UD10, 10 rounds to 0, Cameron Diaz.

Visser not a huge underdog at most books. She came into this fight a welterweight against a very slender, wiry light, and she’d handled a similar style in Molly Sims—a lot of folks thought she’d win rounds and maybe even get to Cameron with right hands. But Diaz was adamant it wouldn’t happen, claiming sub 130 as a “welterweight free zone” and taunting Nikki during the prefight: “Baby, maybe you didn’t see my fight with Charlize Theron? You’re like this cheap, made-in-Taiwan knock-off of Charlize  and I took that woman APART. Girl, what are you thinking?” big talk’s something hard to live up to. NOT this time.

Diaz employed the Roy Jones tactic of stinging the opponent early, making Nikki tentative after a shocking right hand on the chin to open the fight, then controlling Visser with superior footwork, slashing in and out attacks the rest of the way. Through 5, Visser came forward, but was relatively ineffective, scoring only when Diaz went to the ropes of her own volition and covered up to draw some of the big girl’s power by giving away the body. Nikki slugged in little squalls of raking lefts and rights in these moments, making the most of them, but never shaking Cameron badly enough to gain control, It didn’t look like a potential beating of the year at this point, with Cam doing just enough to win rounds and outclass her girl, but the best was yet to come.

The last half of this bout was a showcase for Cam, and a gut check for Visser who started to ship serious leather in willing herself to the finish line. Diaz darted in and stuck around for longer stretches, snapping her combos off with elbows in tight, fists rising in tearing arcs, beating the face and breasts of her girl as Nikki tried unsuccessfully to block. Cam was getting glorious lead right hands onto Nik’s jaw, stunning her, backing her up, then shredding her with cluster-punching, leaving the woman trembling while Diaz stepped out, circled to a new angle and pounced again. Minute after minute added up on Visser’s face, eyes swelling, legs looking heavy and Diaz kept at her with hateful intensity. In the tenth, after taking all night to break Visser down, Cameron unleashed her trademark glittering array of slashing lefts and rights, beating Visser to her knees, cutting her up and driving her helplessly along the ropes under withering pressure. In the end, Nikki refused to go out, but Cameron’s fists had done terrible work, beating the Aussie unrecognizable in exacting the 10-0 rout.
