KATE HUDSON VS VALERIE BERTINELLI

KO6 Kate Hudson

This fight was largely about hyping Val's weight loss program; she was under no pressure from her money guys to beat Kate, because as they said: "Making your fighting weight is what's important to women - even gals who've never gotten into the game themselves want to know that they can get into fighting shape." But for Bertinelli, victory over Kate Hudson became a training camp obsession - perhaps because the expectations were so low. In a little under 18 minutes, Valerie would have her heart broken en route to a crushing stoppage loss between two very appealing and fan-friendly fighters.

Hudson was note perfect. Going directly at the Bertinelli midsection, Katie wasted no time backing the older woman up and establishing dominance at the ropes. Val was a determined vixen - face grimacing with effort as she blocked punishment and answered back to her foe's firm young torso - but this would not be a night when experience would trump vigour. Kate stayed on her girl - crowding her with head and shoulders; bobbing in front of Val to evade Bertinelli counters; battering the brunette with short, muscular punches - hip to head. No one punch did Valerie in: thudding accumulation would see the brunette's form degrade gradually throughout the bout until Kate was simply working Bertinelli over at will.

A stubby right uppercut stunned Valerie - effectively ending her night - but it would take a series of bloodcurdling hooks in the stomach to finally coax Bertinelli to hands and knees. Battered and used up - Valerie broke down into blubbering tears, unable to accept the verdict as the count passed her by.

For Hudson, a tight, well orchestrated, well executed demolition of an overmatched foe. Kate refused to gloat or torment Valerie: Hudson's worn Val's shoes too often in the past to ever be that callous.
