Before”: Fishel recounting how she stepped up to turn back “The Campbell Threat”, avenging McAdams, and restoring order after a so-called “police action” against Neve. “Rachel’s everything the bantam division should be about,” Fishel gushes, “She’s dedicated, she’s professional, she’s good people in a world where all too often, bad people get rewarded. I’m just looking for a good, tough tussle—hard give and take, I know what Rachel’s capable of and she’s the kind of fighter who can force me to take my own game to the next level.”
McAdams clearing her throat, choosing her words carefully at the dais: “First, I want to thank Dani for this title shot and I’m going to try my hardest t make her regret it,” good-natured laughter from press/TE side of the dais, “But second, I just want to make this very clear to everyone: Neve Campbell is my responsibility—she’s my mess, I’ll clean her up. I appreciate Dani’s support—I appreciate everyone’s support in my war against Neve, but it’s MY war, Dani—you’re a really strong personality and you mean well, but this isn’t about you and Neve—it never was. You want to cheer me on from the sidelines, be my guest, but otherwise: butt out. Look to your titles Dani—that should be your number one priority, because when we get in that ring, every punch I throw will be designed to separate you from those belts.”
Fishel gaping as though slapped—only now realizing how focused Rachel is oin taking everything Dani’s got away from her. McAdams in Maple leaf motif sports vra, solid red trunks, white aerobics shoes/socks, red gloves with white knuckle area. Dani nin navy bandeau bikini with bra strap support, large baby-blue polkadots; white aerobics shoes/socks, navy gloves with white knuckle area. Interesting aside: Allison Mack offering the Mountees her services as Dani Fishel mimic in sparring—Mack doing brisk business these days by hooking up with Dani’s opponents (Allison one of the few who can generate similar pressure with a similar look in the ring)
During R1: Jab, jab, jab—steely-eyed McAdams cattle-prodding Dani’s noggin midring, stepping briskly left as Fishel bobs and weaves her way forward with a grin. Dani gets close: Rachel gets both hands on the champ, pushing her to McAdams’ left while Rache side-steps right—when it’s quick one-two in Dani’s left ear from the oblique angle as McAdams shoots from angles. Canuck never in one spot, never coming at Dani head-on—classic stick, move, and sting as Fishel is touched for a crisp R1 shutout.
R2: Jab, jab, jab—Dani crossing her arms when she leans low and forward; showing earmuff as she leans upright an back, hardpressed to weave Rachel’s thrusting stick. McAdams poker-faced—rotating clockwise until Dani penetrates, then jumping counter-clockwise while shunting Fishel aside with aggressive shoving. McAdams releasing on the right hand for stinging one-twos—Fishel rarely able to get close enough to pull the trigger on anything heavy through 2.
R3: Dani’s constant pressure finally rewarded—Rachel runs of of ring this round, allowing Fishel to hook ribcage with grinning vigour at the apron. McAdams showing poise, and well-spent hours in the gym: she goes to the uppercut, nipping Dani off the ropes with tidy little jerks from either hand, then spinning away before Fishel can pile on. More points for McAdams—Dani chasing, still hasn’t established her range or tempo through 3.
R4: Jab, jab, jab—everything flowing off the stick for McAdams: it’s getting her balance (nice wide stance, pushing off the ball of the right foot, planting form on the left leg); it’s establishing her range; it’s dictating pace and it’ setting up the right hand. Fishel lumping up—she’s moving her head well, but left side of her face looking puffy and scuffed—that eye starting to swell. Rache dropping those muscular, brisk right crosses in every so often, pounding away on the left eye in combination. Dani still coming forward, but running into punches, unable to get to Rachel’s chest consistently and disrupt the auburn haired technician. Bell: McAdams corner thrilled with her performance-clapping and smiling as she jogs back to corner. “Start working that gut, Rache,” Trainer says as he waters his girl, “start banging that body and backing her up—hard part’s over baby she’s yours now!”
R5: Dani lands firm—a thudding left hook taking Rache in the right hip; a swinging right looped around Rachel’s left, clubbing McAdams upside the head. Mac stands her ground, dips, picks Dani up the jagged fish-hook left uppercut under the chin—then Rache shifts to her right, chops a short right hand onto Dani’s left ear in sharp tic-toc reprisal. Fishel trying to come forward, but the lateral movement giving her all sorts of problems and now: Rachel’s going CHUP! CHUP! right/left to the midsection. Good, pumping licks—stou7t little left uppercuts off the front foot stalling Dani, getting her grumpy—then a little shift-right sets McAdams perfectly for the body work. Up and down, up and down—Rache stepping around, getting off thick n’juicy downstairs, then clouting Fishel forget-me-not hooks or right hands to the head. Second minute sees Dani take her first wincing, tentative steps backward—arms crossed, face scowling: she’s getting banged up. Third minute, Dani’s back actually touching ropes—stocky beauty all rung up, arms crossed against her upperchest and head to protect from uppercuts, laying bare that compact expanse of ribs, tummy and flank for Rachel to harvest. McAdams leaning into her work, braced on that front (left) leg--DIGGING into the offered meat. Been a long time since anyone’s taken Fishel to the ropes and swung this beefily. Bell: Rachel quickly turning away, briskly walking to her corner all business; Dani pained, creaky to her stool, busting up through 5.

