripping blows to the body and curling punches off her jaw as the bell sounds. Jewel turning away with a brilliant smile as Courtney looks like she’s been carpet bombed. And it’s all over—an exhausted and badly battered Courtney Thorne-Smith can’t make it out for the 10th and final round.

After: Jewel ecstatic when Court can’t get off her stool—as punishing a treatment as she has ever given an opponent. Smith a proud warrior, is inconsolable afterwards, but simply could not take any more of Jewel’s punches—especially to the body. Decision to fight Jewel’s fight costs Courtney dearly on the night, one of the worst beatings of her long and illustrious career.
