Before: Gellar wounding Kelly in prefight - harping on Packard's descent into info-mercial spokeswoman-hood - Kelly keeping a stiff upper lip, jaw tightly clenched as Sarah delights in twisting the knife. Tasty pairing as always at 110 - but Kelly having a little trouble working off her gut in time - hips, thighs and tummy wanting to be bantams these days.

"I'm probably not as slick as I was 5 years ago," admits Packard, "but I'm hitting harder and I'm stronger than I've ever been. I'm going to get big on Sarah and separate myself from her in this fight."

Interesting side note: Gellar reportedly dropped in sparring by Rachel Bilson - RB summarily dismissed from camp. "Not true," says an SMG spokesman. "Rachel Bilson was falling off the pace from day one and felt she was being used up by Sarah's intense training regimen. Rachel left camp of her own accord and we wish her well."

During R1: Sarah attacking vigorously out of a herky-jerk head bob - splattering lefts and rights against Kelly's shoulders, temples and ribs. Packard forced to the ropes but able to keep her left foot forward - she's flat footed, set in a tight blocking defence - getting hit but taking most of it on arms and gloves. Midway through, Packard punching-with and catching Sarah tasty: short right hand, clip-swatting hook - Kelly bringing her hands back, always tidying up defensively before punching again. Clean punching to the head puts wobble in Sarah's trunks - final minute sees her fade to ropes, slumping covering up as Kelly goes over to offence. Packard forehead to forhead, both girls elbows in, dukes up tight - Kelly just snap-snatching doubled up hooks head and body, dropping in straight right hands between Gellar's mitts at the bell.

R2: Girls meeting midring, tight defensive stances - both crouch, look to straighten up into hooks: Gellar's is tighter, gets there quicker - Kelly's fans over top as PACKARD REELS AWAY HURT! Kelly staggering headlong into the ropes, covers up: ON COMES GELLAR! Sarah rip-digging away lefts - doubling, tripling up the spank up and down Kelly's pale right flank. Left uppercuts, right uppercuts skid against Kelly's pate and gloves: Sarah biting the punches off tasty in tight. Batting right/lefts snappy on the waist - Gellar weight forward, forhead on Kelly's as both girls lean in but only one's doing work. Gellar bell to bell, leaves Packard trembling with hurt: Sarah's hands roaming at will hip to head on her rival.

R3: Punches ping-pong back and forth. Odd look, especially for Kelly - she's flat footed, chin tucked, hands up, elbows in - just forehead to forehead, snatching and clipping her shots, covering up quick. Gellar swivel-pivoting to turn Packard, but basically fighting in the same tight stance, punching in tangy clusters. Girls fists clip, chip, chop at each other, chiselling off the chin, skidding off the temples, clapping on the jaw. Both leaning in close to get into the body with digging intentions - rich, gouging waist and rib work in behind the elbows. Crowd pleasing fare - both girls getting hit more than usual - audience is responding with enthusiastic roars throughout the back-and-forth minutes.

R4: Sarah enjoys another bell to bell showcase - busting Kelly up and down and all over in the Packard corner. Kelly just rigid, dukes up, bending at the waist, rolling a little, but basically looking to work off the block. Gellar setting herself and getting off ratatat bursts - jabbing stubby, placing hard right hands hip or head, hook-hooking away head or body or both. Girls forehead to forehead throughout, with only Gellar working: Kelly stoic, hiding outward signs of hurt well, but lack of activity betrays her. During the break - Packard visibly ramshackle en route to her corner, slumping discouraged on her stool as enswell is applied to lumping-up eyes.

R5: Kelly fighting with her back near, but not ON the ropes: she's content to stand, be a gun platform and sharp shoot at Sarah. Gellar attacking, but getting tracked hard, stunning jabs on her face, chopped a tidy straight right hand on her chin and kissed hooks - head punching really adding up and staggering poor Sarah. Kelly pinging away up top, then leaning in to hook the waist - she's getting plenty of spank-and-give out of Sarah's tummy, forcing Gellar to step back and regroup with a pained expression.

R6: Sarah on the attack again, working her way up-torso with splattering lefts and rights as Kell leans forward, stationary, blocking. Packard countering off the block, waiting for Gellar's bursts, then answering with tightly clipped lead rights, licking left uppercuts, left hooks in the ribs. Gellar getting the worst of it - firing ineffectually, then getting tagged - Kelly coming forward, steadily working Sarah to the ropes. Middle minute - Packard steady, but upping the tempo - really tugging Sarah's chin, moving Gellar's head with chopping connects. Hooks in the body not doing Sarah a bit of good - she's gasping, folding up now, no longer shaking those shots off. Kelly just keeping it on - totally professional - same tight, compact delivery, hands coming back quick to set up defensively - no mistakes. Once collapse begins, it happens in an avalance - Gellar sits hurt in the ropes, falling apart - punches now ripping into her chest and ribs, picking up and swivelling her head AND THE REF STEPS IN! Furious Packard storming away still huffy with bloodlust: Gellar hugged and cradled from further slaughter. KO6 in savage flyweight fashion, Kelly Packard.

After: Excrutiating fight - girls probably hitting each other more, harder, than they have in any previous encounter. Packard pounded senseless in the second and fourth - both heats going 10-8 Gellar's way without knockdowns, but Kelly's overall size and strength keeping her competitive. Sarah initiating and losing raucous brawls to the likes of Portman, Jen Love Hewitt and now Packard - pundits wondering if the classy little veteran wouldn't be better served by the more conservative, defensive style of her youth. Pundits also concerned by the apparent degradation in Kelly's skills - she won this fight on heart and chin, the twin calling-cards of the aging flyweight.
