Before: Liu back at 110 and looking for a confidence boost—second tier cutey JLH fits the bill. Hewitt recognizes the danger, but also smells opportunity. “The thing is, I match up better against Mish Williams then I do Lucy, but I need a big name win under my belt to get Williams to look at me. I know this is a tougher fight for me than the championship bout would be, but Lucy’s coming in all banged up, doesn’t have a lot of momentum in her side—I think she’s flat discouraged, and ready to be plucked,”

Liu uncharacteristically charitable in her assessment of Hewitt, “I want to feel good at this weight again, get my rhythm back, but I don’t need a lay up. Jen’s come a long way—she’s got some skills. She’s the kind of fighter who steals rounds from you without hurting you—makes you feel comfortable until you suddenly run out of time. I just want to be sharp, bear down on her and get her out of there early—no surprises tonight folks.”

JLH in royal blue thin strap sports bra and boy cut shorts, LL in black push up, slick ponytail, leopard print boy cut trunks.

During R1: Liu relaxed, hands at her sides, menacing Hewitt by bending forward at the waist, twitching her shoulders to get the brunette jumpy. Jen with her dukes up, clearly anxious, not jabbing and it’s allowing Lucy to jump in potshots—punches from the thighs that swat to either ear, thud against the ribcage. Lucy depositing her leather, then gliding around either of Jen’s shoulders, turning the brunette gracefully with a hand at Hewitt’s belly or hip. Nice highlight moment midway through: Liu ducking to her left under Jen’s panicky right cross—Hewitt’s feet square up on follow through, Liu comes out of her crouch and pops a rising right hand to the mouth to drive Hewitt stomping back on her heels in shock. Pinpoint accuracy and booming single shot power from Liu in a shutout first.

R2: Liu with the left hand dangling, right cocked at stomach level, loping left, bending at the waist, leaning back on her hips—supple cobra stuff has Hewitt wide eyed and mesmerized. End of the first minute, Liu rolling her left shoulder to slip Jen’s right, immediately twists back with a slinging right to the brunette’s mouth and Hewitt’s legs lock up as she reels on the spot. Liu stepping right, come-along hook positioning Hewitt’s head for the perfect right uppercut on the chin—sharp head snap JLH and Jen drops hurt to all fours, shaking like newborn lamb. Liu lingering to delay the count, giving Jen a chance to regain her senses and take 8, the it’s all Lucy the rest of the way. Liu enjoying herself, loping to the right, using the lazy left hook to swat Hewitt into position for jolting straight right hands and clipping right uppercuts. Jen gets out of the round on wooden legs, busted up in the mouth, 1000 yard star in dazed eyes.

R3: Jen’s corner screaming at her for jabs, hurting youngster responds this round as Liu continues to clown and pose. Hewitt with her dukes high, eyes worried, but she pumps stick,. Preventing Lucy from simply jumping in whenever she feels like it. Lou circling, hands at her sides, she’ll bend forward and slips jabs, but she’s not offering much back this round. Forfeit round to Hewitt.

R4: Lucy lightly tapping her left mitt against Hewitt’s belly, just backhanding it out there, goading Hewitt into shooting right hands over the top. Liu nimble, using the ring, trying to get Jen to come forward, open up just a but more. Retreating to the ropes, Liu bends at the waist, puts her hands BEHIND her back and bobs side to side as Hewitt misses pokey little jabs. Suddenly, Liu rockets out of the crouch, slinging a whip-armed right hand to the temple and passing by Hewitt’s left shoulder as JENNIFER GOES DOWN! Hewitt laid out on her side, caught cold by the circus punch and numb from the waist down—her head pathetically off the canvas, eyes staring into the crowd as the count passes her by. Flashy KO4 Lucy Liu.

After: Liu treating herself to dessert, takes a rattled Jennifer love Hewitt for a meanspirited walk of shame—as much an intimidation KO as anything as most felt Hewitt could have continued. “What else is new,” says nonplussed guest commentator Debbe Dunning, “Liu annihilates a petrified opponent, I swear, anyone who just steps up to the plate and punches Lucy in the stomach will beat her every time.” What does Debbe think about the behind-the-back jack? “Oh, that was cool. It was pure Lucy, but really—she’s not going to get away with that crap against a real fighter.” Thandie Newton next for Liu as Lucy continues her comeback at flyweight.