R6: Jan, jab, jab—that constant refrain from Rachel gnawing at Dani, stitching into her face, breaking her down, numbing her. Fishel’s left eye swelling badly now, nose bleeding—she’s not seeing Rachel’s right hands well and McAdams is pounding straight one-twos o the head with clockwork precision. Dani bobbing and weaving, but getting hammered as Rache intercepts, then sidesteps, then counterattacks—forcing bitter retreat on boxing’s proudest pressure fighter, Fishel on her heels a different fighter—lifting her crossed arms to ward off punches, not getting off herself. At the ropes, Dani’s bending forward/leaning back, trying to bob and roll: Rachel hardhearted, raking straight one-twos up top, mixing in the left uppercut to take advantage of Dani’s forward tilt. Bell: More McAdams points as Rachel’s jackhammer punching leaves Dani dizzy at the ropes.
R7: Fishel forward with new urgency, she doesn’t need Syren to tell her she’s in trouble I this fight. Finally—the Fishel jab—stubby and shocking—disrupts Rachel enough for Fishel to step into her right hands and hooks with authority, McAdams taking her first serious punishment of the night—ringing rights on the jaw and robust hooks across the waist put a concerned Canadian on the ropes. Dani bustling—scrounging her way in with head and shoulders bumping and writhing—giving Rachel her first taste of hound-and-pound Fishel style at the ropes. McAdams grimacing, trying to push Dani back enough to lift the right uppercut in off the right foot—jostling, mauling stuff as Fishel can’t be backed off. McAdams toughness put to the test—she weathers a beating—body withstanding Dani’s ripping licks; legs holding firm; chin stout—Fishel takes the points strong, but can’t dampen Rachel’s spirits in the 7th.
R8: Dani jabbing-with, but Rachel still enjoying tactical air superiority via the stick and lateral movement—auburn haired vixen using every millimeter of height advantage to good effect tonight, Fishel very combative, taking hard poke and walking through it—but Rachel SO poised, shifting weight to rear (right) foot and walking Dani onto the intercept right uppercut, making Fishel pay for real-estate. Rachel’s also been very effective with pushing—getting both her hands on Dani and shunting her aide to turn her—Dani starting to gripe to the ref about Rachel’s clearly taking liberties in there. Close hard fought round: difference is McAdams’ ring generalship—they’re still basically fighting on Rachel’s terms through 8.
R9: Big, bad, banging Dani shutout. Rachel smeared to ropes, forced to cover up earmuff and suffer—Fishel just POURING it to her challenger with non-stop sheets of leather. Fishel pushing her head in between Rachel’s mitts—wriggling and writhing her shoulders as she reaches in on McAdams to stack up and pull down the guard. Little shrugging clouts bombard either side of McAdams’ skull as she tilts forward, then the big bombs land in behind either elbow, shaking Rachel’s chassis. Constant, suffocating press of Dani—still so vigorous after 9 hard rounds—Rachel teeth bared, back ropeburned as she’s roughly shoved and slugged. Final moments she Dani rip uncontested right hands in thick, repeat sequences to Rachel’s trembling midriff as McAdams doubles over. Rachel’s legs shivering, but refusing to give way as Dani pulls up sportsmanlike at the bell.
R10: Rachel jabbing, Rachel moving, Rachel dropping right hands and when Dani penetrates: Rachel picks her up the right uppercut off the right foot, textbook execution—McAdams turning her foe, being first, fighting off angles, getting Dani’s respect, backing her up at times, banging the body when it’s there—Rachel’s 100% focus truly awe-inspiring tonight as her form never wavers. Dani spluttering—trying so hard to knock Rachel out now—it’s the kiss of death as McAdams is able to take advantage of the ensuing openings. Poor Fishel not seeing the incoming—puffy face all startled when the right hand lands on the left cheek or chin, stocky legs stepping sadly in fence-post holes—Dani’s instinctive hook-receipt sweeping air as McAdams has already stepped around the danger. Bell: Girls swat gloves and hug—but you can see it in the cast of Dani’s shoulders and bleak disappointment on her face even before the official announcement: UD10 for the winner and NEW bantamweight queen—Rachel McAdams!
After: Raucous Mountee celebration as McAdams is feted in her corner; Dani on he stool getting Enswell and TLC after a tough, tough day in the office. “She just beat me every which way tonight,” a lumped up, banged up, scuffed up Dani offers with a postfight shrug. “She jabbed like a champ—and unlike a lot of boxers—she’s not flimsy or skittish. I actually got on her a bit and did some hittin’, but she slugged right back at me—I just couldn’t break her down. Obviously I could have been sharper—especially early. I think I let her build up way too much confidence and momentum—next time, I’ll definitely clamp down earlier and make her fight more Dani Fishel rounds.” McAdams beaming, hoisting heavy gold belts on her shoulders and hip—Rachel delivering on her potential after a few setbacks along the way—what could be next for the new champ? “There are so many offers out there, it’s hard to pick and choose,” McAdams breathes. “Obviously, it’s tempting to dangle the belts in Neve’s face and beat her in a title defence—that just night be what I need to break her back and finish this thing between us, so I have to consider it. But then again, I have an obligation to my fans and the FCBA fans in general, and I don’t know if Neve’s really a big enough star at this point to merit a title shot. I would also LOVE to Jessica Alba back in the ring and answer the beating she once gave me, denying her the titles in the process. I’ve just battered Dani—I’d love to cement my reputation against the other old-guard names like Eliza and Connelly—but I’d also like to put my stamp on young Turks like Evangeline Lilly. So it’s a lot to consider—I’m just going to sit down with my management and take a look at this thing from all sides and come up with something that’s good for everyone!”
