Charlize Theron vs. Jennifer Garner (II) by simguy 11/23/02

Cat Bell the special commentator for this highly anticipated rematch. "I'm really looking forward to this fight - you can't ask for a more competitive match up," says the champ. "It's so hard to call. Charlize is a killer in rematches because she's often flat or complacent the first time around, but that's not the case this time. Charlize knows, as I do, that Garner's the real deal and Jenny beat a very good Theron in their previous encounter. I like Charlize' size, but she had difficulty using it against Jen. I like Jennifer's quickness, but she's had problems hurting Theron. Both have looked good in camp...I'm going with Charlize but I wouldn't be surprised to see Garner claw out a decision."

Round 1: Jenny jabs, Charlize drops the right hand to jaw over top, slings across the follow up hook - Garner's head swiveling, legs weak early and a glancing right off the temple PUTS HER DOWN! Seconds in, Jen on all fours - Charlize climbing the ropes in a neutral corner and hooting as Garner collects herself. All Theron the rest of the way as she stalks, gathering Jenny in with stroking, long hooks, setting down on pulping straight right hands, snapping down with her wrist as she tries to bang up the middle. Garner doing a nice job defensively, but she's woozy early, unable to get off herself.

Round 2: Charlize continues to dominate. Garner's legs still shaky early - big blonde able to swoop in, put the jab between Jenny's breasts or corral her with wide hooks, then drilling short, sharp right hands straight from the shoulder. Garner staying off the ropes, but in headlong retreat - she's just surviving for the first 2 minutes. Down the stretch, Jenny getting it together - she stops, plants, thumps a scooping right off Theron's advancing belly, immediately puts the hook on top and CHARLIZE GOES WOBBLY BUTT! Theron caught walking in, reaches woozy to clinch - Garner tears her up! Furious side to side combinations - Jenny baring her teeth with effort, slugging a drooping Theron to the ropes with an abrupt barrage. Bell sounds with Theron leaning back against the ropes, hands at her face, getting her ears walloped as Garner steals the frame.

Round 3: Jenny's got her legs back - she uses them this round. Garner spearing the jab, stepping in, stepping around, never standing right in front of the bigger woman. Theron also leggy, keeping pace - she's lifting the jab off her hip, still trying to rope Jenny in for booming right hands up the middle. Garner busier, more apt to put 2 and 3 punches together and doing a marvelous job of anticipating Theron's right.

Rounds 4-5: Charlize starting to stake her claim. Jenny can't turn the flank on Charlize - Theron keeping her jab on Garner, getting range, then spotting that crashing right hand. Theron placing heavy rights between the breasts and down into the stomach, forcing Jennifer to back up. Theron's straight rights to the face aren't getting through, but blocking them is leaving Garner exposed for a clouting follow up hook on the jaw. Garner gnashing her teeth, getting off in spots, but she's being herded around the ring, unable to stand her ground and getting out-boxed in set piece battles of Theron's choosing.

Round 6: Jenny up-tempos, showing strong fitness to fight the second half harder than she did the first. She's fitting a lead right inside Charlize' right, popping big blonde in the mouth, backing her up straight. Jennifer's slipping inside blonde jab, crouching and hooking with Charlize' left fully extended, banging at the breasts, torso and chin in a series of dazzling counters. Charlize shaken up and systematically abused in the first minute, and Garner keeps it going. Jenny piling on, adding the third and fourth punch to an already bewildering array of chop-chop - Theron reeling, floundering wide-eyed to the ropes, chin tucked, hands up to cover. Final minute a virtuoso beating: Garner bouncing jagged mitts off Charlize' slender waist, then mopping up the jaw with either hand. Theron breaking down, wilting forward, getting picked up --Jenny's letting her have it with hooks, crosses and uppercuts in a dizzying blitz of non-stop punching. Three banging right hands against the ribcage draw a groan from slumping Charlize - guard droops as she sits weak in the ropes and a clanging hook bangs the mouthpiece off her teeth. Theron helpless, out on her feet at the bell as the ref tackles an enraged Jenny G away! Scored 10-8 without a knockdown and Charlize is WRECKED!

