“SOAP WARS”

(Budig plays “Greenlee” on Ripa’s soap “All My Children”. Guess who was home sick from work yesterday?)

Before: Budig, a former Ripa protégé, but students wants to be the master now. “Kelly’s gone soft,” Rebecca tells “Soap Opera Battles” (SOB). “She used to be the boss around here, but ever since she started thinking she was too good for daytime, you can see she’s lost her edge, She just hasn’t had the hard rounds to be able to last with me.” Budig in pink bra and panties, white shoes and gloves, Ripa in pale blue bra and panties, white gloves and shoes. Ring set up on the AMC soundstage—cast and crew in attendance.

During R1: Budig goes right at her old mentor, Crossed arms, bull rush—Rebecca looks to get under Ripa, butt her back, hook her hard, Kelly giving ground, then she responds in kind, lowering her shoulder, getting underneath, shoving for punching room, then blistering Becky’s tanned ribs with Frazieresque hooks. Murderous two-way action as the girls take turns clobbering each other, walking each other down. Girls straining to get at each other after the bell as ref interviews.

R2: Budig with the early jump once again, doubling up the jab to close distance, hurling her body into an overhand right—she’s got Kelly covering up, falling back early. Luscious work at the ropes from Budig: Ripa’s folding forward, giving up her flanks—Rebecca’s getting her back into glorious hacks at the exposed ribs, digging in behind either elbow and KELLY TAKES A KNEE! Ripa’s face pinch, breathing out through pursed lips—she’s feeling it.

R3: Budig digging into that tender body, crossing her arms, getting underneath, bulling her way forward. Ripa giving ground a scraping jab, pivots to her right, starts to turn the muscular brunette midring, Final minute, Kelly’s got Rebecca cooperating, fighting off the brunette’s left shoulder, putting cuffing hooks and chopping right hands together off a pesky jab to turn the tide.

R4: Girls jabbing early—Ripa making sure she jams home the last left in any series, starts to take command with her feet. Kelly stepping to the right, chiseling at her foe’s chin the jab, then booming over the top right hands as Budig starts to n\field serious leather. Midway through, Ripa in command with her feet, starts to put the left hook in underneath off the right hand, hoisting it in off her front foot as Becky takes it in the breadbasket. Budig looking winded, shopworn for the first time in the fight. She’s getting back up at the bell.

R5: All Kelly Ripa—eyes bright as she knows she ha her girl suffering. Ripa establishing the jab early, getting position over the brunette’s shiny left shoulder, then pounding in the overhand right, finishing up tough in the gut with the jagged hooki. Ripa getting off, stepping arounf her girl—Budig wearing down, confused, not punching back. Patient punishment adds up and down the stretch, constant methodical beating puts Rebecca wobbly butt. Becky, eyes forlorn, arms crossed, tilting forward—Ripa puts the finishing touches to that body with a big grin, Big, spanking right hands behind the elbow—Ripa in close, palming shoulder with her left to reset those monster rights and Budig goes down with a gurgle! Becky on her hands and knees, all tremble-bodied—Ripa struts around her fallen foe, snarling taunts as Becky can’t get up. KO5 Kelly Ripa.

After: Ripa withstands youthful pressure early, rolls Becky up and wears her out I a crowd-pleasing two way slugfest. Ripa the more versatile of the two, showing prime-time skills as she used the jab to set her opponent up for power strokes to the body, Budig all weepy and crippled as she’s helped out of the ring, admits later on that Ripa, “still hits like a truck.”
