Charlize Theron* vs. Gena Lee Nolin (V) (Universal Featherweight Title bout) 22-Aug-99

Nolin thought to be out of contention following the let down against Bleeth, but Theron anxious for revenge, makes the bout with her heart instead of her head. Nolin with a career winning record against Charlize, always seems to rise to the occasion the perennially favored Theron; and she's just awkward enough to give Charlize problems. Fought in London in front of GLN fans for the gate - it's a huge risk for Charlize who gains nothing but personal satisfaction with a win, and loses everything she's worked for with a loss.

Round 1: Get out the Endswell! Gena busts Charlize wide open with the overhand right to start the round, and has Theron teetering on the brink of a stoppage before Charlize manages to get the jab going. Theron in control the rest of the way, jabbing to the face and spearing the right to the body to try to break Gena down.

Round 2: OH GENA! Gena Lee pours it on, fighting like a woman with nothing to lose. With Theron's left eye already closing, Gena sends a stream of crashing rights over the top, many of which are blocked, but enough land to have Theron backing up. Gena whipping wide left hooks from her hip, clouts Charlize' beautiful face to the side and has her helpless at the midway point. Free swinging lefts and rights to the body pin Charlize to the ropes as, once again, her legs shot, hands down, it's that rugged chin that saves her as Nolin plows away to a brutal shutout.

Round 3: Gena getting a little arm weary, trades potshots from outside with a bleary-eyed Charlize in even two way action for most of the round. In the final minute, Nolin clinches, heaving Charlize into a corner where she indulges in heartless low blows - disguising the fouls with her body. When the Ref. finally calls for the break, Nolin pushes her forearm up under Theron's chin to shove Charlize painfully back at the bell.

Round 4: Charlize finally on board after getting roughed up to this point. Stepping forward, Theron's adjustment is to work at medium/close range, fighting inside the sweep of Nolin's murderous right hand. Charlize is able to beat Gena ragged this round with clipping combinations to the body and head.

Round 5: Early good work from Charlize all erased as Nolin clinches, spins the big blonde off balance and hits on the break with a lunging right to the jaw to sends Theron sprawling into the ropes. Charlize desperately hurt yet again, her hands at her waist and slumping forward as Gena Lee pounds away, SWEEPING LEFTS AND RIGHTS ACROSS HER BRA. Gena smiling, banging a helpless Theron from one foot to the other; propping the champ up and positioning her along the ropes for more hay-makers in another savage, brawling round.

Round 6: Charlize shows her fortitude, sucking up the pain and regaining enough form to fight tight and close. Still not on the inside, where neither girl is all that effective. Still too close for Gena to wing her shots, Charlize is able to snap off short lefts and rights inside of Nolin's punches, THERON BEATING GENA LEE'S BOOBS with hard hooks and biting uppercuts.

Round 7: Charlize coming back strong, staying close, bobbing underneath Nolin's sweeping blows and digging short left hooks to the blonde's ribs and hard right hands on the jaw. Gorgeous left to the body, short right uppercut sends GLN's head up and back, and she nearly folds to the canvas. Charlize goes to work! Theron from the side fighting off Gena's lead shoulder, digs the body and kidney with a clubbing round punches to the bell.

Round 8: Gena lands that bomb right hand again, but Charlize is taking the punch much better as Nolin is looking arm weary. Theron managing distance beautifully, keeping up a constant pebbling off her opponent and bobbing well to make Gena miss more often than not.

Round 9: Charlize helps herself to Gena's midsection, biting at the taunt flesh with a ripping left hook that has Nolin's legs trembling early. Nolin to her credit doesn't go down, choosing to stand in and slug with Theron and some nasty two-way exchanges see both women absorb terrific punishment. Theron the stronger down the stretch, finally beats Nolin into a shell, raining blows to the arms and flanks of the beleaguered blonde to the bell.

Round 10: Two exhausted warriors stand at center ring, reaching for each others arms to lock up, then punch from there. Slack jaws, lidded eyes - the girls take clean punches without flinching, reduced to punching automatons by the sheer damage done to this point. Gena gets the better of Charlize in the final moments of the tenth, riding her left arm along Theron's shoulder, and slugging her with short right hands to the face and POUNDING HER PERKY BREASTS to the bell. GENA LEE KEEPS SWATTING SACK after the bell and the wobbling beauties have to be separated as their corners flood the ring. Decision comes back to a chorus of boos from the pro Gena crowd: UD - Theron retains her title.

Theron leaves London public enemy number one - but the score accurately reflects Gena Lee's power punching and the ring generalship of the champ. Nolin with another impressive showing against Charlize, but it's clear afterwards these two girls simply can't bear the sight of the other at this point
