Prefight comments from Danni Minogue

Well I am not game to say the wrong thing about Pilar Rubio. She was fantastic in her debut against Dowding and really only lost the fight in the final round. Natalie Bassingthwaighte tried to get the jump on the accomplished Alesha Dixon in her Ashes fight and went down punching in the 4th. She will need to be patient against Rubio.

Round 1

Both girls tight and compact circling each other and looking for the open. NatBass lurching forward and jab the torso and bouncing out, then Rubio doing the same to more effect. Hard uppercut to the sternum has NatBass yelping and backing up. Rubio patient, waiting for another opening, NatBass reluctant to advance as both girls through air shots towards the body. NatBass pounces throws to hooks to no avail and retreats as Rubio advances and hooks the ribs catching NatBass with two hard shots . Now the Aussie retreats as those shots hurt her and Rubio continues to back her up with hard body shots all the way to the bell.

Kylie: Good to see Nat being a little more patient but she isn’t trouble Rubio with those body shots. Rubio on the other hand is landing hard punches and once again we are in the same position with the Spanish girl leading the way.

Round 2

Rubio taking her opportunities early, getting NatBass on the retreat with those same hard hooks into her ribs. NatBass not disgraced, landing a couple of hard jabs on the torso but Rubio keeps coming forward laying leather on skin. Midway through, NatBass dancing feet get her out of trouble but she has been on the move for a solid minute and slows for the final section. Rubio tracks her down and again works those big strong hooks into NatBass ribs. LEFT AND RIGHT HOOK to the rib cage have NatBass squinting and wincing, mouth wide, breathing hard as one final RIGHT HOOK is buried in her gut and DOWN GOES BASSINGTHWAIGHTE! The small European contingent on their feet as the Spaniard does it again for the Lioness Club. NatBass in a heap at her feet, nursing a bruised belly, manages to get to her feet at 7 but she is sucking hard. Rubio menacing her into the corner, as NatBass cops a pasting to the bell. A Rubio UPPERCUT on the chin right at the bell sits NatBass on her butt after the bell.

Danni: I cannot watch this anymore sis. Baudo has left the box; he is ringside with Elle, as Nikki attends to Nat in the corner. That uppercut has opened a nice little cut under the chin.

Kylie: Rubio is actually standing mid ring. She hasn’t even gone back to her corner. How confident is that. Baudo is screaming at his girls, things are falling part here for the Downunder girls.

Danni: Maybe this is the Lioness Club way of paying Baudo back for making them wait in the rain for three hours and then postponing the card for another week.

Kylie: Baudo with the towel in his hand but Elle reefs it off him muttering something like “this needs to happen”. Interesting goings on in the Downunder corner.

Round 3

NatBass slow up off her stool, can’t get out of the corner before Rubio storms in and pops her head back with three vicious jabs. NatBass guard somewhere around her chest expecting more body shots. Rubio helps herself to the Aussies face blasting shots into her wilting target. Left and right uppercuts sending her knees to jelly, another two uppercuts switching out the lights, left hook, right hook, NatBass head snaps with each shot before Rubio finishes her with a blistering RIGHT HOOK and DOWN GOES BASSINGTHWAIGHTE! The ref doesn’t even count, it’s over! KO3 Pilar Rubio!

Danni: What a win by Rubio. That is an impressive KO victory from a girl who is getting in the ring for the second time. We have used these words so many times tonight, Destruction, Demolition, it’s scary but that is exactly what this is.

Kylie: Nat is getting up slowly which is a better sign than those who have fallen before her tonight. Grave concerns in the Downunder corner as Baudo, Elle and Nikki have a serious word. But look take nothing away from Pilar Rubio, that was just brilliant right from the outset.

Danni: The Lioness Club just one fight away from stitching this one up in an absolute clinical display of boxing so far. 4-1 to the Europeans and Downunder are spending a lot of time on the mat.
