BBU STABLE TOURNAMENT: PRELIMINARY ROUND

At 2-1-0, Beever’s Babes lightweight Tiana Benjamin has been installed by the odds makers as the favouite, something that Foxfire Atlantic Boxing’s Chantelle Houghton who is 0-2 thus far in the BBU. “I am not interested in what so-called ‘experts’ think--I KNOW I can beat Tiana!” Tiana smiles modestly: “It’s nice to be favored, but I always say ‘you have to fight the fight to be the winner’.”

Round 1

The two move to midring and go right at it. Chantelle pumping hard to Tiana’s belly while Tiana puts blue gloves into blonde belly. Chantelle showing great determination starts moving counterclockwise and shifts her fire towards Tiana’s head. TIANA GOES DOWN. Tiana caught upside the head by a right hand blast from the FAB girl, stumbles sideways with the blonde in pursuit raining shots at Tiana’s back and head. Referee jumps in to force Chantelle back, while Tiana careens to the ropes and sinks to her knees, arms draping over the middle strands. Referee gets Chantelle back to the neutral corner then hurries back to start the count. Tiana uses the ropes to pull herself up and beats the count.Chantelle heads back to resume the attack, but Tiana has her jab up and brings the rush to a sudden halt as the blonde’s head is snapped back by a shot to the mouth and a second to the chin. Tiana springs in with a right cross that sweeps beautifully to Chantelle’s left cheek jerked her head around in a photogenic spray of sweat. Follow-up right uppercut to the belly to the double the FAB blonde over and left hook over Chantelle’s guard to her RIGHT cheek. Chantelle crashes over backwards and lays there momentarily stunned. Crowd screaming with excitement as FAB blonde rolls to her side, then to her knees and then with agonizing slowness, she rises to her feet, shaking her head trying to clear the cobwebs. She’s beaten the count, but can only go head-in-gloves to ride out Tiana’s follow through to the bell. Exciting round with both fighters down, but Tiana edges Chantelle out on cards.

Round 2

Tiana comes out and quickly takes the initiative with a steady punching attack on Chanetelle. However the FAB blonde shows good defense and a nice jab so that it’s not a one-sided round. Both fighters seem to be using the round to recover from the fury of the opening stanza, but Tiana is clear winner on points.

Round 3

Apparently both fighters have regained their breath and at the tell rush right at each other in a thrilling exchange that has the crowd leaping from their seats in excitement. Blonde pummels the black girl back to the ropes and really puts glove into belly as Tiana writhes desperately trying to escape. Tiana finally thinks to clinch to buy herself a respite from the referee, but Chantelle keeps at that belly. Tiana’s butt touches rope and the Beever’s Babe lunges forward shooting a piston-like series of punches into blonde belly. Chantelle shuddering and doubling up. Now gets it to the left and right cheeks in rapid succession as Tiana unloads with desperation lefts and rights. Chantelle falls to the canvas landing hard on her right side. Tiana steps back as the dazed blonde takes an 8 count to clear her head before rising. Tiana comes in cautiously, perhaps still feeling Chantelle’s leather in her tummy. Probably not a good idea as it gives Chantelle the chance to recover and go over on the attack with a flurry aimed at Tiana’s head. As Tiana covers up, her belly comes vulnerable and Chantelle pounds in the leather. Tiana groans and sinks to her butt, clutching her midsection. She beats the count, but Chantelle has taken her first round as she harries Tiana to the bell.

Round 4

Tiana looks to be hurting to that battered belly. She’s hunched forward protectively and uses her jab to keep Chantelle at bay. Chantelle eager to build on her R3 performance can’t land punches to the body thanks to Tiana’s guard, but she has some success when she shifts her attention to the black girl’s head and face. Tiana’s face now starting to look at lumped up as Chantelle’s (who’s cheekbones are seriously swollen from Tiana’s earlier punching). Chantelle takes her second round and that should tie things up on the judges’ cards.

Round 5

Tiana comes out slugging in a clear attempt to regain control of this fight. Chantelle had been coming out hard herself hoping to continue her comeback and her defenses are loose as she joins in the slugging. Tiana now working those cheekbones, snapping the blonde’s head around, even though Chantelle is making her pay for it with more shot to the belly. Tiana grits her teeth against the blazing inferno that is her midsection to concentrate on hurting the tenacious blonde. Finally plows a straight right into Chantelle’s mouth and nose, splitting lip and nose. Chantelle retreats in confusion as Tiana is on her slamming in the shots to her opponent’s bleeding face. Chantelle jabbing frantically, but inaccurately as Tiana dances around and pounds blonde face. Then she steps forward to plant a right uppercut under Chantelle’s chin. Head snaps back spraying Tiana with blood and sweat and CHANTELLE HOUGHTON IS DOWN! The blonde topples backwards to land with thunderous impact that leaves the blonde starfished AND OUT COLD. Referee takes one look at the crimson masked sleeping face of the fallen Chantelle Houghton and waves this off. KO5 Tiana Benajamin.

After: Tremendously exciting victory for Tiana Benjamin who looks on with concern as Foxfire Atlantic attendants gently bring Chantelle Houghton back to conscious and treat her injuries. Much to everyone’s relief, Chantelle again proves her toughness by not only recovering quickly, but shaking a surprised Tiana’s hand and saying frankly: “She beat me fair and square.” Tiana herself admits: “Chantelle gave me a lot more fight than I expected. I’m just glad I’ll be going on to the next round.”
