Before: Choice of opponent tells you a lot about a fighter - Kelly making a statement by calling out legendary ingenue-killer Luner. "I know I can get the Heather Kozar type bouts," says Kelly," those kinds of opponents are money in the bank and my fans demand them from time to time. But I'm working too hard at my craft to restrict myself to that level. I want to challenge the Catherine Bells and Jeri Ryans and have them respect the threat - I want the credibility it takes to get title shots and Jamie Luner gives me that." Pundits unanimously making Brook the underdog, citing names like Ashley Scott, Jennifer Garner, even Charlize Theron as women who had to suffer at Luner's fists before going on to greatness. "Kelly doesn't have to win this fight," says one grizzled scribe, "all she's got to do is compete. If she can hit Luner - she'll get credit for it. If she can take Luner's punch - Kelly will get credit. If she can go rounds, Kelly will be given credit. It's the kind of fight that every young fighter who's serious about her self has to take - Brook should be applauded." Kelly in reflective silver/white push up and panties - Jamie in pea green bikini top, pale blue bikini bottoms, hair back.
During R1: Jamie the aggressor early, still leggy after all these years, setting a brisk tempo with her feet. In and out - Luner spearing her jab body and head, doubling up on it - Brook a little anxious, hands up high, blocking rigidly and letting Jamie get off. Final minute, Kelly relaxes, starts getting off her own jab - can't find the range on right hands as Luner reads, slides to the side to evade them. Tactical first to Luner as Jamie takes a look-see.
R2: Trace of a smile as Luner dresses Kelly up jabs - poking to the belly, then darting at the face - Brook flinching, giving up spank as she shuffles her feet and tries to get position. Midway through, Luner breezy - stepping left behind that stabbing stick, dropping in right hands and LUNER'S DOWN! Kelly nice and compact, blocking shots, weight on her back feet - she times Luner's right hand, steps in with 100% Brook behind a rocket right hand on the mouth - Jamie's on her backside with a look of embarrassed shock for an early 8. Kelly not done - she approaches with the right under her chin, jabbing firm to keep Luner ropeside, then leaning into pounding rights off the shoulder - very reminiscent of Jeri Ryan's efficient delivery. Luner too collected to be nailed again - hands up, rotating her torso and rolling, but she can't answer back as Kelly shells her at the ropes.
R3: Luner's committing to footwork - assessing legs as the best way to minimize Kelly's strengths. Luner dancing left, showing the jab tummy and eyes, feinting, then coming in - mixing in the odd lead right hand. Brook turning, weight on her back foot - she's parrying the jab up top, but taking the one in the gut - those things are energy leeches and both women know it. Kelly occasionally pounding out a hard single jab - Luner shying away from it, batting it away with her right hand - Luner showing a little respect, but firmly in control after 3.
R4: Jamie loving it to Kelly's belly - reaching in that rigid jab, really touching up the midriff. Brook starting to notice - wincing, dropping her right to sweep the incoming jab off her tummy, and that's what Luner's looking for. Midway through, Luner shows midsection, steps and hooks chin instead, really getting her hips and shoulder in behind a tight, clocking wallop and BROOK SITS DOWN! Kelly skidding on her backside, busted flush on the chops - she's shook, takes a wobbly butt 8 as Luner circles her right hand in the air like she's about to wind this thing up. ON COMES JAMIE - Luner strutting-to, looking to palm up and get Kelly out of there and BROOK SLUGS BACK! Kelly making a stand, gritting her teeth - legs looking a little shaky, but she won't be cleaned up on - Luner forced to step out, regroup as time and again Brook fights her off. Round ends to the sight of Kelly dug in at the ropes, glaring defiantly as Luner snarls back, well out of range - redhead obviously frustrated, unable to finish in the fourth.
R5: Kelly jabbing with the jabber, just finding Jamie in the chest, finding her and LANDING THE RIGHT CROSS! Ryan-esque bolt sliding home - Kelly leaning forward, driving through the chin - Luner surprised to be caught, then staggering - she's hurt! Brook patient on follow up, hopping forward, laying out her left jab thick to paint the target, humming home right hands over the top as Luner stumbles to the ropes. Jamie covering up, going to the torso roll again - Kelly remembers the look, adjusts and shoots a robust swinging hook in the flank, keeping that right hand tight to the cheek as she moves her hips through the blow. Luner dazed, cringing at the body shot - veteran extends to clinch and BROOK LIGHTS HER UP! Crisp left uppercut finds Luner's chin, snaps her head back - she's stupefied, leaning forward, helpless and open. Kelly with a sliding step to the right, backhanding the jab at Luner just to measure and leaning into a SLOBBERKNOCKER right on the chin SENDING LUNER TO THE CANVAS!!! Jamie on her face, out cold - good lord - KO5 Kelly Brook in devastating fashion.
After: Brook staring down in astonished glee - Luner motionless, utterly demolished - it's pandemonium in the aisles! Upset to say the least - veteran scribes in press row all agog - no one predicted Brook winning, much less stopping Luner with such finality. Hard to dismiss as a fluke - Kelly finding a right hand in the second which put Jamie on the canvas - same punch capped Luner's night to discredit the lucky shot argument. Luner groggy, demoralized coming around - she disappoints a lot of people with her less than graceful comments. "I was overconfident - and with good reason - I was totally outclassing this kid. You know, I don't want to complain - but she doesn't look like a lightweight to me. I think there should be some kind of investigation. Seriously. Kelly Brook's a cheater and something should be done about it." Brook showing heart under pressure, clean mechanics on her powershots (so much so that the old Breast size/punching power argument flares up in chat rooms all over the country), a heavy jab and a promising hook to the body. Not much in the way of combination punching or clever feet, and questions remain about her stamina - but Brook rounding into form as a solid stalker/puncher in the Ryan mold.
