Before: Critics contend it's the wrong fight at the wrong time - Connelly avoiding an immediate rematch with Daniel in favour of hard bodied Jen G. "I honestly didn't see the Daniel fight as close at all," says Connelly by way of explanation. "Sure Daniel wants it - people actually watch a Connelly fight and Brittany loves the attention, but what's she bringing to the dance? I beat her half to death in that fight and I was robbed. There's no way of knowing what might happen if the Krushers get a second chance to buy a decision."

Garner looking to get some rounds, shed some inactivity - Connelly stepping up in class and both girls know it. "Hey, she was life and death with Brittany," says the confident ex-champ. "That doesn't bode well for her chances against me. I like Jennifer, but that doesn't mean I won't carve her up."

During R1: Garner easy to midring, jabbing for distance - Connelly dipping, stepping in and CLOCKING GARNER'S CHIN THE HOOK! Ripping connect swivels Jenny G's head - spygirl dazed and sinking dreamily to the canvas - she sprawls on her back all but out! Superior conditioning allows Garner to beat the count but she is RAGGED against the ropes - eyes glassy, gloves limp at her lips - ON COMES CONNELLY! Jenny C crouching, staring at her opponent's chest and REEFING to ribcage those crunching hooks! Clubbing rights bash against Garner's temple and leftside ribs - Connelly putting a systematic beating on her trembling foe. Jenny G sliding along the ropes, clinching for respites, but this is bell to bell Connelly as she HEAPS on for points early.

R2: Garner fading back, batting Connelly's jab out of the air, fading back and NAILING JC THE COUNTER RIGHT HAND! Connelly wobbly butt, leaning over her feet in shabby stupor. Garner on her front foot, twists into a vicious left up underneath, ANOTHER one - Connelly grunting as she stumbles forward. Jenny G grim as she steps back in good order, slicing the short right from her shoulder in between Connelly's mitts, digging up into the breadbasket that double pump hook, then sliding off to the side. Connelly absorbing withering blasts, hunkering down and gutting it out - by the final minute SHE starts punching. Girls groggy, shoulder to shoulder - Connelly with the right hand tight to her cheek, turning her torso into scything hooks and beating Garner to the ropes. Jenny G just sopping it up in her side as she leans forward - ref stepping in to enforce the bell.

R3: THEY HAMMER AWAY! Expected skills contest falls by the wayside - both girls hurt, both gutting it out, going at each other with heartless determination. Connelly raking her girl with merciless hooks, clubbing Garner in the right flank, knocking the ex-champ in a wandering little semi-circle. Garner answering back with combinations - quick little chopping left/rights through the middle, then the shoulder dip/left hook gouges on the belly. Both girls stunned, hurting as they soak it up in turn - this thing is brutal through 3.

R4: Girls edge in together, Connelly turns on the hook, taking Garner high on the temple and JENNY G GOES DOWN! Delayed reaction as Garner staggers sideways with a pained expression, then legs give way as she clatters to all fours. Big bad Connelly rampage after 8 - she pushes her way into Garner at the ropes, lowering her head, palming Jenny G's arms out of the way and goes at that torso without restraint. Shuddering left and right uppercuts into the lungs of her foe - Garner trying to clinch, face in shock at the abuse. Second minute - Connelly running out of steam and Garner's catching her off the ropes! Jenny G turning on sharp, biting lefts and rights, picking up Connelly's face and putting her wobbly butt - JENNY C STOPS PUNCHING! Walking barrage off the ropes Garner - compact punching banging away on Connelly's face, backing her up in stupor. Connelly digging in, slugging back weak and wide - GARNER'S NAILING HER IN BETWEEN! Jenny G so slick as she lands the tight right, ducks under Connelly's sailing right, comes back a clipping left, ducks under Connelly's sweeping left and CONNELLY GOES DOWN! Jenny C reclining on her back, arms outstretched and it's OVER! Sensational gun fight goes Garner's way as Jenny G reels to her corner in tears. KO4 Jennifer Garner.

After: Jenny G consoles a distraught Jennifer Connelly in her corner - Garner pushed to the brink in a wild, unexpected shoot out with the hard hooking Oscar winner. "I think I went down on her first punch," recalls Garner foggily, "and I thought 'oh my God, can she HIT!'. I don't remember getting up from that - the whole first round is a blur." Girls just absolutely wrecked each other in a ruinous fight - 10 rounds of murderous powerpunching packed into 4 brief heats. Connelly coming up on the short end, but one of her most crowd pleasing efforts - she's a true sportswoman in defeat: "Hey, she came off the deck and stopped me," admits JC.
