BEFORE: Dueling cougars each carrying a brand new cop show into this year's spring line up...network logic demands they fight. "I'm excited about my new show, and I'm excited about fighting Maria," Poppy says in prefight. "It's a great chance to separate our shows in the minds of viewers, and I definitely want to prove that ours is the superior brand." Bello also anxious to make a splash...movie star confident of victory over the small-screen veteran. "Poppy's a good test - a natural test, considering the similar demographic our shows are going after," says media-savvy Maria at podium. "It still comes down to women competing head to head, and I'm pretty confident that the Popster's going to come up short. I'll have a better sense of her after I've hooked her to the body a few times...either she's in for the distance, or she'll be looking to quit. Either way - I'm good!" Poppy in royal blue bikini top; white cashmere crochet bottoms; small white mitts; red hair drawn back into loose bun, bangs framing face; Maria in yellow bikini top, green bottoms; small yellow gloves; blonde hair drawn back into bun, bangs framing face.

During R1: Similar no-nonsense styles - girls jabbing from compact crouches - edging in shoulder to shoulder, working hard in the pocket. Hooks and right uppercuts the rule for both - fighters bumping with lead left shoulders in rhythm with the punching. Poppy a little busier, more than holding her own with hook-artist Bellow, and Poppy's right hand's finding the mark upside Bello's head in a competitive first.

R2: Same again: fighters quickly seek each other out, settle into fighting crouches, work busily and in compact fashion bell to bell. Once again it's Poppy out-hustling Maria - doubling up hooks tummy/tits; using the extended left elbow to nudge and prop; chopping in short rights to chin, or scraping the tidy right uppercut. Bello landing all the same sorts of punches, only less volume - round to Poppy.

R3: Same close-quarters crouches: compact, chopping shots back and forth. Maria spicing things up with a hacking right hand over Poppy's left shoulder - smoking red head behind left ear, getting her off balance. Maria's hook finally cashing in Poppy's breasts with authority, and Bello's burying an effective shoveling right in under Poppy's left breast. Monty outworked, looking frazzled: movie star blonde rights the ship, commands the round in the third.

R4: Poppy with a stiff, stubby left jab, poking Maria into bob-on-the-spot earmuff: blonde girl on the defensive as redhead expands her playbook. Pop working off the jab; placing digging right hands beneath Maria's left breast; dipping-left to reach hooks down behind Maria's right elbow. Bello suffering, unable to get off, giving ground: she's eventually put wobbly butt against the ropes under a sustained, patient Poppy Mo attack.

R5: Maria relying heavily on her hook - lunging with it, sweeping it up from her thigh to catch Montgomery heavily about the ear/jaw. Poppy punched out of her stance, worried and blinking...she's hurt, showing leg to relieve pressure. Maria a little blonde bully walking her red head down - punching Poppy a stubby lead right between the breasts, then turning over the hook Minka Kelly style to slug Monty ropeside. Furious engagement on the apron as girls grind foreheads and dig double-time to opposing guts. Crowd-pleasing exchange sees Poppy stabilize herself, giving as good as she's getting during an intense Maria Bello finishing run. Bello wins the round, but she's badly gassed - mouthbreathing, walking hands-on-hips back to her corner.

R6: Poppy doubling the jab to close, turning over the short-range hook - she's in there shoulder to shoulder, hitting Maria hard. Bello grimacing, slow to react: Poppy triggering swift, short, accurate hooks, scoring repeatedly against Maria's face and temple, putting blonde girl wobbly-butt. Bello pawing her left at Poppy's chest, trying to locate her...meanwhile, Monty's teeting off, hooking hard to jaw or jugs, then cleaning up choppy little right hands on Maria's left eye. Sustained peppering has Maria wobbling on the spot, starting to loosen up...digging pair of hooks in her breadbasket buckles blonde knees, leaving her helpless. Right uppercut to chin catches Maria short n' clean...she's half asleep on her feet, then slowly sinking down to all fours in shock. Maria B beats the count at 10: ref waves it off...that's TKO6 Poppy Mo in workmanlike fashion.

After: Poppy smiling happily...good firm win over a close-on-paper competitor one of Monty's better outings. "I feel like it could be my time to shine this fall," Poppy says in postfight. "Separating myself from Maria was a crucial first step - really opens the door for fights against Courtney Cox, Julianne Margulies, even Demi Moore and Lori Loughlin. I feel like I can dominate the cougar space, and parley that into rankings and championship bids, so I'm in a great position right now!"
