Before: Once-feared Ledoyen exposed last time out by a sparkling Claire Danes—slender blonde’s success has Hewitt looking to repeat the success. “I’m every bit the boxer Danes is and I’m twice the draw,” proclaims Jen. “Once I slap Virginie down, people are going to realize what they’ve been missing.” Perhaps, but Hewitt’s own let down against Witherspoon held her back and lack of pop has many questioning whether she belongs with flyweight stylists like Gellar, Danes and Packard. “Hewitt always looks good in the gym,” notes one fight-scribe, “but when girls punch back in anger, she’s come up short, Danes and Gellar can’t punch much either, but both are consistent body punchers—Hewitt has to develop her offense to make a move at 110.” Virginie in black leather bikini, Jennifer love in thin strap royal blue sports bra, high waist boy cut trunks.
During R1: Jennifer Love showing her elusiveness, but also her flaws—crossing over the line between boxing and running. Virginie cool as she stalks her prey, elbows in, fists loose at her chest, looking to stroke Hewitt whenever the brunette stops moving. Jen doesn’t give Ledoyen many looks—scampering from corner to corner, avoiding meaningful exchanges and forfeiting points this round.
R2: Hewitt still using the ring, but picking her spots to come in. She’ll dip in low, snick-snack her fists across Virginie’s flat but suspect gut, then pivot away to either side. Ledoyen marching through it, missing over the top in the first minute but midway through, VL misses a slicing right, torques back a winging left and catches Hewitt flush in the face. Jennifer Love spanked senseless by the shot, drifting midring—Ledoyen able to reload, haul a limber right hand up into the breadbasket, then twist over the top another looping left and HEWITT GOES DOWN! Jennifer Love sprawled on her back and this one is OVER! KO2 Virginie Ledoyen.
After: demure smiles and happy looks from Virginie who rediscovers her home-run stroke with a vengeance. Tracing Jennifer down took about 4 minutes—landing meaning punches about 20 seconds and Ledoyen gets back on track with a devastating win.