Round 7: WAR! Theron flat-footed, tasting blood in her mouth - wades in with that loose left, just trying to ride it up over Jenny's shoulder to set up slamming rights through the middle. Jenny staying on the body, double and triple hooking the waist, coming off the tummy with the left uppercut off the front foot, then twisting into a downward hacking right. Both girls caught flush in one clanging exchange after another, backed off a step, then hardening up and taking it right to her opponent. Crowd roaring at the withering back and forth - Cat Bell bouncing up and down in her chair clapping and screaming. Final moments see Jen back Charlize up with a walking barrage of lefts and rights - blonde back hits ropes, Theron's eyes dazed as she faces into blows and Garner lands flush and free in the dying seconds. Theron getting her face spanked and clouted as she stands mute - Garner's fists busting open the blonde's eyebrow, aggravating that busted lip - Charlize too stubborn to go down as the ref has to enforce the bell once again.

Round 8: Jenny comes out of the bruising 7th with more juice, gets right back on Charlize with pit bull determination. Jenny spitting jabs, getting Theron to cover up, then welting the waist with gorgeous slicing rights, dipping to the right to pull in the hook to rib or across firm breasts, then zagging left to hammer home that blunt right hand on the face. Charlize windblown, getting shellacked - she's leaning into the storm and CHARLIZE GOES DOWN! Crowd roaring to it's feet as Theron stumbles to all fours - Garner stomping past with shouted taunts that Charlize can't hear over the din. Theron takes a boozy 8, reeling at the ropes and Jenny marches in to finish. Garner squaring up, jabbing at Theron to tilt her back, then bending side to side to snap vicious, sharp haymakers off her opponent's skull and ribcage but CHARLIZE WON'T PUNK! Final minute, Theron comes slugging off the ropes, stepping forward, picking Jenny up with a thick left uppercut, another step, the right uppercut - Garner's ramshackle as she stumbles backwards under the assault. Charlize banging away toe to toe, beating her foe clear across the ring - Garner hits the ropes and covers up hurt as Theron works her over! Charlize rattling a bundled up Jen with sweeping lefts and rights, fists crashing into the flanks or skidding across that slick lower back - Theron has to be tackled off this round as Jenny is left trembling, shell-shocked at the ropes.

Round 9: Garner smart, steel sprung legs bouncy - she takes it to the perimeter and skirts her foe this round. Charlize stalking, fighting angry - Jenny's punished her face and body and the blonde just wants to hurt Garner, not box her. Crucial tactical mistake - Jenny able to bounce to her left, keep the blonde turning, slash in and out just to land flashy, arm-punching flurries to Theron’s bra, keeping the bigger girl off balance. Charlize unhurt but ineffective this round, simply unable to pull the trigger.

Round 10: Theron with a strong, disciplined first minute, stepping Jenny down with the jab, maneuvering her to the ropes and landing the right hand with authority. Midway through, Garner erupts in a hail of punching, freezing the former champ in her tracks. Whiplash left/rights bounce off Theron's sturdy gut, shaking her - payoff hooks clout that pretty face, toppling Charlize backward. Rousing display of slugging on the march from Garner - she steps and bombs with either hand, pounding Charlize woozy and driving her back to the ropes. Garner closing it out with heartless intensity - criss-cross straight punches pancaking either Theron breast, creeping paralysis numbing the blonde, dimming the lights - Jenny able to lather away unopposed to the bell with a crowd-pleasing beat down. Comes back UD10 Jennifer Garner.

Jenny bellowing in triumph, stalking around the ring - uncharacteristic display of emotion as she gives Charlize Theron a back to back jacking. Theron ahead after a brisk first half, but the wheels fall off on the back 9 - she's badly shaken, drowsy from the comprehensive assault. Round after round - Jennifer Garner merciless as she took the fight to her foe, dropping Charlize, battering her body and face - just a demonstrative masterpiece to leave Theron crampy and bedraggled in defeat. Cat Bell ringside, standing and applauding Garner's effort - nobody's enjoying the devastated look on Charlize' bruised face more than Cat.
