Through 5 round, you could not have scripted a closer, more competitive fight than this. Over the first half, Jennifer had scraped together a lead in rounds 3 to 2, and had probably won 8 minutes to Teri’s 7. Hatcher’s jab and lanky power were being managed by Aniston’s heady blocking defence and faster hands in combination. Overall, Jennifer was getting the better of the exchanges: it looked as though Jen’s sturdiness would be the difference as she seemed to be a winning a classy battle of attrition.

The one rule for Aniston in this fight—the one non-negotiable element was simply this” stay away from Teri’s right hand. Hatcher could hoist lanky hooks and flap jabs all she wanted, but if Jennifer could avoid that slinging right cross, it was clear than Aniston was going to win. In the sixth, Teri finally established her right, scoring repeatedly against Jennifer’s square jaw, and in the seventh, the accumulation became decisive. Flicking jabs preceded a crashing right-to-chin, and Jennifer’s night was ended in a heartbeat. She would take the chin-check, freeze out over her feet, then topple straight-legged into the canvas with her forehead/right shoulder leading the way.

Nice win for Teri her biggest in a long time as she bags a big-name blonde. Bad beat for Aniston as HBO and her handlers look for ways to shore up her reputation with just the right amount of risk: most expected her to turn Teri back.
