JOLENE BLALOCK VS CARMEN ELECTRA

KO8 Jolene Blalock.
In one of the great cobra vs mongoose match ups that can be made in boxing, these two stylistic opposites took turns hurting and threatening each other throughout 8 tempestuous rounds of slugging. It was a fiery return to form for both vixens - each once considered amongst the top threats in the talent-and-attraction rich bantam division.
Jolene displayed her loping ring generalship, sleek one-twos, and sinuous right hand power, stunning and harming Electra time and again throughout the bout. Carmen prowled on flat feet, bending and twisting under and away from harm, pointing either shoulder at Jolene and generating torquing clout from impossible angles - frequently unhinging Blalock's knees with hooks. Each vixen displayed heart - the one commodity thought to be lacking in these otherwise perfect specimens - coming back again and again from the brink of disaster.
And if the fight itself - in its sudden reversals and momentum changes - wasn't enough of a grabber, the action featured a fourth round that will surely be considered one of the year's best in 2007.
It started when Carmen's unpredictable and compact hooks snatched at Jolene's chin early, leaving her momentarily vulnerable to a follow up blizzard of rights and lefts in combination which put the tall blonde on her back in trouble. Electra's follow up was dazzling - a whirring buzzsaw assault that encompassed Jolene's flat tummy, hulking jugs and questionable chin in a mad romp from corner to corner along the apron. With Blalock out on her feet and swaying - Jolene managed to lash together hooks and crosses to drop Carmen to her back in the final minute. When Electra found the courage to fight off the KO as Jolene had earlier - the crowd roared to it's feet, instinctively understanding that something magical was occuring in the ring.
From then on, both girls fought as shabby parodies of the crisp and sure-footed women who had begun the contest. Standard punching penetrated drooping guards and wobbled shellshocked legs as both girls continued to mount breathtaking attacks upon the other.
In the end, a damaged and staggery Blalock was able to end a similarly deteriorated Electra's night with a flapping jab/slinging right cross. Carmen simply had nothing left to give, and indeed - so draining was her effort on this night that many fight scribes wonder if this fight may have finally signalled the beginning of the end for one of boxing's most illustrious names over the last decade.
For Blalock, the victory served as a stark reminder to a division who had become accustomed to writing off her lanky-limbed threat. "Jolene Blalock's still the most lethal right handed puncher in the division," noted BLONDE! Magazine in their summary of the fight. "It's very intriguing to speculate what might have happened had it been Rachel McAdams taking those punches instead of Carmen Electra."
