Prefight comments by Danni Minogue

Rachael Taylor said her fight against Rochelle Wiseman was one she would rather forget and then jokingly remarked that she actually doesn’t remember it anyway. She was assaulted in the second round after appearing to dominate the first. Zoe Salmon comes into this after losing her first BBU fight to Sarah Harding in similar fashion. This should be an even fight, but I’m tipping a Lioness victory after what I have witnessed tonight.

Round 1

Both girls working behind the jab. Taylor throwing 1,2 jabs at the face followed by 1,2 jabs at the body. Salmon content to stand and box but she is taking shots and already has swelling on the left eye. Salmon landing a few jabs of her own but takes a SOLID RIGHT JAB to that left eye followed by two hard hooks to the body and that has her backing away. Taylor tracking her down, leading with that quick right jab and following it with the right hook. Salmon’s jab working to more effect late in the round, there’s the bell.

Kylie: A great start by Taylor. She seems to have a little bit more reach with the jab and doesn’t mind mixing up her punches top and bottom.

Danni: Salmon took the fight to her though and she worked herself back into the round. Very even round.

Round 2

Straight jabs from Taylor. Salmon more aggressive though. Solid left from Salmon. Uppercut to the chin and Taylor is on the defense now. Both girls landing good right hands there. Salmon swelling around the left eye getting worse. Taylor throwing good punches but leaving her head there. Salmon landing hard jabs and RIGHT UPPERCUT which rattles the Aussie followed by a CRUNCHING HOOK to the body and Taylor is hurt. A little bit of blood from the Taylor nose as the bell ends a good round to Salmon.

Kylie: Salmon the aggressor that round, landing good scoring punches. Taylor just leaving herself open after her jabs.

Round 3

Taylor ducking under a flurry of Salmon hooks. Great attack from both girls early. Salmon keeping Taylor at bay with the jab. Girls opening up a little bit. Taylors head moving around now bobbing under Salmon’s punches. Taylor now getting on top with much more movement, jabs at the head and hooks to the body. NICE STRAIGHT JAB by Taylor! Salmon has a black eye on the way. Solid jabs in return from Salmon. Taylor back on the charge, drilling jabs through the Salmon guard and fires in two quick uppercuts that have the Salmon head popping up and down. Another QUIKFIRE UPPERCUT from Taylor stuns Salmon who tries to shimmy shake it off. Taylor taking some good punches to the face at the bell.

Danni: Big shiner for Salmon and the right eye is also swelling now. When Taylor goes aggressive she lands much harder punches.

Kylie: She is definitely scoring with more power shots at the moment but Salmon hasn’t back away from the contest scoring late in the round.

Round 4

Salmon backing away, great attack Taylor, digging punches into the body. Salmon on the ropes, taking a few hard shots, but fights her way off with good counter shots and continues getting in behind her jab. Both girls going at it near the ropes. Quick exchanges of jabs to the face and body shots. Neither girl giving ground until a well-earned rest and not a lot of punching mid-way through. Final minute, great uppercut Salmon, BIG LEFT HOOK Taylor, she’s firing body shots at Salmon who is taking a pasting and cops a BIG LEFT HOOK to the ribs which puts her to her knee after the bell.

Danni: Great round from the girls. Evenly matched.

Kylie: A couple of big blows from Taylor at the end probably have that round in Taylors favour but I wouldn’t like to be scoring this fight.

Round 5

Searching jabs Salmon, good left and right jab Salmon, Taylor backing away and swinging at the body. Toe to toe mid ring, exchanging hooks and jabs to the face and body. Salmon looks like getting on top, has Taylor clinching as the ref forces them apart. Good right hand Salmon, has Taylor on the move. Salmon backing Taylor up with stiff jab to the face, left hook bounces off the shoulder, RIGHT HOOK on the money has Taylor stumbling to the ropes, Salmon like a pit bull, pounces on the wounded Aussie but she’s clinching and Salmon can’t land. Taylor fighting off the ropes with that jab and there’s the bell.

Danni: Great round from Salmon, dominating from the outset by becoming the aggressor.

Kylie: She had to fight through some tough exchanges with Taylor but landed a good jab followed by that left hook to take control of the round and perhaps the fight.

Round 6

8 left and rights from Salmon, to little effect. Taylor closing the distance to not give Salmon punching room. Taylor looking great in close, blasting in body shots and popping Salmons head up with the uppercut. Both girls firing off a couple of jabs and they both back away. Salmon with claret from the nose. Uppercut Salmon, left hook to the body, return fire from Taylor, STRAIGHT JAB snaps the head back the RIGHT HOOK spins her off her feet and DOWN GOES SALMON. Taylor looking stunned with her own knockdown watches Salmon rise slowly, blood streaming from the nose. Ref lets it go and ON COMES TAYLOR, straight jab to the chin, left hook, right hook grazing the forehead, Salmon with her back to the ropes, swinging at nothing, Taylor with a CRUNCHING RIP to the Salmon ribcage and DOWN GOES SALMON! She’s down on one knee as the ref begins the count, it’s get to 9 before she bounces up and he ref lets it go!! But there’s the bell.

Danni: I don’t think Taylor could believe she knocked Salmon down there, it was a solid jab but that hook had power behind it that we haven’t seen from Rach.

Kylie: Now Salmon isn’t looking good in the corner here, corner woman really struggling to stop the bleeding from the nose and Zoe is looking like she is sitting really uncomfortable on that stool.

Danni: IT’S OVER SIS!! She isn’t coming back out, she has a broken rib from that Taylor body blow apparently. TKO6 Rachael Taylor!

Kylie: Well, there must have been something behind that punch to break the rib. Salmon can’t even get to the middle for the announcement so Rachael has her hand raised on her own.
