TKO7, Nichols
Frequently overmatched Rachel HAS had her chances to get wins in the FCBA, but she’s never quite been able to pull the trigger before Maggie G. Against undergunned hopeful Grace, Nichols would once again enter with a competitive chance on paper, and this time, Rachel delivered in spades, halting Maggie well inside the distance of scheduled 10 round tilt.
Nichols hit Maggie with discouraging power, laying in right hands to buckle Grace’s legs in the first, second, and seventh heats. Rachel paved the way with her jab, but even this she committed to wholeheartedly; it was if Nichols knew Maggie couldn’t bear up under determined fire. When Maggie went limp at the ropes in the seventh, unable to defend herself and starring groggily at her tormentress—Nichols showed no mercy, Rachel Nichols put it to Maggie Grace the way so many woman have put it to Rachel in the past, and there was no mistaking the finishing-vigour with which Nichols battered her foe.
Grace had her moments—hurting Rachel with an answering right cross in the fourth, but even in the ruggedness category, Nichols proved to be just a bit better. Rachel came right back to outbox Maggie in the fifth, and would never again be seriously threatened in this contest.
Both women featured a basic one-two approach, but the experience accrual in Nichols was clearly evident. She’s been where Maggie is now, and the difference is acute.
