Before: Hard feelings all around—Winnie explains. “First, she reneged on our fight-contract to take Rachel Nichols first. Second, she got BEAT by that cow Nichols—so the pressure’s on me to wax Anne even worse, because Rachel goes over every performance of mine with a fine tooth comb. And finally, there’s just her attitude—she called me a ‘one-summer wonder’ and I won’t have that from her. Anne needs to respect me, and I’ll see that she does.”
Hathaway non-plussed—irritated by the sound of Mary’s voice—she’s contemptuous at the podium, “I’m not losing to Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Nichols had the luckiest night of her life against me: lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice. I’m going to back her up, be strong with her, and beat her like I was her momma. I’m breaking this kid’s spirit in this fight—Mary’s not going to be the same afterwards.”
Mary in lemon yellow bikini—long brown hair with bangs; white gloves. Anne in riyal blue bikini top; white bottoms with big blue polkadots of different sizes; white gloves.
During R1: MEW with a strong whacking body attack—arms straight as she delivers batting licks to flanks and waist. Hathaway huffing and puffing, backing up—she’s hardpressed at ropes for over a minute as Mary squares away and beats her. Anne clinching. Walking Mary back for the break—final minute sees Anne stabilize her front behind a pounding jab, rebuking Mary’s face.
R2: Mary forward, leading with her face: the pulverizing Hathaway jab brings Winstead to a shuddering halt. Anne pounding Mary—forcing Winnie to cover up: Hathaway able to palm-shove Mary around, walk her down. Mostly heavy jabs from Anne—the odd short right hand up top and sturdy hook to ribs completes the round-winning menu.
R3: Mary back feisty. Heavy, batting shellack directed to Anne’s waist and flanks—sapping some of the sturdiness from strong-bodied brunette. Hathaway grimacing—looking top push Mary I her shoulders to set her, then punch a right uppercut to her body or face. Hathaway scoring, but not nearly busy enough—Mary not discouraged in the least, continues to throw herself at her foe for points
R4,5: Mary’s volume-attack shuts Anne down: Hathaway moping behind prepared defences—turning into Mary and following her around. Winstead’s cheeks rosy-red with effort—exhaling SHHH! SHHH! As she beats Hathaway’s torso, Mary lavishing the body, the pushing in all big-girl, bodying Anne back and forcing her to ropes. Hathaway batted and buffeted along aprons until she can clinch Mary for ref’s break. Just a constant, effervescent attack from Winstead, making Anne look lethargic and grumpy though 5.
R6: Tepid jabs from Anne met with rip-roaring rights and lefts from Mary: Winstead baring her teeth, swinging away on the supposed stronger brunette. Hathaway backing up—obviously uncomfortable doing so: she’s not doing much to stem the tide of Winstead punches. Sticky, pounding blows—Mary bouncing either fist off stubborn Hathaway tummy and ribs—Anne just stooping forward behind her mitts, grunting unhappily, taking punches, then clinching. Bell: no doubt about it—Anne’s buttocks are wobbling!
R7: Discouraged Anne goes to the ropes, hands up around her face trying to ward off punches as Mary swarms in. Winnie slugging away—hair swishing side to side—buttocks ringing—weight shifting one foot to the other as she pulls the leather across—what a beating! Mary aglow—just PASTING poor Anne at the ropes—punches bouncing off Hathaway’s shoulders or prepared defences as she leans sadly back into cables. REF STEPS IN! Mary leaps away with a yelp: that’s TKO7 strong for MEW!
After: Hathaway visibly shaken/disgusted—she just took too many punches, let herself get gnawed on and backed up: she can be better. Mary delighted—about to run over and taunt Anne when garner takes her by the elbow and directs her into more positive celebrations. “Anything Rachel can do. I can do better!” A beaming Mary bleats in postfight. “It was worth the wait—seeing Anne slump into the ropes and quit under my punches. I wish the ref had held back just a few seconds more—she was TIOTALLY going to give up!”
