Impromptu 10 round, no headgear contest in Neve's training camp for Kelly Hu.

Holly's insolent, hard-nosed sparring with Neve eventually culminated in what amounted to a legit, private 10 round boxing match with only Neve's trainers, handlers and camp-members in attendance. A bitterly fought, narrowly decided contest resulted as fresh-face Holly proved a solid, smooth-bodied bantam in the Neve/Jewel mold.

A slow-starting Neve would drop the first two rounds, outworked by an enterprising blonde in shoulder-to-shoulder brawling. Right away, Vallance showed herself to be well-balanced and tight-punching - snapping and snatching at Neve, torso-turning into blows and utilizing an extended left elbow with which to prop and nudge. Campbell joined in the fun in a brutal, flat footed third which saw the girls dig relentlessly at opposing jug, flank and midsection. In constant contact, the girls would mop each other's faces and shoulders with sweaty tousle, each looking to work bump-n-slug, then cover up cute to block receipts.

Campbell sought her trademark left to the liver, but Holly had the punch well scouted - sliding clockwise away from it and keeping the right elbow low to block it. In turn, Vallance showed nifty quick hands inside, tidying up on Neve's paunch and fitting short-jolting uppercuts in between brunette mitts to good effect. Both women chopped cruel right hands in above the left hip: the mutual draining effect was pronounced, and both pairs of legs stiffened because of it.

The fight was decided late when Neve eventually imposed a bit of will, pressing Vallance to ropes and forcing her to fight a losing battle of attrition over the final three heats. Holly took punches well and never quit - illustrating the depth of competition coming from overseas these days. Her defiant stands frequently left Neve with a puzzled expression as nothing in Campbell's scouting had anticipated this level of stubbornness or durability from the virtually unknown Holly.

Vallance' plucky underdog effort would be enough to get people speculating about a potential contest against rival pop star Christina Milian. For her part, Neve got some surprisingly hard rounds under her belt and looked sharp as ever heading into the new year, and her PPV dance with Kelly Hu.
