Before: Frigid atmosphere between Oscar winners at the podium. "If Jennifer minds her manners," snarls Angelina, "I'll parcel out the beating, take her ten and leave her face intact. If she even thinks about getting into it with me, I'm busting her up and taking her out - it's just that simple." Connelly more tactful, but no less confident. "Angelina's body isn't built to take a Jen Connelly pounding," says Jennifer, "that's always been the way to finish her. I want her crippled by the third or fourth - after that, it's up to her how long this thing goes." During R1: Flat footed sharpshooting, orthodox Jen's left shoulder pointed towards southpaw Jolie's right. Jolie right hand loose, low, left hand at her chest - she'll pat and backhand the right jab at Jen, slap righty at Jen's left, then suddenly drive in with single straight left potshots, turning over that back foot pretty on delivery. Connelly slightly more square, both hands up, batting her left out intercept Angelina's right and shooting her own right hand straight down into Jolie's midsection or square between her jugs. Hardest punch of the round - a Jolie left bingo on Jen's mouth - moves Connelly back a couple of steps and hurts her - no follow up from Jolie however as she's content to continue the prowling, probing sniper's attack.

R2,3: Jen steps up the pace a bit, content to slap jabs and trade single potshotting power blows, but also more apt to step around in these rounds, use the ring a little bit. Nothing fancy, Connelly directing hooks and straight right hands against Jolie's rigid ribcage, right flank and buxom cleavage, touching up Jolie's body as promised, stepping around to turn her. Jolie more famous for her footwork than Jen, but AJ's not using it - pretty much flat footed, using supple upperbody bends and a parrying right hand to block and roll, looking for left hand counters. Connelly busier, more consistent, takes both rounds, lays a fine foundation in Jolie's midsection for later rounds.

R4: Angelina firms up the jab, no longer distracting or slapping it, but really snapping it up off her hip, lancing through Jen's guard. Jolie mounting little sliding forward rushes - jabs and darting left hands, getting to Connelly's face before Jen can step out of range. Connelly's output drops, but she's still depositing hooks amidships - diligently carving out what she hopes will be decisive advantage down the stretch.

R5: Jolie's pinpoint attack really takes effect this round - she lands several spearing straight left hands to Jennifer's pretty face and stout chin this round. Jolie boxing calmly, at range, using a little lope-step to change up distance, or slide-pivot to her right, but basically she's flat footed, fixing Jen's position with the jab and nailing her that pretty straight left. Connelly tasting blood, busted up in her lower lip - hands are up, but she's looking befuddled - she's getting cracked hard shots to her head, not answering back - Jolie really dictating this round. Judges score it 10-9, but Angelina easily dominant enough to have gotten 10-8 in other jurisdictions.

R6: AJ really focused in now - stepping in with her up-jab off the hip, slicing the left straight through to Jen's weary chin - Connelly starting to unravel. JC falters woozy to the ropes, trying to establish a high, tight guard - Jolie pounds her way through it with a slicing flurry of right hooks and left crosses, spilling Jennifer to her right along the strands. Jolie stepping with, touching Jen the jab in the shoulder - ducking down and swinging a wide left firm to the body to sit Connelly into the ropes, then it's another slashing flurry of lefts and rights - Connelly's desultory defence getting shredded as Jolie scores. Jen hurt by a pounding left straight off her face, stoops in to clinch - Jolie strokes her a cruel right in the gut, then a tidy, licking right hook in the temple, steps to the side and JEN SPRAWLS TO ALL FOURS! Connelly busted up, staring, lower lip quivering - she beats the count and ON COMES JOLIE! Angelina lets her clever hands go - tucking in slick body shots, drifting home pounding lefts, skidding right hooks off Jen's temple and THE REF STEPS IN! Connelly blubbering, out of it - TKO6 Angelina Jolie.

After: Nothing to choose between class-acts through 4 - Jen working the body, Jolie headhunting, but everything changed in the 5th. Connelly just coming undone under a sustained, patient blitz of accurate Jolie left hands - Jen seems almost in awe when she comes around: she was really dismantled tonight. Jolie glowing with deadly lustre - the picture of efficiency in this bout. "That's Jen Connelly taken care of," smiles Jolie in postfight, oily with confidence on the night.
