Before: Lane getting the fights, but Jeri Ryan almost a physical mismatch at this point—one wonders whether management has Lane’s best interests at heart by jumping at every contract offered. Still, Lane cognizant of Ryan’s reputation, saying “I’ve foght big hitters before, and done well. If I can keep Jeri off her game, keep moving, she won’t be able to pull the trigger.” Always nice to have a plan. Jeri in electric blue bandeau bikini, Lane in black sports bra, red bikini bottoms, hair back.

During R1: Lane staying close, crowding the blonde and keeping busy, fulfilling her prediction somewhat as Ryan lays in, waits her turn. Lane doing the little veteran things, turning Ryan midring, beating her to the punch in close, slipping under the hook and countering with short hooks of her own to the blonde’s chest, then finishing up cheek to cheek t smother the receipt. Good tactical give and take for Lane as she sets the pace early,

R2: Jeri making some adjustments, unpacks the jab, uses her reach, and a little clockwise shuffle to keep Lane at the end of her punches, Lane have problems with Ryan’s tireless left jab, and Ryan palming up, shoving Lane out of clinches to prevent Di from bodying up. Jeri solving problems, making good decisions retakes the initiative this round.

R3: Jeri hunting Lane down as Di tries counterpunching, and the blonde pounds jabs to drive Di ropeside. Lane sniping hooks from her tight guard, gets caught throwing as Jeri turns a perfect left uppercut, neatly freezing Lane’s legs. Di hurt, glassy eyed, sits pretty for Ryan’s machine-like right hand, left hook on the teeth, with an extra left hook to the face as Lane begins to flounder forward. Diane Lane hits the deck and flops pathetically to her back after 2 aborted attempts to stand KO3 Jeri Ryan, who casually regards her destroyed opponent as her corner removes gloves.

After: Not much to say—Ryan with Louis-like efficiency, using her strength and precision to sensational effect, putting Lane down with extreme prejudice. Lane with the right idea, simply couldn’t execute against Jeri’s attack on this night.
