Before: McAdams taking a break from her Neve-busting activities—stepping back from the fire to brush up on some neglected skills with a consummate boxer like Thorne-Smith. “I’ve always admired Courtney,” Rachel tells reporters in refight. “Growing up, she was one of my favourite fighters—just because she was so classy and smart in the ring—she’s a great role model for young fighters coming up.” Smith similarly cordial at the dais: “Rachel’s a tremendous young talent,” Courtney admits, “I love her strength and poise—she’s really got it together for an ingénue-fighter. I hope to expose a couple of flaws I’ve seen in her game—there are a couple of things I can do to offset her physicality. It should be a really interesting test for both of us.” McAdams in maple leap camisole crop-top (bare midriff), red bikini-cut bottoms. Courtney in white bikini top, baby blue cashmere crochet bottoms. White gloves, both vixens.

During R1: Court quick off the blocks, flicking out a rapid jab, scoot-stepping to her left. McAdams blocking poke on a high guard, walking Smith down—Rache directing her attack to the ribs of the older woman, coming in off the jab to land thudding rights/lefts. Nice back-and-forth—Courtney wisely disengaging and using rhe ring to minimize exposure to Rachel’s ringing body blows—McAdams the aggressor over the last half the round, takes the points.

R2: Identical point—Smith uptempos to set the pace in the first minute; Rachel walks through it, starts landing to the ribcage in the second minute, and by the third—McAdams has Courtney on the run. Smith grimacing, hopping around the perimeter: she needs to hurt Rachel and get some respect—the kid is attacking to the body with too much gusto.

R3: Smith boxing brilliantly in the first minute, scuffing up Rachel’s face, penetrating McAdams’ guard with firm poke. McAdams answers in the second minute--great thumping rights and lefts to the ribs, taking Courtney in her flanks, or banging bone just beneath the breastline, Final minute, Smith gambles—hanging around in front of Rachel and punching-with: pays off as Court clips left uppercuts and hooks to good effect off her front foot. Rachel forced to back off for the first time tonight—nodding in acknowledgement of blows well struck by Courtney. Bell: girls swat gloves en route to respective corners—tons of mutual respect in the ring tonight.

R4: Rache doubling up the jab, scooting forward—she’s getting on top of Courtney quicker, hounding Smith to ropes and landing some HELLACIOUS strokes to the ribs. McAdams mitts bouncing off Court’s body with wince-making thud—Smith cringing. Covering up, then trying to scoot to her left along the ropes. Rachel coming in like an auburn-haired freight train—jabbing to fix position, then ringing up ribcage with savage, batting, strokes. Thrilling stuff—Rachel’s pursuit-boxing glorious to behold—poor Smith reeling, just trying to find breathing room. Midway through, Rachel punching Courtney hard at the ropes: right hand crunches in between Smith’s guard as she’s stooping forward; left hook swings in underneath, sinking square to liver and drawing a sympathetic groan from the audience—COURTNEY GOES DOWN! Smith’s face screwed up in agony—she drops to her knees, then sprawls forward t forearms, buttocks raised as she tries to wriggle-out the pain. At “8”, Court’s still down—she puts her forehead on canvas, legs numbs—unable to get off her knees. KO4 to the body—Rachel McAdams.

After: Savage display of McAdams’ potent body attack—she solves a veteran riddle tonight with straightforward brute force—just braking Courtney down and subjugating her,. Rachel couldn’t be sweeter to Courtney in postfight, hugging the blonde, chatting with her in the aftermath, making sure she’s ok. “Rachel McAdams is the future of the bantamweight division,” Courtney tells reports, shushing BLONDE! Mag muckrakers before they can get going. “She’s a tremendous fighter, but more than that, she’s very well grounded and classy out of the ring. She’s got the tools to dominate for years, and boxing will be the better for it!” Camera pans to a non-plussed Neve Campbell, sitting with lips pursed, arms crossed, clearly not enjoying the McAdams love-in. In days to follow, Neve issues a challenge to Courtney Thorne-Smith telling BLONDE! Magazine, “I don’t know—maybe Courtney rushed to judgement on the whole ‘future of bantamweight boxing’ thing. She was spreading it on a little thick with Rachel don’t you think? McAdams took 4 rounds to break Smith down: I’m pretty sure I can name that same tune in 3 heats.” No word from the Smith camp at press time whether or not Courtney’s willing to insinuate herself into the middle of the very bitter Campbell/McAdams rivalry.
