Amy wasn’t expected to beat a strong up and comer like Tessie Santiago, but many pundits smelled potential danger of the Shakira/Hannigan type in this matchup. Brenneman’s not mobile, but she’s a strong puncher, very heavy handed to the body and with Tessie confidence in question, a vigorous beating to the midriff held the promise of an upset. Santiago ended the suspense with a typical display of boxing/punching, but not before Brenneman tested the theory in the second and third rounds.

Santiago made mistakes early. Possessed of a shattering, stiff jab, Tessie nonetheless used it sparingly, or at the wrong times, letting Amy get to her chest and put veteran paws on nubile young torso. On the inside, Santiago lay in with Amy getting outworked, and up against the ropes, the young brunette seemed easily hittable, though hard to hurt. Brenneman went about the job of winning minutes with typical workmanlike deliberation, getting off, then smothering to keep the pace slow. In the fourth, Tessie finally got her distance, stacking the advancing Brenneman up on the end of the stick and the finish came in a thunderclap, With a cleaving right hand reminiscent of Estella Warren, Santiago clipped chin, pulled back to let Amy fall straight down onto her face. Happy-swinging ponytail, big smile Tessie as she strutted to her corner, high fives all around and not one backward glance at the slumbering Brenneman.
