Apparently, Foxfire Boxing is determined to rally behind Mary Elizabeth Winstead as she faces a career-critical fight with Bazz Fight Club’s Elisabeth Rohm. Archer News has received this recording of a recent sparring session with Jewel Staite. Ms. Staite (best known for her work on the cult TV series “Firefly”) is a stalwart of the SF/Comic circuit along such fighters as Emily Rose, Erica Cerra, and Allison Scagliott. She’s also one of the most respected sparring partners around. This session takes place in the Foxfire training center with head trainer Virginia Madsen watching along with veteran lightweight Jennifer Garner. Laura Vandervoort can be seen in the background watching intently. (Its no secret that Winstead and Vandervoort have become strong rivals within the Foxfire organization).

R1: Mary crisp and aggressive, backing Jewel up and making her work hard. Staite fighting back off the apron, but obviously hardpressed.

R2: Mary pours it on, punching Jewel woozy with a volume attack that produces a knockdown via the hook at the halfway point. Staite gets checked out by Foxfire guys, insists she's good to continue - once they resume it's Mary backing Jewel to ropes and working her over.

R3: Staite shows durability, digging in and fighting shoulder to shoulder with Mary. Winstead raking hooks - really belting away with the left hand at close quarters. Stats line pretty impressive: MEW takes 7 of 9 minutes; shuts Jewel out in the second round; drops Jewel in the second round...Staite probably comes away with a ton of respect for the MEW work ethic and intensity in training.

Extended footage after the bout shows Madsen, Garner and Staite conferring with Winstead, while Laura Vandervoort turns away with a sour look on her face. Winstead looks pleased with her efforts and more confident than she has been in some recent interviews.
