For two rounds this was a real give-and-take scrap with Kelly brawling her little heart out to turn back a very determined Amy B. Kelly doesn’t like to brawl, doesn’t like pressure: as both women got rocked in rousing early action, it became clear that only Brenneman had the stomach for this fare.

After the second, the fight became one long, painful miserable retreat for Kelly as Amy attacked with scrounging, hungry, non-stop slugging each and every round. The Rutherford corner was subdued during breaks, with Kelly wincing and looking despondent, and everyone concerned knowing that it just wasn’t her night. By contrast, Amy was bright-eyed and upbeat on her stool, quivering to get back to work, and she went at Kelly with the sort of gusto one usually associates with ingénues 20 years younger and 15 pounds lighter than the brunette.

Rutherford was beaten to her knees twice in the 6th, and despite denying Amy the stoppage, it was clear Kelly was in survival mode. Every Brenneman assault thereafter was met with sullen Rutherford clinching as the blonde covered face-in-gloves, absorbed, then tied up for ref’s breaks. There was some punching from Kelly down the stretch, but none of it meaningful or truly competitive: Amy was too strong, too aggressive and too single-minded in her pursuit to allow any uprising.

Beat up Kelly takes the red-eye back to New York that very night—knees up in her seat, arms hugging sore ribs. Amy parties in L.A.—joined by her castmates from “Women’s Murder Club” and other friends, none of who are big fans of Rutherford.
