BEFORE: "Sometimes, you throw feelers out to girls you never IMAGINE will come to the table," grinnin' Gena explains in prefight, "but you do it just in case...that's what happened with Uma. Her mistake: Thurman's gonna be the fattest cheque I've cashed in some time. This beating's gonna be so savage, that we really ought to give her a safe-word to cry out. Not that I'd stop, but it's funny to think of a chick shouting "PINEAPPLE" or something in the middle of a beatdown!" Uma sashaying onto the dais in full celebrity aspect: big name, though lightly regarded in the ring...she's got her hands full with a 100 fight ace and hall of fame-bound blonde. "I've been too busy being a real actress to pad my record with pork-fat wins," Uma breezes. "The reality is, I'm every bit the fighter Gena is - more. I'm classier, better conditioned...strip away that over-inflated record of hers and no one would pick her to beat me. And after this fight, no one ever will." Gena in baby blue bikini; white gloves. Uma in rainbow horizontal striped bikini; white gloves.

During R1: Uma upright, sliding out a long, stiff jab: Gena cooperating nicely by following in lock-step, taking poke on the face. Uma snarling as she jabs, sidestepping prettily left: her head's in the game; she's executing crisply; Gena's in second gear. Nolin unhurt, but spends 3 minutes sampling Uma's left hand.

R2: Uma roaming to her right; Gena shadowing her her; girls exchanging long, rigid left jabs. Minute mark - Uma with a slight angle off G's left shoulder: Nolin jabs, Uma issues an immediate, slinging right hand receipt LOUD to jaw. GENA'S STEPPING IN FENCE POST HOLES! Clapping whack unhinges Gena's knees - she's stumbling around, hands panicky at temples...Uma steps in a shoving right flat to tummy, punching the breath out of Gena "OH-H!" Nolin staggering to ropes in confusion - Uma snarling, stepping-to and revving it up. Tough middle minute for GLN: hands're up, but punched out of the way by Uma's straight, criss-crossing lefts and rights. Nolin buffetted about her eyes, head taking hard knocked...only G's curvy legs holding her up as Nolin lays back on ropes, taking a pasting. Down the stretch, Uma arm weary, starting to push in arm-punches: Gena starts belting back off ropes, slapping and clouting at Uma's face. Thurman maintains position, pinning G to ropes: Nolin avoids a dangerous shut out with desperate slugging - potentially converting a 10-8 Uma into a standard 10-9. Regardless: underdog Thurman out to the early lead through 2.

R3: Gena timing Uma's jab this round - tipping back from it, then swinging heavy right hands from the hip - looking to plow into Thurman's chin. Doesn't quite work, but aggressive blonde power-punching DOES move Uma off her stance: Thurman disorganized, doesn't have all the gangly piece working in concert this round. Nolin stabilizes front, walking Uma down, menacing her for points.

R4: Gena finally exerting will - outfighting Uma on all fronts. Looping, heavy right hand counters off the hip have Uma jab-shy: she's not releasing her left hand, allowing G to advance. Nolin forward off sweeping rights, then looking to mine tummy via left hooks/uppercuts off the left leg - digging at Uma's core. Thurman grunting, wincing as she's driven around the ring - G in charge. Midway through, CLOBBERING right hand finds Uma's chin, turning her head, scattering her to ropes: hard smile Gena Lee as she finally gets the range. Final minute all Nolin: she squares up on wounded prey, palming and pushing her down, then beating her rich, thick, stroking lefts and rights about the guard and flanks. Uma tremble-bodied at bell - blinking in wonder as Gena struts away grinning.

R5: Unexpected class from Uma: up on her toes, doubling the jab, sidestepping Gena's pursuit. Nolin wrong-footed time and again, forced to change directions and reach for Thurman: Uma dropping in slappy right hands that land pleasingly to face. G able to take the leather, but looking off-balance: Uma making Gena miss, luring her around the ring through 5.

R6: Gena missing wide strokes as Uma anticipates and pivots away all lean and tall: Nolin clearly frustrated by Thurman's well-schooled style. Middle minute, G sorts out Uma's trunks via low-slung right/left: both mitts thumping off crotch double Uma up, folding her into Nolin's waiting embrace. G bodies Uma to ropes, shoulders her down, then gets to work: big-girl beat down as G smothering and smears her foe against the cables. Uma whining, face distressed: she can't shake off the crotch music, gets herself rudely scuffed up in the sixth.

R7: Sloppy slugging-on-the-spot as Gena corners Uma, but can't intimidate her. Nolin pawing jabs at times, then leaning in with right hands. Uma leaning forward over her feet, twisting side to side, pulling wallop onto Gena's head. Nolin responding with similar power - reaching back behind her butt to load up either hand. Wide swinging leads to clinches as girls miss and fall-in: ref kept busy pushing bodies apart. Hard to score: Gena in good position atop Uma in the Thurman corner, but Uma not pressed hard to turnbuckles - she's able to extend and slug - it's not like Gena's tummy-to-tummy and owning.

R8: Gena dipping side to side, pulling power over the top: Uma making savvy reads - stepping away, circling, getting back in charge with the jab. Thurman's long poke a true weapon: rangy six footer using every inch of length to disrupt Gena's operations. Repeated right hands from Thurman - thrown with a slight loft - clout against Gena's left eye, swelling it badly this round. Nolin missing, following, not cutting off the ring: Uma takes more points in an uncomfortably close fight for Nolin through 8.

R9: Gena with a concerted effort to Uma's trunks early - wading in with low-slung, lapping rights and lefts, taking Uma inside her thighs and direct to crotch as boos rain down. Thurman gasping, driven to ropes: tears shine in her eyes as she clinches up around Gena's head, trying for control. Nolin atop her girl at ropes, keeping head/face on Uma while digging/plowing/cuffing at Uma's flat tummy underneath. Gena merciless in the clinch - often slamming right forearms against Uma's ribcage when good punching-room's not available. Ref issuing steady stream of breaks and warnings - repeatedly wagging a finger in Gena's face: Thurman visibly wilting, unable to get off the ropes before Gena back on. Gena tops off a smothering shutout with a tuff left shoulder-bump in Uma's teeth, setting up a shrugging right uppercut to chin that has Thurman sagging at bell. G strutting back to corner all cocky: she got into Uma's reserves that round.

R10: Uma trying for weary right uppercuts while backpedalling early: she just can't keep Gena off at this point. Nolin bodying Thurman to ropes - grinding and mauling on her: G a master at the cheap shoulder-bump/elbow strike/forearm shiv/tousle-scrub in close confines. Uma baring teeth, straining against Gena's weight: Thurman tying up, trying to wrestle-and-reverse Gena into ropes, but Nolin won't have it. Nolin constantly hugging Thurman into ropes, making sure of her, then smuggling in something to body before resecuring her foe: very difficult for Uma to get a punch in edgewise. Bell to bell Gena - she's content to put a body on Uma and use her up rather than going for the KO. Comes back slender one point duke, Gena Lee Nolin.

After: Boos from the pro-Uma crowd: Thurman all disheveled, trampled-looking...she came very close tonight to upsetting the heavily favoured bully. "I don't know what fight the judges were watching," Gena says in postfight, clearly disgusted by the close scoring. "How do they see that one point for me? I had the girl ragdolled and helpless - the whole thing was me on her, helping myself. What was so effective for her? That crybaby jab? Come on. Just more bias and Gena-hating - that's all it is. I battered Uma Thurman tonight: that's how it's going down in my fight diary."
