BBU STABLE TOURNAMENT: PRELIMINARY ROUND

The second preliminary fight of the BBU Championship tournament in the welterweight division features Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Double A Boxing) and Abigail "Abbey" Clancy (Kear's Kats). The fight is scheduled for ten rounds.

Both women have lost all their fights so far (Sophie four and Abbey three) so it will be a memorable day for one of them as a maiden victory is on the cards. Abbey Clancy gets an extra support in the stands as her husband, English footballer Peter Crouch is in the stands watching her wife slug it out for glory. We can imagine it can only help the hitherto lacklustre model, but time will tell the truth.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor wearing a black push-up bra, black mini-skirt and red gloves. Abbey Clancy wearing a white one-piece swimsuit and black gloves.

Round 1:

Very nervous start from both sides as the lack of confidence seems to have taken over. Girls circle around the ring with some modest single-punch efforts which can trouble no one even in the flyweight division. The crowd doesn't like that at all and starts to whistle. Neither girl seems affected by that as they stare at each other with some anxiety. Abbey unleashes a couple of weak punches right at the end, but Sophie jumps back and waits for the bell.

Round 2:

More aggressive start from the blonde who tries a fancy left-right combination that Sophie barely manages to avoid. Abbey goes for the follow up but hits her rival's elbows rather than ribs. The Kear's Kats clearly have a lot of work ahead with Clancy as she's not showing the right skills early in this contest. More solid punches from her also land on the brunette's forearms rather than midsection and Sophie clinches for the break. Abbey tries some wild swing at her rival's head but misses again as Sophie goes for a low jab that catches the blonde off-guard. However there's no follow up and Abbey jumps back unpunished. It's not the best display of boxing and one can imagine why neither of these two have tasted victory so far. Sophie tries to step forward at her rival, but the blonde model easily circles away from her along the ropes until the bell.

Round 3:

Finally some aggression from Ellis-Bextor. She goes for a low combination that hits Clancy's gloves, but a high swing catches the blonde in the side of the head. Abbey's head jumped back there and Peter Crouch is up on his feet looking upset. Sophie's follow up is chaotic and a wild flurry of punches misses Clancy's head altogether allowing the blonde to clinch and push the singer away. Sophie isn't pleased that her attack was tamed, but tries some more jabs and dominates this round with single jabs and blows that Abbey is forced to guard. No really big punches until the bell but Ellis-Bextor does well enough to take this round and draw level after Clancy took the second one.

Round 4:

More attack from Sophie and a nice combination catches Abbey in the stomach. The brunette pushes her rival into the corner, avoiding the clinch and unleashes several jabs to the midsection and head. Clancy's guard is holding up well and there's not enough power behind Sophie's punches to break it apart. However Abbey isn't doing anything significant in this round and allows the brunette to punch her at will. She than finally clinches and escapes from the corner as more whistles are being heard from the crowd. Finally the bell stops the misery and Sophie can be the only one happy after that round as she takes it with ease.

Round 5:

Abbey still looks pretty fresh though, she's been passive in the previous two rounds but Sophie didn't cause a lot of damage. The brunette singer thinks of stepping in again on her blonde foe, but Abbey ducks low, steps around from the side and catches the brunette in the ribs twenty seconds into the round. Sophie is clearly surprised and allows Clancy to land a couple of more big blows to the ribs before jumping back. Abbey hassles her into the corner and finally some real haymakers come into play. Sophie covers her face, but a fine uppercut breaks through it and catches her in the jaw. Abbey leans her head forward and hits the brunette's face in the cheek. Sophie manages to stay upright but that uppercut clearly rattled her and she bends on Clancy seeking survival. She throws her arms around Abbey who pummels her stomach with some urgency. The referee finally breaks them apart but Sophie has been cracked badly in this round. She's happy to avoid any further action and Abbey is livid at chasing her around the ring. Finally the bell sounds and a round clearly in the blonde's favor.

Round 6:

Some loud cheers for Clancy as she had the best round of the lot in the previous one. She immediately goes after the distraught Ellis-Bextor and more punches land on the brunette's stomach early in round six. Sophie tries to cover it off but as she does, Abbey throws a big combination to the head that sends her flying on the ropes. The crowd is finally enjoying some proper boxing action as Clancy has turned her luck around! More big blows to the head and the brunette's guard is torn to shreds. She lets her arms drop and Abbey catches her in the jaw half-way through the round. Sophie slumps to her knees and is counted to six before getting up. Abbey has that evil spark in her eye and follows up with another combination to the stomach, Sophie clinches her but her defence is all over the place and Clancy is turning her stomach into a mush in the sixth round. Thirty seconds on the clock remaining and the struggling brunette goes down again! Referee counts her to eight and allows to continue once she gets up. Sophie's face is turned red from exhaustion and Abbey tries to baffle her with a devilish grin and some fake punch attempts at the end of the round. She smiles back at the distraught singer and tells her:
- I'll get you in the next one, honey!
Sophie looks in some pain and doesn't bother to even look at her rival once she heads back to her corner. Meanwhile Abbey has spotted her husband in the crowd and waives to him in a relaxed gesture.

Round 7:

Ellis-Bextor very game to be still on her feet, but the fighting spirit is not there anymore. Clancy steps forward and throws a couple of well-placed hooks that crush off the brunette's head and send her onto the ropes. Sophie tries to escape but Abbey traps her in the corner and unleashes the final destruction. Several punches land on Sophie's stomach who is moaning with pain and accepting the punishment with her eyes closed. Abbey throws in two-three jabs before glancing over at her opponent's face to see whether she is still able to take more pounding. It's an extremely one-sided display of fury in the seventh round and the referee finally stops this slaughter with one minute and ten seconds gone on the clock. TKO Abbey Clancy in R7!

Post-Fight:

Sophie slumps on her knees and wraps both her arms around her stomach as she's been completely blown away by the blonde model in the second half of this fight. Abbey waives to the crowd in delight and enjoys her maiden boxing victory with husband Peter Crouch leading the applause. Sophie finally gets up but is still bend forward holding her stomach and in real discomfort as she walks back to her corner. Abbey gives her a brief b###h stare and continues her victorious walk around the ring. It didn't look like she's got the strength to knock the brunette out early on, but Kear's Kats will enjoy this success which should bring more confidence into their fighter after all the previous losses. Meanwhile Sophie Ellis-Bextor has lasted impressive seven rounds after over six months lay-off period but is still winless in BBU competition and ranks right down near the bottom of welterweight division. It's tough to predict when she'll be able to finally celebrate a maiden success - if at all.

Abbey Clancy now faces fellow blonde model Alex Curran in the quarterfinals with both women married to professional footballers who were once teammates at FC Liverpool. It's not hard to figure out that will perhaps make their fight even more vicious than a football match!

Final result: Abbey Clancy def. Sophie Ellis-Bextor TKO7.
