BEFORE: "I don't know what happened against Summer," Piper shrugs in prefight, "she weaved some freaky mojo in that fight and I just didn't adjust to it, but this notion that I can't handle bendy-backed lanky-bodies is ridiculous. Summer was an off night: I'm stronger than Jessica, my legs are sturdier and my average punch is way harder. I'll take this girl into the corners and break her down, and that should put an end to all this crap I'm hearing from so-called 'experts'!" Alba cool in rebuttal, shrewdly assessing Piper's post-Glau emotional state. "I think we have to face facts," Jess says at podium, "Summer exposed Piper. Perabo didn't adjust because she couldn't adjust...and I'm going to be more of the same! I'm just like Summer, only I hit a ton, work the body, and I'm way faster and better. And hotter of course, but duh: anyone can see that." Piper in Covert Affairs bikini - pinks and mauve horizontal bars; hair in shoulder length waves; white gloves. Jess in Into the Blue neon blue bikini top with stripey bottoms; white gloves; long low ponytail.

During R1: Jess extending the left straight to Piper's guard, measuring her with a stiff arm...then pitching in the right - Perabo blocking on a high guard. Piper trying to weave underneath and carve punches across Jessica's ribs/belly: Alba loping away from such attempts, circling to regroup. Jessica flinging out a backhand jab from the hip, right hand cocked to deliver crosses if Piper hangs back, or uppercuts if Piper tries to penetrate. Perabo showing earmuff, then crossed arm, moving her head, always trying to press forward but finding limber Jess an awkward read. Down the stretch, Jessica lures Piper to a corner, suddenly flapping both hands underneath at the Perabo tummy, bunching Piper up. Limber flurry enough to win Jess the round, though it's a close, competitive heat.

R2: Jess pursing her lips as she walks Piper in and flaps her hands underneath to gut - Alba's elbows in, hands starting at her thighs as she churns away. Perabo absorbs in crouch, then lunges to hook Jessica's mouth: Piper's one clocking blast equivalent in force to Alba's half-a-dozen hup-hups. Alba lopes away, walks Piper in, flurries all limber at her body: Perabo absorbs, then comes up hooking and crossing, clobbering Jess across her chin and pate. That's the way of it - Jessica finding spots on the canvas from which to mount these lapping flurries: Piper bulling through, slugging compact power up top to take the round.

R3: Classic Jess: she rolls willowy to her right with Piper's right hand, comes back with bolo right uppercut to Perabo's chin: there go Piper's legs and she's wobbly-butt. Cue lashing, buggywhipping beatdown...poor Perabo stumbling forward, trying to close and clinch: Jess using her legs to sidestep, lashing her mitts against Piper's ribs with cruel sidearm licks and bolos. Perabo's legs strong as advertised - she takes a vicious pasting throughout the round - often staggered, but never going down. Case in point...Piper stooping forward, arms crossed against her chest...Jess brings limber lefts and rights up from her thighs, rolling/stroking the punches across Perabo's face to slap her stupid. Piper eyes closed, facing into the shellack...Jessica punching with pursed-lip aggression scores mightily, but can't drop her sturdy foe.

R4: Jess doing that body-lather routine at the half way point - her elbows in, hands lifting up and into Perabo's belly: Piper finally gets perfect lunging leverage onto the answer-hook, clocking Jessi's chin hard to port and DROPPING ALBA TO HER BACK! Jess almost cross-eyed as she picks head up off canvas, body rickety - she beats the count on trembling stems! Beatdown chance for Piper as she finally shoves Jess into ropes...Perabo putting top of her head on Jessi's chest while bashing away old-school at the body and arms beneath. Alba grimacing, getting romped, but she's cute enough to tie up here, not taking the beating Perabo had hoped for by the bell.

R5: Jess loping away from contact...Piper in hot pursuit, but using a smart little knock-jab to keep Jess from potshotting. Perabo able to jab Jess to ropes, then get on her in spots...Alba grumpy, holding left across her gut, right at her chest as she slips and rolls in the pocket. Consistent damage done by patient, stalking Perabo...she's getting quality time on Jess at ropes, getting some work done until Alba can tie up for breaks.

R6: Piper hounding-and-pounding Jess along the ropes...Alba with right side turned into ropes, using left shoulder to push on Piper as Perabo's slamming away to body. Once again, that slick counter right hand from Alba turns the tables - she gets it from the closed stance, picking Perabo up hard under the chin and nearly sitting her down. Piper's curvy legs hold her up, but she stops punching...Jess loads up the buggywhip right, smiting away sidearm on Piper's left flank, or chopping it in overhand when Piper's bending forward. Alba warned for cruel kidney punching throughout, but she's unrepentant - totally focussed on getting Piper hurt.

R7: Piper recovers well, hounds Jess to ropes, systematically reducing lithe vixen in the pocket. Jessica rolling and twisting with the shots, not getting hit clean on the chin, but that limber body of hers is getting battered. Jess looping her left around Piper's head, her right around Piper's left elbow and pulling her into loose clinches...Perabo digging away righty until ref actually pulls the girls apart for breaks.

R8: Jess lolling on ropes, showing face-in-gloves, rolling her torso or laying back into the cables...she's starting to stiffen and slow. Piper just on Jessica and at her - pushing her in her shoulders, batting her in the body and flanks, shoveling right hands into breadbasket; hooking behind the elbow. It's all too much...ashen-faced Alba turned with left side in ropes, taking right hands sidearm in her gut as Piper's backside's shuddering side to side with her punching delivery...DOWN GOES JESSICA! Alba groaning, sinking to all fours...she's a panting, used up beauty through 8.

R9: Jess getting pounded along ropes again, leaning with right shoulder against cables, tucking her chin behind left shoulder, using that raised left elbow to ward off Piper's punches. Perabo pressing - especially to the body, though her right hands are caroming off Jessi's left shoulder as well. Suddenly, Jess times that counter right bolo-uppercut out of the closed stance, punching Piper's mouthpiece 3 feet into the air! Piper wobbly butt, stooping forward in wounded earmuff: Jessica over to offense with those lethal buggywhip and bolo right hands. Piper dug hard to the body and flank as she stumbles after Jess, but Perabo able to recover during the round, hooking back at Jessica's chin from the crossed-arm by the bell.

R10: Piper closes the show, taking Jess to ropes, beating her with cold-blooded, consistent fury. Piper using head/shoulders/elbows to prop and push, then clubbing away in short, bashing lefts and rights. Jess groaning, face distressed - she's showing the Mayweather defence, trying to bump with her left shoulder, or push off with the extended left elbow, hoping for another slick right hand counter to steal the fight. Doesn't happen: Piper batters lissome Jess along the ropes, keeping her pinned down bell to bell. Comes back hard-working UD10 Piper Perabo.

After: Redemption for Piper, and one of the biggest paydays of her career: super-starlet Jess Alba still one of the biggest money fights on the circuit. "She hits a lot harder than Summer," Piper says in postfight, "and she caught me a few times, but it's like I said: my legs are too strong, my body too sturdy for Alba. Once I got into rhythm and started owning her on the ropes, it was really just a matter of beating her up in the pocket. She's slick on the counter, so it wasn't problem-free, but everytime she clipped me, my legs absorbed her power. I'm happy - beating Jess is a high water mark for me, and I want to keep the ball rolling!"
