BEFORE: "This is my Superbowl," admits Salli in prefight. "I know the odds of me fighting for a title are slim, but getting Hayek in the ring makes up for everything I've missed out on in my career. This is the fight I really, really wanted - this is why I secured HMK management and why I've kept in shape - because I knew one day Salma was going to answer my challenge." Hayek recalls her legendary fights at the LA Forum in the early 90s during her podium stand: "Salli reminds me of Paula Abdul - of Jada Pinkett and Nia Long. Those were wonderful fights - vigorous fights - and I made my name with those women. Salli is a Forum fighter at heart, and we will make a terrific showing for the fans." R2: Hayek able to close and bang more effectively, pummelling Salli's waist and flanks with both hands. Richardson grimacing in the pocket, fighting in closed stance: left shoulder in Salma's chest; right hand under chin, left hand across gut while pushing and body-steering Hayek. Richardson nibbling back in spots - picking Salma up cute right uppercuts out of the screen or snatching biting little hooks in under Hayek's right elbow. Hayek outworks Salli for points: both women know it en route to respective corners.

R3: Crisp, banging action. Hayek walking Salli down, clubbing at the arms and flanks: she really wants to gouge the hook in on liver, but can't quite find the sweetspot. Salli showing lively, fresh legs - always stepping back and around, circling Salma, getting off in bursts, then scooting out of range. Richardson going diligently to the body: snappy hooks licking in under Hayek's elbow; tasty buggy-whip right hands sweeping to paunch or hip. Salli jabbing pesky - just occupying Salma's guard. Salli also leading with the right hand while retreating - trying to locate Salma for spicy hooks. Richardson's footwork and ring generalship very impressive - she's got Salma walking in, taking many more punches than Latina can deliver. Down the stretch, Salli scores a number of saucy step-away hooks drawn across Salma's heaving rack as Salli's shifting weight to right foot. Bell: Richardson brightens, pumping her fist en route to her corner. Hayek scowling, grumpy from the jug mugging.

R4: Richardson leading that right hand, punches Salma economically between the eyes, then reloads and gets it again to mouth, startling Latina. Salli steps right, pulling the come-along hook across Salma's jugs, then jabs Hayek while stepping back out of range. Hayek fuming, bulling forward - Salli patient, beating Salma to contact, then circling away before serious receipts can be issued. First minute very discouraging for Hayek as Salli boxes Latina socks off. Second minute - lead right hand spanks Salma's face back: Salli doubles it to face; turns into a sweet, tight little hook, rolling her shoulder through the motion to clout Salma's cheek. Hayek's roaring receipts slipped by Salli - Richardson emerging out of her crouch off Hayek's left flanks, hooking Salma in her tummy. Hayek turning, chasing, blundering into combinations: Richardson pasting away on beautiful Latina features, busting Hayek up. Final minute - Hayek charging forward: Salli sliding back, drilling lead right hands as she retreats then nailing a GORGEOUS check-hook against onrushing Latina chin. Hayek spills past as Salli pivots - Salma hitting face-first into turnbuckle, stumbling backwards and HAYEK GOES DOWN! Salma terribly chin checked - on her back, knees up, head lolling side to side - Richardson jogs to neutral corner giddy with triumph. Hayek beats the count, swaying badly at the ropes and SALLI POURS IN! Richardson squares away, lets her hands go: belly tits and chin TATTOOED as Salma slumps into ropes in stupor. THE REF STEPS IN! Something like 5 seconds left in the round - but it's TKO4 in shocking fashion, Salli Richardson!

After: Hayek stunned, busted up; crowd pelting official with plastic cups as pro-Salma contingent livid about the short time left on the clock. Richardson blubbering happy tears - it's a huge, huge upset and the biggest win of Salli's starcrossed career. "It hasn't sunk in yet," gasps a teary-eyed Richardson in postfight. "I pasted Salma Hayek - I STOPPED her! Even in my wildest dreams, I never imagined I'd tear her up at the ropes and force the ref to move in - it's just too good to be true." Pundits renewing calls for Salma to retire and take her place in the hall of fame: Hayek just not reacting well to punishment in recent fights, not getting off with the thump we're used to seeing.
